  • the present invention relates to a system for selecting one or more colour shades, comprising a plurality of colour display cards, each with mixed shades of at least two colours, and comprising means for selecting one mixed shade among the mixed shades of the individual colour display card, means for presenting the selected mixed shade and means for specifying the selected mixed shade, for example for preparing paint, wherein the selection means are comprised of an opaque screen, said screen being movable across the colour display card, and wherein the means for presenting the selected mixed shade are comprised of an opening in the opaque screen, a portion of said colour display card being visible through the opening.
  • fluorescent lamps or halogen lamps can change colour perception, and light sources, such as high-pressure discharge lamps emitting light in a very narrow frequency band, can distort a colour considerably under certain circumstances, so that a red colour may, for example, ap- pear grey. Other circumstances also play a role. It is, for example, of great importance, whether the subject colour shade is presented together with another colour shade, as these colour shades may influence each other and may serve to convey a collective colour impression. This may be desirable or undesirable. Another important factor is surface finish, since a glossy and a matt surface convey colour impressions of considerable difference. Paint of a specific colour applied to e. g. a brick wall usually conveys a different impression than the same painted applied to e. g. a gypsum plate.
