- the invention further relates to a method for producing a multi-layer image in such a multi-layer body.
- Multi-layer body of the type mentioned are from the US 4,523,777 known.
- an identification card is described as a multi-layer body, which has superimposed color layers of different colors, which are selectively removed by means of laser irradiation or changed in color.
- EP 0 327 508 A1 describes a method of laser marking organic material comprising at least one radiation-sensitive, bleachable additive and at least one less radiation-sensitive, non-discolourable compound.
- plastic bodies that consist of laser-sensitive material.
- various embodiments of plastic bodies are known and designed as a solid body or coating, each containing a mixture of different pigments.
- laser treatment a color marking on the plastic body or in the coating.
- WO 98/19868 describes a method that works with special yellow, magenta and cyan pigments, which are activated in a first step by UV light and bleached only in a subsequent second step.
- WO 94/12352 It is also known, on a plastic body containing a pigment mixture and may be formed as a solid body and as a coating, by laser treatment with different Wavelength to produce colorful color markings. The color formation takes place in that the pigments change their color by color change during the laser treatment.
- a method is known in which a laser-sensitive dye A and a laser-insensitive dye B are contained in two separate superimposed layers or alternatively in a common layer, and the dye A is bleached by laser treatment. With the laser treatment, a color mark is thus obtained which, however, only involves a color change of the dye A, so that only the maximum two-color image is obtained.
- a laser marking process for use in surface pigment coating wherein pigments of the pigment coating at different temperatures change their internal molecular structure and provide different colors. With the laser irradiation, the specific surface temperatures are locally achieved, whereby colored laser markings are obtained.
- the GB 2 240 948 A also describes laser marking of identity cards. Laser marking is done here by removing different layers of paint. The resulting laser marking appears as a colored mark.
- the DE 41 31 964 A1 describes laser inscriptions of a multilayer film with metal layer and hologram structure. The labeling is done by partially destroying the hologram-bearing metal layer.

- a change of material or color or a removal of partial regions in the layer structure of the film takes place.
- EP 0 219 011 B1 describes a special procedure for laser marking ID cards.
- black markings are introduced in different transparent layers of the card by means of the laser.
- paralaxe images are obtained in this way.
- the invention has for its object to provide a multi-layer body, which ensures particularly high security against counterfeiting by laser treatment and enables special laser-induced markings.
- the object of the invention is also to provide a method for producing novel complex laser-induced markings.
- the invention solves the problem with the multi-layer body according to claim 1 and the method for producing a laser-induced multi-layer image in such a multi-layer body according to the method claim 9.
- the multi-layer body has a first laser-sensitive layer and a second laser-sensitive layer in which different formed laser-induced image components are created, the possibility is created to produce a complex composite laser-induced multi-layer image.
- the laser-sensitive layer with the laser-sensitive colorant it is possible to produce a colorful laser-induced image component which can be configured as a multicolor image or full color image when using a corresponding laser-sensitive colorant mixture of two or three bleachable colorant components.
- Another laser-sensitive material can be used in the other laser-sensitive layer, ie a different colorant mixture or else a material doped with carbon or carbon black, in which a different color marking, preferably multicolored color image or a black marking, preferably a gray-scale image, can be produced during the laser treatment.
- the different laser-sensitive layers can be arranged more or less preferably one above the other only overlapping one another in overlapping regions and more or less possibly only transparent in regions.
- specific different image components can be generated laser-induced, which can co-operate to form an arbitrarily complex multi-layer image.
- Multi-layer images with particularly interesting optical effects become possible if, in addition to the several laser-sensitive layers in the layer structure, diffraction and / or hologram structures are also included which, for example at different viewing angles, result in different optical effects in connection with the different laser-induced image components arranged in the different layers ,
- the laser-sensitive layers can be formed so that they are sensitive only under certain laser conditions, eg only at a specific laser wavelength or angle of incidence.
- a special background layer is arranged as an intermediate layer between the laser-sensitive layers, which acts in the manner of a barrier layer for certain laser irradiation, eg depending on the laser wavelength, the angle of incidence, etc.
- this background layer acting as a barrier layer can also be formed only in regions, ie only under a subregion of the laser-sensitive layer arranged above, preferably only in a region which lies below the laser-induced marking.
- the hot stamping foil shown in FIG. 1 is a multilayer body having two laser-sensitive layers 4, which are formed on both sides of a reflection layer 5r. By laser treatment of this multilayer body can different laser-induced markings in the laser-sensitive layers are introduced, so that a composite laser-induced multi-layer image is generated.
- the laminated body shown in FIG. 4 also has two laser-sensitive layers, namely the layer 4, which is arranged on the underside of the upper overlay film 30 in a hot stamping film applied there, and the layer 32, which is formed as a separate doped overlay film.
