Definitions
- the present invention relates to a munition projectile for a firearm, in particular a handgun, the projectile having a tip and a base.
- the projectiles known from the prior art have various disadvantages. They are mostly lead-based, which has the effect of generating significant pollution in the shooting ranges at the time of training and competitions. In addition, when used in the field, they have a kinetic energy that is dissipated only very slowly. Therefore, they are able, during use on public roads, to cross two people one behind the other, which makes them particularly dangerous. As a result, they are incompatible for use by police forces.
- the publication FR-A-2,527,764 describes an exercise shell used for firing training and artillery adjustment.
- This exercise shell is intended in particular to simulate, over short distances, real shots of longer ranges in order to identify the causes of imprecisions of the shooting and to proceed to the settings of the weapon.
- the accuracy of short-range shelling is impaired.
- the shell has an inner recess, an end provided with a flat and a recess for modifying the center of gravity of the shell.
- the hollow is planned asymmetric so that the shell rotated by the stripe of the barrel deviates slightly from its trajectory. This shell does not guarantee the accuracy of trajectory and is not suitable for handguns. This solution is therefore not satisfactory.
- the publication EP-A-0 015 574 describes a hunting projectile comprising helical grooves providing resistance to the rotation of the projectile during its trajectory.
- the helical grooves slow its rotation on its trajectory, making it unstable and causing its rocking towards the ground.
- the projectile thus stops its race prematurely. Its maximum range is reduced.
- Helical grooves that provide a cleaner impact port do not have an immediate braking effect. This solution is therefore not satisfactory.
- the publication US-B-6,363,856 describes a handgun ammunition whose end has a flat part.
- the projectile has a density lower than that of the commonly used projectiles causing, when fired, a rapid decrease in the speed of the projectile to reduce its dangerous range.
- This ammunition also includes a jacket which, on impact, separates from the projectile, thus conferring on it a surplus of power simultaneously promoting its penetration into the target and its fragmentation so that the projectile does not reach other non-targeted targets. .
- the lightening of this projectile is obtained by the use of very light resins which degrade considerably its aerodynamics and reduce the precision of its trajectory. This solution is therefore not satisfactory.
- the publication FR-A-2,820,495 discloses a small-range munition projectile comprising a hollow body extended by a rounded warhead provided with a plurality of hollow recesses delimited by two planes forming a dihedron whose central edge is parallel to the axis of the ogive. These fingerprints Hollow are intended to slow down the rotation printed on the projectile by the scratches of the barrel of the weapon.
- the projectiles are thus, as for the publication EP-A-0 015 574 , braked by destabilization. These projectiles leave their trajectory midway thus reducing their range. Braking is not immediate. This solution is therefore not satisfactory.
- the publication FR-A-0 852 603 describes a projectile having recesses of elongate shape.
- the object of the present invention is to overcome these disadvantages by proposing a projectile for handgun, having a precise and reliable trajectory, a limited penetration in a soft medium, and which, according to the embodiment, is likely to cross or to to be stopped by a bulletproof vest.
- a projectile as described in the preamble characterized in that the tip has a substantially conical shape and comprises at least two recesses arranged substantially symmetrically, these recesses having a curvilinear profile from one edge to the other.
- the recesses preferably have a rounded base to allow the ammunition provided with this projectile to be used without attachment in an automatic weapon.
- the recesses can be formed by two curvilinear planes whose intersection is delimited by a radial edge.
- the tip comprises a central flat whose diameter is advantageously substantially between 10 and 50% of the diameter of the projectile at the base of the tip and preferably between one quarter and one third of the diameter of the projectile.
- the tip and the base comprise a recess.
- the recess is arranged to receive a sealing means.
- the projectile is made of a soft metal and in particular, advantageously copper or one of its alloys.
- the sealing means is made of hard metal to absorb the stresses to which the projectile is subjected, for example steel.
- the recess comprises an at least partially threaded central zone and said closure means is a screw partially engaged in this central zone.
- the projectile is formed of a brass piece.
- the projectile according to the invention illustrated by Figures 1 to 3 is intended primarily for public security services.
- a bulletproof vest including a bulletproof vest consisting of twenty four plies of a synthetic material in sheets such as for example that marketed under the trademark KEVLAR TM or any equivalent material having similar characteristics.
- the projectile 10 has an approximately conical tip 11 and a cylindrical base 12.
- the conical tip 11 has an apex angle of between 30 and 45 degrees and preferably approximately 38 degrees. It is provided with a central flat 13 more or less important, of substantially circular shape, whose diameter is between 10 and 50% of the diameter of the projectile at the base of the tip 11 or the base 12.
- the flat 13 has a diameter substantially between one quarter and one third of the diameter of the projectile 10.
- the tip 11 On its lateral face, the tip 11 has at least two recesses 14, disposed substantially symmetrically to each other with respect to axial planes, and obtained by stamping, milling or any other suitable machining method.
- the embodiment described and shown shows (see figure 3 ) that the substantially frustoconical tip 11 has five recesses 14, regularly spaced along axes 17 angularly arranged at seventy-two degrees each of the axes 17 neighbors.
- the number of recesses 14 and their angular position may vary according to the embodiments and depends in particular on the caliber of the projectile 10.
