  • a pinion 10 with six teeth 12 On the barrel 4 of the hour wheel 2 and in contact with this wheel is fixed a pinion 10 with six teeth 12, which meshes with a drive wheel 16.
  • This drive wheel which pivots on a fixed shaft 14 of the movement and which has twelve teeth 18, in order to complete one revolution in 24 hours, is responsible on its own for driving both a disc for the days of week 20 secured to a day star 22 and a date crown 24, a manner which will be explained in detail later.
  • a partially shown plate 26 which has an upper rim 28 intended to serve as a support for a dial 30 provided with a window 32.
  • This plate 26 which makes it possible to axially positioning the dial 30 is also used to angularly position it by means not shown, so that its window 32 is located at 3 o'clock to allow the user of the watch containing the movement to correctly read the day of the week and the date of this day through this window.
  • the plate 26 also serves as a support for the date crown 24 which is surrounded and held in place radially by the flange 28 of this plate.

  • This calendar mechanism of FIGS. 1 and 2 and of the trailing type that is to say that the advance of the calendar by one unit and the passage from one day of the week to the next take place during a time interval d 'around four hours around midnight.
  • the drive wheel 16 is designed so that there is a certain phase shift, for example of about half an hour, between the start of the drive of the 20 day disc and that of the date crown 24 or vice versa. Subsequently it is in the first of these situations that we will place our to describe the operation of the calendar mechanism of Figures 1 and 2 and of a variant also known of the latter as well as that of the mechanism according to the invention . Under these conditions, when the drive finger 68 comes into contact with the rear flank of a tooth 34 of the day star 22, this finger begins to exert on this tooth 34 a torque to which the action of the spring is opposed. -autoir 52.
  • the elastic arm 66 stretches away from the hub 54 and the finger 68 slides along the flank of the tooth 34 with which it is in contact and rotates the star 22 and the day disc 20 in the direction of the arrow F2.
  • the end of the jumper spring 52 comes out of the hollow between two teeth of the star 22 in which it was located, while the torque exerted by the finger 68 on the tooth 34 increases.
  • the front flank 60 of the tooth 18 'of the wheel 16 comes into contact with the rear flank of a tooth 44 of the crown of date 24 and then begins to slide on this rear flank and to rotate the date crown in the direction of the arrow F3, that is to say in the same direction as the drive wheel 16 and in the opposite direction to that in which the day 20 disc rotates.
  • the end of the jumper spring 50 begins to out of the hollow between two teeth 18 of the date crown in which it was, this spring begins to tighten and the torque exerted by the tooth 18 'on the tooth 44 with which it is in contact begins to increase.
  • the wheel 16 simultaneously drives the day star 22 and the date crown 24 by providing a torque greater than that of the sum of the resistant couples exerted by the jumper springs 50 and 52 respectively on the tooth 34 of the day star 22 and that 44 of the date crown 24 with which the tooth 18 'and that 34 of the day star 22, these torques continuing to increase until the end of the jumper spring 52 arrives at the top of the tooth 34 of the day star 22.

