Description

The invention relates to a glue unit for applying an adhesive on the back or adjacent areas of a pass by Book blocks, consisting of an adhesive Tub, in which at least one the adhesive on the Book block spine transferring, in the same direction as the book block driven applicator roller that protrudes after the proximity area to the book block with this one tear-off area of the adhesive forms.

A glue unit of the type described above is for example in "Industrial Bookbindery" by Dieter Liebau, 1997 edition of the Publishing house profession + school, Itzehoe shown schematically. This Glue unit has two applicator rollers arranged one behind the other on, the glue from a tub twice on book block spines transfer.

The selected dosage of the adhesive to be transferred is made by means of a doctor blade upstream of the application area. The Level the adhesive layer applied to the back of the book block is done by a spinner, which is in the opposite direction to the Direction of conveyance of the book block rotates and often a higher one Peripheral speed than the application roller assigned to it having. The peripheral speed of an application roller corresponds about the transport speed of the book blocks.

The adhesive picked up from the trough by an application roller is wiped down to a certain layer thickness by a doctor blade prior to transfer to the book block spine and then transferred to a moving book block spine, with a certain amount of adhesive penetration due to the set distance between the book block spine and the surface of the application roller Penetration pressure is generated on the adhesive to be transferred, which is dissolved again after the closest approach and at the same time leaves an uneven adhesive layer on the spine of the book block. The unevenness on the back of the book block is leveled out by the spinner, who also removes so-called glue threads from the adhesive. The position of the tear-off area of the adhesive depends, among other things, on the viscosity of the adhesive, the distance between the book block spine and application roller, the adhesive thickness to be applied, the running speed and the roller diameter.
In addition to the insufficient adhesive surface, this is thicker in the longitudinal center than at the edges due to the surface tension of the adhesive. As a result, the desired application thickness for optimal binding quality in the edge areas can often not be achieved. The shear stress on the adhesive caused by the spinner often leads to uncontrollable penetration at the side edges of the spine of the book block or to loss of quality.

Therefore, the invention has for its object a gluing unit in the manner described at the beginning so that the disadvantages mentioned can be eliminated by simple means can.

According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the application roller one between this and the support level of the book block spine the separation area of the supplied adhesive forming, acute-angled separating wedge is connected downstream, so that after transferring the adhesive to the spine of the book block a flowing longitudinal division of the supplied adhesive layer can arise.

The separating wedge is advantageously adjustable to change its position arranged so that it adheres to the changeable order conditions is customizable.

Preferably, that facing the conveying plane of the book block spine Wedge surface of the separating wedge with the former one in Arranged to form the conveying direction, forming an acute clearance angle, creating a clear separation between that on the book block spine applied adhesive and the separating wedge can.

For post-treatment of the surface of the back of the book block applied adhesive layer is a downstream of the separating wedge Smoothing device provided with the surface the adhesive is peeled off.

This smoothing device advantageously has one of the conveying levels the book block spine facing flat surface, which in one flat angle can be adjusted to the applied adhesive, so that the latter subtracted slightly. can be smoothed.

The device according to the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing, to which reference is made with regard to all the details not mentioned in the description, using an exemplary embodiment. In the drawing, the
only figure
a cross section through an adhesive application station.

A gluing unit 1 essentially consists of an adhesive or Glue 2 containing tub 3, in the two around perpendicular to the conveying direction F of a processing line in a perfect binder continuous book blocks 4 rotating driven, smooth Application rollers 5, 6 arranged immersed in the adhesive 2 are. A gluing unit 1 with two application rollers 5, 6 ensures higher reliability of adhesive transfer than this is possible with an application roller 6, not least because two Application rollers 5, 6 with different distances to the in a constant conveyor level 7 passing book blocks 4 adjustable are. The first applicator roller 5 becomes the transmission set a lower amount of adhesive. The order quantity is determined by the amount of adhesive on the Applicator roller 5, 6 determining squeegee 8, 9, which a scraper edge 10 directed against the application drum 5, 6 having. In the embodiment shown, the doctor blade 8, 9 around one to the axes of rotation 11, 12 of the application rollers 5, 6 parallel axes pivoted. The application rollers 5, 6 are so far immersed in the adhesive 2 as by the level is indicated, and promote the adhesive 2 in the noted direction of rotation D upwards. The stripped from the squeegee 8, 9 excess adhesive flows into the tub 3 back to the preparation of the adhesive 2 with a heater can be provided. The second applicator roller 6 is for the Stabilization of the spine provided and encourages one thicker adhesive film as the first applicator roller 5, so it is slightly more apart from the spine of the book block.

The adhesive applied too much on the spine of the book block 2 is no longer from a spinner or a doctor blade equalized - such as in "Perfect Binding Technology" by Alfred Furler, publisher "Deutscher Drucker" is disclosed - but by one of the applicator rollers 5, 6, between this and the conveying plane 7 of the book block spine a the separation area 13 of the supplied adhesive 2 forming, acute-angled Separating wedge 14. The separating wedge can be adjusted that it is in the separation area 13, where conveyor level 7 and Separate application roller 5, 6 again, one on the book block spine largely flat adhesive surface generated and the excess of the conveyed adhesive 2 to the application roller 5, 6 separates. In terms of adaptability to the binding technology and physical conditions is the wedge 14 adjustably arranged so that it is deeper or less deep, closer or less close to the conveyor level 7 can. Its angle of attack can also be selected in the separation area 13, for which purpose, for example, a pivot axis can be provided can. The preferably sword-like cross-sectional shape of the Wedge 14 has an approximately razor-sharp at the free end Edge on that separates the adhesive film into two smooth surfaces having branches. It is significant that the separating wedge 14 is inserted into the separation area 13 so that its the Conveying plane 7 of the book block back facing wedge surface 16 and the former 7 has a tip that opens in the conveying direction F. Form a clearance angle so that there is no adhesive on the separating wedge 14 2 can build.

Following the separating wedge 14 is an adhesive application arranged on the spine of the book block smoothing device 17. This can be on the separating wedge 14 or the latter on the smoothing device 17 attached, the respective supporting organ 14, 17 is connected to a machine frame. The smoothing device 17 points one at a flat angle to the one applied Adhesive layer adjustable flat surface, the distance can be changed for spine by adjusting screws. Either Wedge 14 such as smoothing device 17 can with a Heating element 15 may be provided.
