Definitions

  • the invention relates to a sheet of paper, in particular an absorbent paper sheet of creped cellulose wadding, comprising an embossing pattern.
  • the invention particularly relates to a sheet of paper, consisting in particular of at least one fold of absorbent paper made of creped cellulose wadding, intended for the field of wiping in domestic, household or industrial use, that is to say say likely to be used as paper towels, cloth etc.
  • embossing gives bouffant to the sheet and it induces an improvement in the absorption of liquids, touch and softness. It has been sought to further increase the absorption capacity by creating multilayer sheets obtained by combining at least two layers, also called folds, each consisting of at least one of said embossed sheets.
  • the former is known in the field as "nested" or interlocking. It consists first of embossing each of the plies separately so as to form on the surface protrusions generally substantially frustoconical or truncated pyramid. Then glue is deposited on the top of the protuberances of one of the folds, and the folds are arranged so that the faces having the protuberances come opposite, the protuberances of the one between the protuberances of the other . The folds are finally assembled so that the protuberances having been glued together fit between the protuberances of the other fold.
  • the two plies are linked by glue points between the tops of the protuberances of a fold and unembossed areas between the protuberances of the other fold.
  • a structure is produced whose voids thus formed are suitable for ensuring the sheet an improved absorption.
  • the outer faces have a smooth and soft feel due to the recessed areas formed by the back of the protuberances. This technique is illustrated by the patent US Patent 3,867,225 .
  • the second method of assembly is known in the field under the designation points / tips. It differs from the previous one by the relative disposition of the two folds. These, after they have been embossed separately, are brought one on the other so as to coincide the tops of the protuberances. The folds are linked together by the tops of the protuberances, tips against points. This technique is illustrated by the patent US Patent 3,414,459 .
  • the protuberances obtained during the embossing are most often made so as to be distributed in a pattern in which the protuberances are generally aligned. in one or more directions in a uniform manner.
  • a pattern makes it possible to obtain a sheet which is homogeneous as regards its mechanical characteristics but makes it possible to obtain only a slight aesthetic impact.
  • the Applicant has created, for the purpose in particular to improve the appearance of the product, patterns in which the protuberances are arranged at least in part in curves, portions of curves or straight lines - or combinations of such portions of curves and / or straight lines. In particular some of said portions are, at least partially, parallel to each other. In particular, the protuberances form closed curves comprising circles or possibly concentric portions of circles.
  • the object of the invention is to propose an improvement to such a design, which is particularly applicable when it is desired to obtain a stronger visual effect.
  • the invention proposes a sheet composed of at least one ply of creped cellulose wadding, of grammage between 12 and 30 g / m 2 , of the type comprising an embossing pattern consisting of a first series of protuberances in the general shape of pins protruding on one side of the fold and which form alignments, characterized in that the fold comprises a second series of protuberances, associated with the first series, each of which is in the general shape of a wall, which are in protrusion on said face of the fold, whose height in relief is less than the height of the protuberances of the first series and each of which connects two adjacent protuberances along said alignments of the first series so as to accentuate the visual perception of the pattern.
  • the invention also proposes an engraved cylinder for embossing a sheet according to the invention comprising a first series of generally frustoconical pins forming alignments, characterized in that it comprises a second series of protuberances whose height of vertices is smaller than that of the pins of the first series and which are in the form of a wall connecting two successive pins of the first series, the protuberances of the second series having in particular a thickness less than that of the pins of the first series.
  • the invention finally proposes a method of embossing a sheet by means of a cylinder according to the invention, characterized in that it consists in embossing the sheets until they come to bear on the top of said protuberances shaped wall.
  • figure 1 an embodiment of a sheet of embossed paper, especially a paper sheet consisting of one or more folds of absorbent paper, creped cellulose wadding, for all types of hygiene products or household.
  • the cellulose wadding of grammage between 12 and 30 g / m 2 , is preferably of the type obtained by conventional wet pressing, known as CWP.
  • the sheet of paper shown in figure 1 is an outer fold of a sheet of paper which is for example intended to be incorporated in a roll of paper towels.
  • the bottom 12 of the sheet 10 is here, for example, unembossed and a pattern of elements, repeated and intercalated quincunxes 14 and 16 is apparent and detached from the bottom 12 of the sheet.