  • the mechanism for correcting the date acts on the teeth 44 of the date crown 24 so as to rotate the latter in the direction of the arrow F3, against the spring.
  • -autoir 50 and each time the front flank of a tooth 44 comes into contact with the oblique face 64 of the rear flank 62 of the tooth 18 'of the drive wheel 16 this front flank of a tooth 44 slides on this oblique face of the tooth 18 'without appreciably modifying the angular position of this tooth 18' and this, thanks to an inherent elasticity of the drive wheel 16 which then deforms very slightly and against the resistant torque exerted on this wheel 16 by the pinion 10 which rotates in the opposite direction at a much lower speed, which can even be considered as zero.
  • the correction mechanism causes the day star 22 in the direction of arrow F2 by blowing up the end of the jumper spring 52 from one hollow between two teeth 34 to the next.
  • a front flank of a tooth of the day star 22 comes into contact with the drive finger 68 it forces the elastic arm 66 to curve very slightly towards the hub 54 of the wheel 16 to then resume its initial position after the passage at the top of this tooth 22 by the finger 68.
  • the time is changed in the advance direction, everything happens as when the mechanism operates normally except that if this change occurs done while the day and date change process is in progress this process is accelerated during the period during which the time is changed.
  • the wheel 16 then turns in the opposite direction to that of the arrow F1.
  • this tooth slides or continues to slide on this face which causes or maintains a slight deformation of the crown of the wheel 16 and which means that the position of this wheel remains unchanged.
  • the rear face of tooth 68 comes into contact with a tooth 34 of day star 22, this tooth slides on this rear face, which causes only a very slight deformation of the arm 66 in the direction which brings it closer to the hub 54 of the wheel until the tooth 68 arrives at the top of the tooth 34. At this time the arm returns to its initial position without the position of the star 22 and the disc 20 days has been changed.
  • Figures 3 and 4 illustrate a variant of the calendar mechanism shown in Figures 1 and 2, which corresponds to a mechanism used in other movements also manufactured and marketed by the applicant.
  • FIG. 3 which is a top view of the day of the week disc and of the day star, this star always designated by the reference number 22 remains unchanged and still has fourteen teeth 34.
  • the disc of the days 20 'no longer carries twice the abbreviations of the successive days of the week in the same language, like the disc 20 in the figure, but alternatively the abbreviations of the days in two languages, in this case in English and French.
  • the star and the day disc no longer have to rotate normally by a fourteenth of a turn per day but by a seventh.
  • the second drive finger 70' acts in the same way on the next tooth 34 to spin this disc again a fourteenth of a turn in the same direction.
  • the action of the second finger 70 ' is synchronized with that of the tooth 18' so that the total torque which the drive wheel 16 must exert at the same time the day star 22 and the date crown 24 never reach the sum of the maximum torques necessary to rotate this star and this crown.
  • the second finger 70 ′ acts like the first finger 68, that is to say that it forces the elastic arm 66 to curve in order to allow the 'star 22 and 20 days disc' to switch from the display of the same day from one language to another or from one day to the next in the same language.
  • the first drive finger 68 and the arm 66 is also valid for the second drive finger 70 '.
  • this variant of FIGS. 3 and 4 justifies the presence of the tongue 70 in the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • the wheel 16 made in one piece from the same material does not make it possible to obtain an optimization of the drive both of the day star and of the date crown according to the materials of which these may be formed, for example when the date crown is made of an alloy of copper and beryllium while the day star is made of steel to allow this disc of the days to be welded by laser.
  • the sign and the value of the phase difference between the drive of the day disc and that of the date crown are determined during the design and manufacture of the drive wheel 16.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a calendar mechanism capable of indicating both the date and the day of the week which does not have these drawbacks.
  • the mechanism according to the invention which meets the definition given in the first paragraph above is remarkable in that the means for driving the indicator for the day of the week include a second wheel. drive with external teeth, superimposed and coaxial with the first drive wheel and in that said first and second drive wheels have the same diameter and the same even number of teeth and are driven by the same mobile secured to the hour wheel.

  • the embodiment of the mechanism according to the invention shown in Figure 5 differs from the variant in question by the fact that the single drive wheel 16 of this variant is replaced by two superimposed coaxial wheels 76 and 76 ', having the same diameter and the same number of teeth, respectively 78 and 78', in this case twelve teeth, which are both mounted on the same shaft 14 secured to the frame of the movement and driven by the same pinion 10 to six teeth secured to the barrel 4 of the hour wheel 2 of this movement.
  • the wheel 76 which is responsible for driving the date crown 24 comprises, like the wheel 16 in FIGS. 1 to 4, a hub, a spoke and a toothed crown not references.
  • the wheel 76 no longer includes an elastic arm or fingers for driving the star 22 and the day 20 disc, which means that it could be produced in another form provided that it continues to present, d 'on the one hand, a tooth 78' longer than the others and of the same shape as before to be able to drive the date crown and, on the other hand, its own elasticity sufficient to allow manual modification of the display of this date of the same way as with the single drive wheel 16.
  • the wheel 76 ′ which is located above the date drive wheel and whose role is to drive the star 22 and the disc 20 of the days of the week, it is identical to the wheel 16 of FIG. 2, except that it has no particular tooth and that its twelve teeth 78 'are identical. It is therefore not necessary to describe the operation of the calendar mechanism according to the invention shown in FIG. 5. On the other hand, it is useful to show that this mechanism or a similar mechanism makes it possible to achieve the aims sought by the invention indicated above.
  • parameters of each of the wheels 76 and 76 ′ can be determined separately as a function of the structural characteristics and methods of manufacturing the mobiles they entail to optimize the functioning of the calendar mechanism of which they are a part.
