Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for securing a climbing rope with a support body having a receiving space for a rope loop, and with a wrapping part movably arranged on the support body for the rope loop placed through the receiving space, the movement of which clamps the rope on the support body.
  • the housing comprises two base plates, between which a fixed rope guide element and a pivoting loop for a rope are arranged.
  • the pivoting loop has an outer surface that is eccentric and non-circular with respect to its pivot axis.
  • the gap between the fixed rope guide element and the pivoting loop therefore changes when the loop is rotated around its axis, and the rope guided through the gap is clamped at the clamping point.
  • a release lever is provided on the loop, which allows the braking force at the clamping point to be regulated in order to allow the rope to run through the device in a controlled manner.
  • a carabiner can be attached to the housing, which is passed through two holes in the two base plates outside the swivel range of the encircling element.
  • a disadvantage of the known systems is the one-sided "point" clamping point, where the clamped rope section is subjected to a heavy load, which can lead to damage to the rope, often unnoticed.
  • the invention discloses a device according to claim 1 of the appended claims.
  • the invention now aims to further develop a device of the type mentioned above without using a carabiner as a clamping element, such that neither the rope nor the movable wrapping part is overloaded or damaged.
  • this is achieved by providing two spaced-apart clamping points for the rope loop on the support body, and by having a clamping area for each of the two clamping points on the wrapping part.
  • the clamping points can have rounded surfaces, and even the thinnest ropes used in climbing are reliably clamped.
  • the clamping is (almost) symmetrical at both clamping points, meaning that even the dreaded reversal of the load-bearing rope side and the brake-hand rope side within the device cannot lead to fatal consequences, as long as the brake hand holds the rope on the side not directly under load. Since no carabiner is integrated into the belaying and braking system, the most suitable materials, such as stainless steel or titanium, can be used for all parts that come into contact with the rope.
  • the carabiner cross-section which can be round, oval, or triangular, plays no role in the braking performance of the belaying device.
  • the loop is preferably spring-loaded, so that it automatically returns to its resting position after a load is applied. This allows for very easy rope insertion and retrieval, and the device does not need to be touched during the belaying process, thus virtually eliminating operator error. Contact is only required when lowering a climber.
  • the lateral boundaries of the receiving space for the rope loop are formed, in particular, by connecting bolts or rivets and, if necessary, bushings or sleeves enclosing these between a base plate and a top plate of the support body.
  • the looping portion can move back and forth essentially centrally with respect to the two lateral boundaries, so that the force distribution on the two clamping points is fairly balanced.
  • the wrapping element is pivotable about an axis located outside the receiving space for the rope loop.
  • the pivot axis of the wrapping element preferably lies in a further connecting bolt or the like between the base plate and the top plate of the support body, positioned close to a line connecting the bolts located at the rope entry and exit openings.
  • This further connecting bolt carries a pivotable tab from which the wrapping element extends upwards.
  • the clearance between the wrapping element and the connecting bolt is significantly larger than the diameter of the thickest rope to be inserted, allowing the rope loop threaded into the receiving space to be easily placed around the pivoted wrapping element.
  • the wrapping part is preferably pivotable by at least 90°, wherein the tab supporting it is aligned approximately parallel to the aforementioned connecting line when the rope loop is clamped, and the wrapping part meets the two clamping points at approximately a right angle.
  • the clasp is preferably designed as a ring and of the lowest possible weight, which allows it to have a very large central opening, also formed in the tab. If the diameter of the opening is larger than the swivel range of the clasp between the clamped and rest positions, through-holes for a carabiner can be provided in the base plate and the top plate of the carrier body. When a carabiner is attached to the housing at this point, it also passes through the significantly larger central opening of the clasp without touching the ring in either the clamped or rest position. A carabiner thus does not impede the swivel of the clasp and can therefore always be moved or pivoted back and forth. The arrangement of the carabiner within the swivel range of the clasp contributes to a compact and handy size of the safety device.
  • the safety device according to the invention thus exhibits excellent braking performance in the event of a fall onto the rope, while simultaneously protecting the material thanks to its division into two clamping areas.
  • the clamping areas are offset by approximately 250° around the circumference of the looping section.
  • the looping section is spring-assisted to return it to its rest position and is positioned far enough away from the clamping points to allow the rope to be easily pulled through.
