  • Monopoly pylons usually consist of a large diameter tube composed of several sections. The strongest pipe sections are placed at the base of the monopole pylon. It is common for a monopole pylon to consist of tubes of different diameters and thicknesses. Diameter variations are compensated by assemblies (flanges or welded connections, interlocking,). The flanges are steel crowns having a number of holes necessary for bolting two consecutive pipe sections. The flange is an expensive component of the assembly. Welds are commonly used in the factory to compensate for the variation in diameter interposing between the two sections of a room. On construction sites, welds are often prohibited, limiting the height of the pylons.
