- Polyurethane hydrogels are usually prepared from an isocyanate component and polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol or glycerol as a polyol, partly in the presence of oligoalkylene oxides with primary amino end groups as accelerators and water for hydrolysis. Regardless of whether working with or without accelerator, the polyol component is always used in excess, so that the hydrogels thus obtained still contain excess polyol and, if appropriate, accelerator.