- the laser-sensitive layers 4 formed on both sides of the reflection layer 5r may be identical, ie the reflection layer is then in this laser-sensitive overall layer arranged. However, the laser-sensitive layers can also be designed differently. In adjacent areas of the laser-sensitive layer 4 and of the reflection layer 5r, a diffraction structure 5b is formed. Alternatively, the structure 5b may also be formed as a hologram structure. Increased security against forgery results in the exemplary embodiment in that two laser-sensitive layers adjoin the diffraction or hologram structure, which may be identical or different.
- the lacquer layer 5, which is optional, is in this case formed as a transparent layer or as a light backup layer.
- the lacquer layer 5 and the adhesive layer 6 may be dispensed with and the second laser-sensitive layer 4 shown in FIG. 1 below the reflection layer 5r may be formed as a laser-sensitive adhesive layer.
- Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of a laminating film with an order of layers corresponding to the structure of the hot stamping foil. It comprises a so-called overlay sheet 30, a laser-sensitive layer 40, a background layer-forming intermediate layer 50, which is optional, and an adhesive layer 60, which is also optional.
- the laser-sensitive layer 40 is arranged in a similar manner as the laser-sensitive layer 4 on both sides of the reflective layer 50r, wherein it is provided in a similar manner as in Fig. 1 that the two laser-sensitive layers are formed differently or the same. 1, a diffraction and / or hologram structure 50b is also provided in the laminating film in FIG. 2, and likewise in the region of the two laser-sensitive layers 40 and the intermediate reflection layer 50r.
- laser-induced image components which are present in different layers are respectively produced in the superimposed laser-sensitive layers.
- the laser treatment is preferably carried out after the film in question has been applied to the substrate, ie by irradiating the film applied to the substrate from the outside.
- the film is laser-treated before application. In this case, then the laser irradiation can be done from different sides of the film.
- Different laser-induced image components in the superimposed laser-sensitive layers are obtained by virtue of the fact that the laser-sensitive layers have different laser-sensitive material and thus the laser-induced at different material-specific laser conditions Components in the different laser-sensitive layers are generated.
- the upper laser-sensitive layer can be treated separately to produce there a specific laser-induced image component without the radiation enters the lower laser-sensitive layer. In this way, it is thus also possible to treat the superposed laser-sensitive layers separately even if they are formed of the same laser-sensitive material.
- two laser-sensitive layers 4, 4a are likewise provided. However, these are separated by a background layer 5 arranged therebetween.
- the background layer is a highly reflective layer for the laser radiation used in the laser treatment.
- the layer is also non-transmissive and absorbing with respect to the non-reflected portion of the laser radiation, so that in the laser treatment to produce the laser-induced mark in the upper laser-sensitive layer 4 no laser radiation enters the underlying laser-sensitive layer 4a.
- the background layer 5 is arranged below the laser-sensitive layer 4 exclusively in the region in which a laser-induced image component is to be produced in the laser-sensitive layer 4.
- the background layer 5 is not formed, ie in this area is a for the laser radiation permeable material or preferably the laser-sensitive material of the lower laser-sensitive layer 4a is arranged. In these areas, in which the background layer is thus not formed, the laser-induced image component can be generated in the lower laser-sensitive layer 4a by laser irradiation.
- the two laser-sensitive layers 4, 4a are preferably formed from different laser-sensitive material, for which different material-specific laser treatment conditions apply. In this way it is also possible that during the generation of the laser-induced marking in the lower laser-sensitive layer 4a, a laser-induced change in the upper laser-sensitive layer 4 does not take place simultaneously.
- a further background layer 5a is arranged on the underside of the lower laser-sensitive layer 4a. This background layer 5a prevents laser radiation from reaching the substrate during the laser treatment.
- the embodiment in FIG. 4 is a body laminated from various overlay foils and inlets.
- the upper overlay film has on its underside a layer structure consisting of a lacquer layer 5c, a reflection layer 5r, a laser-sensitive layer 4, a background layer 5 and an adhesive layer 6.
- the reflection layer 5r and the laser-sensitive layer 4 is a diffraction and / or hologram structure 5b formed.
- These layers applied to the underside of the overlay film 30 are layers of a hot stamping foil which are there on the underside of the overlay foil is applied.
- the overlay film 32 arranged under the overlay film 30 is designed as a laser-sensitive film. It therefore forms a second laser-sensitive layer.
- the laser-sensitive material is formed as carbon and / or carbon black-doped material. It is material that carbonizes when exposed to laser, so that in this layer formed by the overlay film 32, a laser-induced image component by blackening.
- the laser conditions eg variation of the laser power and / or laser wavelength, a grayscale image can be generated.
- an inlet 90 and below another inlet 90 is arranged under the doped overlay film 32.
