- the seal 6 is dimensioned so as to be compressed between the outer edge of the recess and the pusher tube 4.
- the button 9 further comprises a ring 7 which closes the periphery of the recess 11 and which is provided to maintain the position of the seal 6.
- a problem with the devices of the type just described is that it is in principle not possible to exactly adjust the dimension of the recess 2 to that of the push button 9. In fact, with customary manufacturing tolerances, we can not guarantee a perfect centering of the axis of the push rod 8 relative to the recess 2. In these conditions, it is necessary to provide a gap serving as a clearance space between the button 9 and the wall of the recess 2. A disadvantage of the presence of this gap is to allow the accumulation of dirt between the push button 9 and the middle 1. On the other hand, a defect of centering even light button 9 relative to the recess 2 can affect the aesthetics of the watch.
- the middle part of the watch for which the push-button control device is intended comprises a cap serving as a covering for an underlying structure made in one material easier to machine or cheaper.
- Such watch cases formed of a center of a first material covered with a protective or decorative cap of a second material are well known to those skilled in the art.
- the patent document EP 1'102'136 describes a watch case comprising a center made of steel dressed with a cap made of a very hard and scratch-resistant material such as ceramic.
- the figure 2 illustrates by way of example a chronograph watch equipped with pusher control devices 29 and whose box is dressed with a cap made of ceramic for example.
- the push rod must naturally cross both the cap and the center of the watch case.
- the cap and the center of the box must both be provided with an opening, and the opening of the cap must be superimposed as accurately as possible to the opening of the center once the two components of the box assembled .
- the manufacturing tolerances of a machined part are normally all the more important, as the material in which this last is performed is difficult to work. But the accuracy of the adjustment of the cap on the center depends largely on the accuracy with which the cap was made.
- the figure 3 illustrates by way of example a misalignment between the opening in the steel center and the opening of the cap 22. It is easy to understand that the insertion of a pusher control device into openings also misaligned can cause problems.
- the push button may even be so off-center that it simply does not pass through the opening in the ceramic cap.

- the stroke of the push rod 28 is limited in the other direction by a key 33 or circlip secured to the rod and which abuts in the rest position against the lower end of the push tube 24.
- Two O-ring seals Sealing 36 ensuring a tight closure of the tube 24 are arranged in the tube portion 24b between the rod 28 and the tube. The two seals are held axially by a ring 42 which surrounds the rod 28 and closes the tube portion 24b at the shoulder 24c.
- the push rod 28 is returned to the rest position by a helical spring 35 surrounding a portion of the rod 28.
- the spring 35 is supported by one of its ends against the bottom of the annular recess 31, while its other end is supported by the pusher tube 24 through the ring 42.
- the push button 29 can shift laterally with respect to the axis of the rod 28. It can be seen on the figure 4 that the pusher button 29 has a hollow cap 25 which protrudes out of the recess 22 and which covers the upper end of the cylindrical head 28a.

- the cap 25 is rigidly attached to an annular base member, or ring, 27. As will now be explained, the annular base member 27 is mounted on the cylindrical head 28a with play.

- a screw 40 whose threaded axis 38 is capped with a disc-shaped head 40, is screwed into the hole 39.
- the screw 40 passes through a central circular opening of the base member 27, so that this element is sandwiched between the top of the push rod and the head of the screw 40.
- the diameter of the central opening of the base member 27 is smaller than both at the diameter of the cylindrical head 28a and the head of the screw 40, the push button 29 can not be detached from the rod 28 without unscrewing the screw 40.
- the diameter of the opening the center of the base member 27 is substantially larger than the diameter of the threaded shaft 38, so that the base member may, to a certain extent, shift laterally with respect to the axis of the screw 40 .
