a postal mail processing method in which a digital image of a surface of a current mail is formed to recognize by OCR a recipient's mailing address for that mailing and if it is determined that said recipient's address recognized corresponds to an incorrect recipient address is affixed on said surface of the current shipment a redirection address.

This digital signature is used as an index for the recovery in a database of address information recognized by OCR.