- These inlets can preferably be made of paper material, but also of plastic material, preferably as inlet foils.
- an overlay film 30 and on this another overlay film 30 is applied on the underside of the lower inlet 90.
- the laser treatment for producing the different laser-induced image constituents in the laser-sensitive layers 4 and 32 takes place in exemplary embodiments in a corresponding manner as in FIGS. 1 to 3.
- the laser-sensitive material is a three-component mixture having a cyan pigment component, a magenta pigment component and a yellow pigment component.
- a blue or green or red color mark is produced by irradiating that spot with a particular laser wavelength that bleaches a particular pigment component.
- the yellow pigment component may be bleached.
- blue laser light is used. Bleaching requires a certain minimum intensity. Furthermore, a certain pulse duration must not be exceeded.
- the magenta pigment component may be bleached. For this purpose, green laser light is used.
- red laser light is used.
- this point is laser-treated in a second step, with a laser wavelength with which one of the not yet bleached at this point pigment components is bleached.
- a blue color mark has been formed in the first step, at this point the cyan pigment component and the magenta pigment component are unbleached.
- the magenta pigment component must be bleached in this second step. This is done with green laser light. This results in a cyan mark at this point.
- the blue mark produced in the first step must be treated with red laser light.
- the cyan pigment is bleached at this point, so that the magenta pigment remains unbleached at this point. This results in the magenta marking at this point.
- a green color marking produced in the first step which is formed from unbleached cyan pigment and yellow pigment remaining there, can produce a cyan-colored marking or a yellow-colored marking by treatment with blue laser light or red laser light.
- a red color marking produced in the first step can be converted into a yellow or magenta marking in the second step by laser treatment in the second step with green laser light or blue laser light.
- this spot must be treated with a laser beam whose wavelength is adjusted to bleach the unbleached pigment component remaining at that point after the second step, i. the yellow color mark must be bleached with blue laser light, the magenta mark with green light, and the cyan mark with red laser light.
- Laser treatment can also be used to produce color markers or a full-color image in the colorant or the colorants in the laser-sensitive layer by color change.
- the laser treatment can be carried out in a corresponding manner with successive process steps.
- a colorant i. Coloring substances are pigments in question. These are usually insoluble and are usually inorganic substances.
- the color change takes place in each case under specific laser conditions, which are then used in the laser treatment in the individual steps.
- the bleaching and color conversion process described can also be used if the laser-sensitive material consists of only one or two colorant components. It is also possible to use other colorant components and also other laser conditions, in particular other laser wavelength ranges, in the laser treatment.
- the laser treatment is usually carried out on the applied film on the substrate. Alternatively, however, it can also be carried out before the film is applied, by irradiating the film alone, specifically if the protective layer 3 or any other layer has, for example, a background layer 5 as a layer which is not or only partially transparent to laser radiation or one for laser radiation in the certain wavelength range is formed non-transparent layer or an additional UV-absorbing protective layer is provided.
- the laser treatment is then carried out, preferably before the application of the film by the laser beam on the back of the film, ie on the lower Background layer 5 or the adhesive layer 6 is directed and thus the laser-sensitive layer 4 is thus treated from the other side to generate the color marks in the same way.
- the background layer 5 and the adhesive layer 6 are transparent or at least partially transparent for the laser radiation in question in these applications.
- a multilayer data carrier which contains at least two different laser-sensitive layers, wherein a laser-sensitive layer 1 is preferably laser-personalized in a multicolor manner and a further laser-sensitive layer 2 is preferably monochromatic laser-personalizable.
- the laser-sensitive materials can be set in such a way that a marking can be achieved by means of laser radiation of a defined wavelength and intensity in both materials.
- the laser-sensitive layers preferably lie over one another over part of the area.
- This optical barrier layer 3 is a reflective layer in a preferred embodiment, a diffusely reflecting layer. It preferably contains a sufficient proportion of white pigment and thus prevents penetration of the laser light into the underlying layers. This is the prerequisite for the arrangement according to the invention of the different laser-personalisable layers.
- the multi-color laserpersonalisierbare layer 1 can be above the monochrome laserpersonalisierbaren layer 2, without at the color laser personalization an unintentional carbonation in the underlying monochrome laserpersonalisierbaren layer 2 takes place.
- the optical barrier layer can be incorporated in various ways as an additional layer.
- the optical barrier layer is applied to one of the cover layers in decorative printing.
- FIG. 1 shows a preferred construction of a data carrier.
- the optical barrier layer can also be arranged above the laser-sensitive layers and thus cause partial coverage of the laser-sensitive layers.
- this optical barrier layer is then carried out as decorative printing, preferably in the form of line patterns such as guilloche.
- the image information of the decor print is then in the laserpersonalisierbaren layers after the laser personalization transmitted here that the laser-personalized image information is interrupted by the image information of the optical barrier layer.