  • the pattern elements 14 and 16 consist of series of protuberances which are aligned according to figures, in particular in closed loops, for example in circles or squares with rounded sides. Several closed loops are arranged concentrically as can be seen at figure 1 .
  • the protuberances constituting the pattern elements are obtained by embossing the sheet 10 by means of a cylinder 18, schematically illustrated in FIGS. Figures 2 and 3 on the convex cylindrical external surface 20 of which protuberances similar to those desired on the embossed paper sheet are raised.
  • each figure in particular in closed loop, participating in the realization of the pattern which detaches visually from the bottom of the sheet, consists of a first series of protuberances 22 each of which is in the general shape of a frustoconical pin projecting, that is to say that the protuberances or pins of this first series are projecting above the bottom 12 of the sheet 10.
  • the embossing roll 18 comprises on its convex cylindrical face 20 a first homologous series of embossed frustoconical pins 23.
  • the sheet comprises, for each figure, a second associated series of protuberances 24 each of which is in the general shape of a wall.
  • Each wall-shaped protrusion 24 of the second series is raised in relief projecting above the bottom 12 of the sheet 10 in the same manner as the protuberances 22 of the first series.
  • the convex outer cylindrical surface 20 of the embossing roll 18 comprises a second associated series of raised protuberances 25 in the form of a wall homologous to those which it is desired to obtain.
  • Two consecutive protuberances 22 of frustoconical shape are interconnected by a wall 24.
  • the raised height H1 of the protuberances 22 is greater than the height H2 of the walls 24.
  • the height of the pins 23 is equal to 1.3 millimeters while the height of the walls 25 is equal to 0.7 millimeters.
  • the height of the walls on the embossing cylinder is at most equal to the height of the pins of the first series, that is to say 1.3 millimeters in the present example.
  • the difference in height is chosen so that the rubber can come into contact with the upper surface of the wall at the time of embossing and thus conform the sheet to the wall at less partially.
  • the pins are generally of frustoconical shape circular section, oval, polygonal or other, and preferably steep slope, between 60 and 70 °.
  • the thickness of the walls is lower than that of the spikes, preferably their slope is the same as that of the latter.
  • the thickness or transverse width of the wall is less than the width of the pins, that is to say less than the diameter of the pins at the same height or altitude.
  • the thickness of the walls is thus 10 to 50% lower than that of the pins, in particular to limit the additional embossing pressure resulting from the presence of low walls.
  • the invention is not limited to the case of a single-ply sheet.
  • the protuberances 22 and 24 preferably extend in projection on the internal face of each of the two folds of the multilayer sheet, according to a known design, so as to increase the thickness, as well as to enable the hooking of the two folds by the free ends of the pins 22, the two folds being then assembled for example according to the design called "nested" as mentioned above.
  • the invention is particularly remarkable in the case of its application to a towel-type absorbent paper consisting of two embossed folds and associated "nested” in particular.
  • the rows of protuberances and walls were thus arranged on two distinct plies, which were nested in the "nested” position.
  • that according to the invention has absorption and strength characteristics which are not reduced, despite the additional embossing.
  • the "visibility" of the motif is increased.
  • the design according to the invention also makes it possible to have a greater number of pins in the same alignment and it advantageously makes it possible to produce many varieties of patterns.
  • Tests were performed to verify that the performance of a product made in accordance with the invention was not impaired. Indeed, any additional embossing a priori induces a reduction for example of the resistance or may cause a drop in the absorption capacity.
  • a first product A is a two-ply paper associated in "nested" of the prior art. This is a product conforming to the paper towel marketed by the Applicant in France under the trademark "OKAY”.
  • the pattern consists of concentric circles and staggered as shown in the figures but without the walls of the invention.
  • the second product B was made with two plies of the same cellulose wadding as previously but embossed according to the invention with the pattern shown in the figures.
  • the third product C was also made with two plies but with an embossing consisting of protuberances with continuous top surface in the form of a circle.
  • the pattern is thus made up of continuous circles.
  • the invention makes it possible to produce products having an improved definition of the decorative pattern without significant loss of its characteristic properties.
  • the invention also makes it possible, with respect to the prior solution without a wall, to increase the number of pins on the engraved cylinder while maintaining the distance between the two successive pins, which improves the visibility of the pattern.