- Each recess 14 has a rounded base to allow a proper supply without attachment of the cartridge containing the projectile 10 in an automatic weapon.
- the recesses 14 have a curvilinear profile from one edge to another. The absence of axial edge prevents the rotation of the projectile 10 is disturbed from the exit of the barrel of the weapon.
- the projectile 10 is hollow and comprises a recess 15 which extends axially through the cylindrical base 12 and extends into the tip 11.
- This recess 15 comprises a tip-shaped frontal zone 15a extended by a central zone 15b cylindrical opening into an intermediate zone 15c conically extended by a cylindrical rear zone 15d whose section is greater than that of the central zone 15b.
- the projectile 10 is preferably made of a relatively soft metal such as copper or one of its alloys.
- the projectile 10 described which was used for the tests has a diameter of 8.97 mm in 9 mm parabellum and weighs 5.6 grams.
- the initial velocity in a GLOCK 19 pistol having a 10 cm gun is 400 m / s, a kinetic energy of about 450 joules.
- the particular profile of the frustoconical tip 11 which is the least aerodynamic as well as the presence of the central flat 13 and the recesses 14 have the effect of ensuring a significant braking of the projectile 10 on its trajectory in the air and to reduce its penetration in a soft medium without altering the precision of its trajectory.
- the average penetration of the projectile 10 in the reference medium namely 10% gelatin, is 45 centimeters. This corresponds to a decrease of about 40% compared to what is achieved with an ordinary bulletproof ammunition.
- the projectile 10 according to the invention is braked because of its poor index of penetration into the air, while keeping a well controlled trajectory. It results from this braking a decrease in the penetration in soft medium, this penetration is even lower than the firing distance is greater.
- the maximum range is of the order of 1200 meters while that of known projectiles is of the order of 1800 meters.
- a sealing means 16 for example a steel screw, in particular a screw of the PARKER TM conical head type can be engaged in the rear zone 15d cylindrical and the central zone 15b of the recess 15.
- This screw can be replaced by any other sealing means such as a hard metal stud driven in the rear zone 15d of the recess 15.
- the means of shutter 16 is a screw, the central zone is at least partially threaded so that the screw can be fixed by screwing.
- the intermediate zone 15c and the rear zone 15d are arranged to receive the head of this screw.
- the diameter of the through hole is about two millimeters.
- the rubber curtains commonly used as protection in the shooting ranges can be maintained with this projectile 10, so that the same ammunition can be used both outside by the police and in the shooting ranges for training. Ammunition is non-polluting since it does not contain lead.
- the fact that the projectile 10 is hollow ensures that it does not pierce a 24-ply bulletproof vest of KEVLAR TM or its equivalent.
- the recess 15 has a diameter of about three millimeters in its central zone 15b and extends into the tip 11 to allow the deformation of the latter at the moment of impact.
- the tip 11 of the projectile 10 also deforms on impact to a vehicle windshield. Nevertheless, the crossing of this screen by the projectile 10 is without significant loss of mass and the closure means 16 remains in place.
- the projectile 20 has an approximately conical tip 21 and a substantially cylindrical base 22. Unlike the tip 11 of the projectile 10, the tip 21 is not provided with a central flat surface 13. On its lateral face, the tip 21, substantially conical has at least two recesses 24, arranged symmetrically with respect to each other. axial planes, and obtained by stamping, milling, or any other suitable machining process.
- the embodiment described and shown shows (see figure 6 ) that the substantially conical tip 21 has five recesses 24, regularly spaced along axes 25 angularly arranged at seventy-two degrees each of the neighboring axes. The number of recesses 24 their angular position may vary according to the embodiments and depends in particular on the caliber of the projectile 20.
- Each recess 24 has a rounded base to allow a proper supply without attachment of the cartridge containing the projectile 20 in an automatic weapon.
- the recesses 24 have a curvilinear profile from one edge to another. The absence of axial edge prevents the rotation of the projectile 20 is affected at the exit of the barrel of the weapon.
- the projectile 20 also differs from the projectile 10 in that it does not comprise a central recess 15. It is solid and preferably made of brass or a similar alloy with respect to the physical characteristics with the exception of one alloy containing lead. Its manufacture can be made by cold stamping or hot stamping and the recesses 24 can be made by any appropriate machining. The tests were carried out with a projectile 8.97 mm in diameter of 9 parabellum diameter which weighs 5.6 grams and has an initial speed in the GLOCK 19 pistol having a ten centimeter barrel, is 400m / s is an energy of about 450 joules.
- this projectile 20 on its trajectory is substantially the same as that of the projectile 10 except that its braking is less because of the absence of central flattened on the tip 21.
- its perforation capacity is substantially higher since the tests revealed that it crosses at least forty-eight folds of KEVLAR TM or its equivalent.
- Both projectiles 10 and 20 have different performance with respect to their ability to punch bulletproof vests.
- the projectile 10 is arranged to be stopped by a bulletproof vest and the projectile 20 is arranged to cross it.
- the recesses are even in number and arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis of the projectile.
- the recesses are formed by two curvilinear planes defining between them a radial edge. This radial edge being in the direction of rotation of the projectile, it does not affect the speed of rotation of the projectile or the accuracy of its trajectory.
