  • a nip is the location where the print image is transferred to the substrate. In general, this is done in a nip between a pressure plate and a counter-pressure cylinder. In the most common forms of offset printing, however, the transfer of the printed image takes place in a nip between a blanket cylinder and an impression cylinder. In this case, the printing plate cylinder is upstream of the blanket cylinder. Since a multicolor print image is usually composed of a plurality of monochrome print images, a multicolor print engine contains several color works.
