- US 5,644,870 discloses a door being formed from two rectangular compression molded skins, with each skin having inside surface and an outside surface and on its inside surface a plurality of projecting, parallel ribs along at least two of its edges, a hinge support having a plurality of grooves on its opposite sides with the grooves operable to interlock with the ribs on the skins along one side of the door when the skins are assembled with this support and an accessory support having a plurality of grooves on its opposite sides operable to interlock the ribs of the skins along the other side of the door when the skins are assembled therewith wherein no frame is required for the door when a foamed in place polyurethane core is formed between the skins.
- the door uses interlocking members at its side and top edges and a preformed bottom panel or insert.
- the sheets or skins employed to construct such doors are made by a sheet molding process wherein uncured resins, reinforced with fiber glass, are compressed between large molds, using pressure and heat, to form thin sheets or skins having a thickness from 0.05 inches to 0.120 inches. While the sheets formed by such process are strong, and can be embossed with wood graining on their outside surfaces, they remain quite flexible in the plane normal to their surfaces. For this reason, and others, to construct a door with these skins, it is often necessary that they be mounted on a rectangular stick frame by gluing them to the assembled frame and filling the resulting hollow space between the skins and the frame with a plastic foam, such as polyurethane foam which is foamed in place.

- an improved frame for supporting a large window light or pane in door frames constructed of synthetic materials and leaving an integral glazing frame for retaining the light or pane includes a first skin of a compression molded sheet material, the first skin having an aperture with a first integral edge strip oriented generally normal to the plane of the first skin and extending from and around such aperture, a second skin (and opposing skin) of a compression molded sheet material, the second skin having an aperture with a second integral edge strip oriented generally normal to the plane of the second skin and extending from and around such aperture, interlocking means formed on the edge strips operable to fixedly to join said edge strips of the two skins in a permanent overlapping relationship when glue is applied to the surfaces of the interlocking means, a glazing frame means associated with the edge strips having an integral extending flange projecting from one of the edge strips and a glazing strip operable to retain a window light between the flange and the glazing strip when said the edge strips are fixedly joined by the interlocking means,
- the upper portion 48 of the glazing strip 47 is designed to deflect slightly due to its reduced cross section (see Fig. 6) when its plug portion 51 is pushed into groove 46, forcing the angular tip 52 under lip 44 to lock the strip in place. Further its light or pane engaging face 53 is grooved to form two sealing faces 54 and 55.
- a vinyl or rubber seal strip 56 is shown associated with the pane engaging face of the strip in Fig. 6 and is employed to improve the seal against the light or pane 22 when it is retained by the glazing strip 47. If desired additional seal strips can be employed on this face, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. This arrangement allows the glazing strip to be popped out of groove 46 to replace the light or pane, if necessary.

- the stile posts 32 and the top rail member 33 they can be constructed of wood, metal and plastic extrusions. Normally the sides of these members which engage the inner surfaces of the skins have grooves 69 which allow any excess glue to flow into the grooves, forming a glue ridge in the groove that increases the shear strength between the skin and the stile posts and the top rail member.

Claims (11)
- Cadre de porte (21) pour supporter un grand vitrage ou une grande vitre de fenêtre (22) dans des portes faites de matériaux synthétiques ayant un cadre de vitrage solidaire comprenant :un premier panneau (30) fait d'un matériau en feuille moulé par compression, ledit premier panneau (30) ayant une ouverture avec une première bande de rive solidaire (34) orientée de manière générale perpendiculairement au plan de surface dudit premier panneau et s'étendant à partir et autour de son ouverture ;un second panneau (31) fait d'un matériau en feuille moulé par compression, ledit second panneau ayant une ouverture avec une seconde bande de rive solidaire (36) orientée de manière générale perpendiculairement au plan de surface dudit second panneau et s'étendant à partir et autour de son ouverture ;des moyens d'emboítement réciproque (41, 40) associés à ladite première bande de rive (34) et à ladite seconde bande de rive (36), apte à agir pour assembler de manière fixe lesdites bandes de rive (34, 36) dans une relation de chevauchement lorsque de la colle est appliquée sur les surfaces contiguës desdits moyens d'emboítement réciproque (41, 40) ;les moyens formant cadre de vitrage (60) associés auxdites première (34) et seconde bandes de rive (36) et comportant un rebord intégré (35) s'étendant à partir de l'une desdites bandes de rive (34), et une bande de retenue pouvant être fixée auxdites bandes assemblées et apte à agir pour retenir un vitrage de fenêtre entre ledit rebord et ladite bande de retenue ;une couche centrale en mousse formée in situ (66) dans ledit espace creux ;et caractérisé par des moyens formant cadre périmétrique aptes à agir pour fermer l'espace (64) entre lesdits panneaux (30, 31) autour de leur périmètre et reliés de manière fixe auxdits panneaux respectifs, pour ainsi former un espace creux (64) entre lesdits moyens formant cadre et la surface interne desdites bandes de rive assemblées (34, 36).
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, comprenant un vitrage de fenêtre.
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel la partie centrale en mousse formée in situ (66) est une mousse de polyuréthane.
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel les moyens formant cadre fermant l'espace entre les panneaux (30, 31) autour de leur périmètre consistent en un cadre rectangulaire composé de deux montants verticaux (32), d'un élément de rail horizontal supérieur (38) et d'un élément de rail horizontal inférieur.
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel les moyens formant cadre comprenant un coupe-bise au bas du cadre, qui est monté dans des rainures (46) formées dans l'élément de rail inférieur.
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel les moyens formant cadre comprennent des roulettes (75) montées sur le bas du cadre de porte.
- Cadre selon la revendication 1, dans lequel les panneaux (30, 31) sont constitués de plaques ayant des bandes de rive solidaires, orientées de manière générale perpendiculairement au plan des plaques qui sont assemblés pour former chaque panneau ayant une ouverture, lesdites bandes de rive s'étendant à partir et autour de cette ouverture.
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel au moins un montant vertical supplémentaire (32) est incorporé dans un espace adjacent aux moyens formant cadre de vitrage (60) afin d'augmenter la rigidité du cadre de porte (21).
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel l'épaisseur des panneaux (30, 31) se situe entre 0,127 cm (0,05 pouce) et 0,318 cm (0,125 pouce).
- Cadre de porte selon la revendication 1, dans lequel l'épaisseur des bandes de rive solidaires (34, 36) des panneaux (30, 31) ont une épaisseur de 12,7 cm (0,5 pouce) environ.
- Cadre de porte selon l'une des revendications 1 à 10, pour supporter un grand vitrage ou une grande vitre de fenêtre de portes-fenêtres faites de matériaux synthétiques et ayant un cadre de vitrage solidaire, comportant :le premier panneau est fait d'un matériau en feuille moulé par compression et possède un rebord (35) qui s'étend perpendiculairement à la bande de rive (34) ;et une bande de vitrage (47) pouvant être fixée à ladite bande de rive (34) et apte à agir pour maintenir un vitrage de fenêtre dans le cadre en le pressant contre ledit rebord (35) de ladite première bande de rive solidaire (34).