- color laser personalization and laser personalization in grayscale in a data carrier takes place in the form that the different laserpersonalisierbaren layers are only partially arranged on top of each other. This results in different possibilities of integrated color laser personalization.
- Fig. 6 shows the possibilities of laser marking on a preferred construction of a data carrier.
- Fig. 7 shows how integrating picture elements can be achieved by the combination of laser personalization in color with the classical gray scale laser.
- the absorption of the laser-personalisable layers is adjusted for this purpose so that the laser power required for bleaching is sufficient to carbonize in the monochrome laser-personalisable layer additionally used in the document.
- the monochrome laser-personalisable layer 2 lies underneath the multicolor laser-personalisable layer 1 and if it is covered by the optical barrier layer 3 only over part of the surface, this structure allows picture elements, such as lines or alphanumeric characters, which are lasered beyond the boundary of the optical barrier layer 3, cause a carbonation of the background.
- continuous picture elements can be generated with a change in the type of marking within the element. If the boundary of the optical barrier layer 3 coincides with the boundary of the multi-colored laser-personalisable layer 1, a change from colorful to achromatic arises. This continuous image information has an integrating effect.
- integrating picture elements are possible, which are achieved by combining laser personalization in color with other graphic elements.
- the transparency of the multicolor laser-personalisable layer increases with increasing bleaching.
- layout elements such as guilloches
- layout elements such as guilloches
- picture elements such as printed lines, which are only partially covered by the multicolor laser-personalisable layer 1, appear as integrating elements after the color laser personalization. Integrating elements such as these, which extend beyond the edge of a personalized feature, greatly complicate the corruption of the volume.
- the additional layer allows a specific adjustment of the brightness of the background, regardless of the carrier material used.
- the carrier material used e.g., glass, glass, or the like.
- the subject matter of the invention is a multilayer data carrier which contains at least two different laser-sensitive layers, wherein a laser-sensitive layer can be laser-personalized in multiple colors and a further laser-sensitive layer can be monochromaticly laser-personalized. These laser-sensitive layers lie over one another over part of the surface, and preferably the multi-colored laser-personalisable layer lies above the monochrome laser-personalisable layer.
- the laser-sensitive layers may be designed such that in a laser marking step with the same wavelength and energy Laser radiation in both the multicolor laserpersonalisierbaren and in the monochrome laserpersonalisierbaren layer a respective mark can be achieved.
- a layer which is not permeable to the laser radiation is at least partially arranged between these laser-sensitive layers.
- the non-transmissive to the laser radiation layer is a reflective layer, which may be a diffusely reflecting layer in a preferred embodiment and contains a sufficient proportion of an additive that reflects or scatters the laser light.
- the laser personalization can take place in an upper laser-personalisable layer, preferably in a multicolor laser-personalisable layer, without a laser-personalisable layer lying beneath this layer being changed by the laser radiation, in that the laser personalization takes place where the laser-sensitive layers are penetrated by a layer which is not transparent to the laser radiation are optically separated from each other.
- the laser personalization can be carried out with a laser beam both in an upper laserpersonalisierbaren layer, preferably in a multicolored laserpersonalisierbaren layer, as well as in a lying below this layer laserpersonalisierbaren layer by the laser personalization takes place where the laser-sensitive layers not by a non-transmissive to the laser radiation Layer are optically separated from each other.
- Laser personalization can be carried out with a laser beam both in an upper laser-personalisable layer, preferably in a multicolor laser-personalisable layer, and in a laser-personalisable layer located below this layer, by laser personalization in such a way that graphic image elements are projected over the partial surfaces of the respective laser-personalisable layer Layer, preferably the multi-colored laserpersonalisierbaren layer, are arranged out, so that within the picture element a change from multi-colored to monochrome representation is achieved.
- the laser personalization can be performed with a laser beam in a laser personalisierbaren layer by the laser personalization takes place in such a way that graphical image elements on the faces of the above the laserpersonalisierbaren layer arranged optical barrier layer, are arranged out, so that within the laserpersonalisierbaren layer interrupting the so generated graphic image elements is achieved.
- interrupting elements in the sense of an optical barrier layer printed elements such as, for example, guilloches can preferably be arranged above the laser-personalisable layer.
- the laser personalization can be performed with a laser beam in a multicolor laser personalisable layer so that design elements preferably appear printed elements such as guilloches printed on layers beneath the multicolor laser personalisable layer, for example on the substrate, after the color laser in color image, by increasing the transparency of the multicolor laser-personalisable layer by the process of laser marking.
- An essential advantage of the invention is that the known laser personalization in gray scale is combined with the new method of color laser personalization.
- the security of documents can be significantly increased by the combination in the manner described.
