the polypeptide antibiotics are bacitracin and a polymyxin, wherein particularly polymyxin B is chosen.
Bacitracin is effective against gram-positive bacteria by inhibition of cell wall synthesis; resistances against bacitracin occur hardly.
a bactericidal effect of bacitracin acts only on proliferating bacteria. Inhibition of cell wall synthesis results in a better uptake of aminoglycosides so that a combination of bacitracin and at least one aminoglycoside results in a synergistic effect.