  • Preferred embodiments therefore feature a release projection on the loop that extends essentially in line with the loop, and a release lever pivoting around an axis is associated with this release projection.
  • the release lever is preferably two-armed, requiring the lever arm, which is grasped by hand, to rotate away from the operator to loosen the loop. This movement occurs only with focused operation, not in a panicked, unfocused situation. Even a reflexive grasp or clenching of the hand in a panic situation would not trigger the lowering of the climber.
  • the release lever has been designed to be suitable for both right- and left-handed users, thus avoiding unnecessary operating complications.
  • the release lever is also spring-loaded, so that after actuation it returns to its basic position against the base body.
  • a device for securing a climbing rope 3 has according to Fig. 1 or Fig. 6
  • a support body 1 is provided with a receiving space 2 for a rope loop 4.
  • two opposing clamping points 11, 12 are provided, in which the rope loop 4 is clamped and locked in the rope 3 in the event of overload, for example, a fall by the climber hanging from the load rope side 13.
  • This is achieved by the rope loop 4 being guided around a movable wrapping element 15, on which two opposing clamping areas 21, 22 are formed.
  • the passage space for the rope 3 in both clamping points 11, 12 is reduced, clamping and braking or stopping the rope there.
  • the movement of the wrapping part 15 is in the first embodiment according to Figs. 1 to 5 a pivoting movement about an axis 16 arranged outside the receiving space 2 for the rope loop 4 and, in the second embodiment, a displacement in the direction of the arrow 20 ( Fig. 6 ).
  • the support body 1 is constructed in a housing-like manner from a base plate 7 and a cover plate 8, which are held at a distance from each other by connecting elements 9 in the form of bolts, grooves or screws etc.
  • the connecting elements 9 are preferably surrounded by bushings or sleeves. Two connecting elements 9 define the entry and exit opening 10 for the rope loop 4 and each form the fixed clamping area of the two clamping points 11, 12.
  • the base plate 7 and the cover plate 8 each have an opening 6 through which a carabiner 5 ( Fig. 1 ) through which it can be suspended approximately in the center of the support body 1.
  • the base and top plates 7, 8 can have honeycomb-like areas to reduce weight, as shown. Fig. 1 shows.
  • FIG. 2 Figure 1 shows the support body 1 of the securing device without the cover plate 8 and with the wrapping element 15 pivoted outwards about the axis 16.
  • the wrapping element 15 has a ring body arranged on a tab 17.
  • the ring body has an opening 19 with a diameter that is significantly larger than the diameter of the opening 6 in the base plate 7.
  • the wrapping element 15 has a release extension 18 extending from the tab 17.
  • Two areas spaced approximately 110° apart around the circumference of the ring body represent clamping areas 21 and 22 for the rope 3.
  • a release lever 25 is pivotably arranged about an axis 26 and has an extension 27.
  • the release lever 25 covers the area shown in Figure 1.
  • Fig. 2 In its apparent resting position, a significant part of the carrier body 1 is laterally detached.
  • FIG. 3 Figure 1 shows the looping part 15 in its pivoted rest or release position, in which the rope loop 4 formed between the load rope side 13 and the brake hand rope side 14 is guided around the looping part 15 in the receiving space 2 without being clamped.
  • the rope 3 shown with dashed lines can be pulled through the safety device by pulling on the load rope side 13, which leads upwards towards the climber, with one hand and pushing the rope forward on the brake hand rope side 14 with the other hand.
  • the significantly larger opening 19 of the looping part 15 overlaps the opening 6 in the base plate 7; the same applies in the braking or locking position, which is shown in Fig. 4
  • the pivoting of the encircling part 15 is therefore not hindered even when a carabiner 5 is hooked into the opening 6 of the carrier body 1.
  • the loaded rope is guided through the device in a controlled manner by actuating the release lever 25, which presses the extension 27 against the release extension 18 of the wrap-around section 15.
  • This opens the clamping points 11, 12 to a certain extent, and the loaded rope is pulled through the safety device with a delay, for example, to lower a climber hanging from the rope to the ground. Opening the brake requires deliberate actuation of the release lever 25. If this movement is disturbed or interrupted, the wrap-around section 15 pivots back into the braking or locking position, and the braking effect is amplified by the load hanging from the rope.
  • the inlet and outlet opening 10 is provided in a round, tube-like support body 1, in which the wrapping element 15 is linearly displaceable along the opening axis.
  • the division into two clamping points 11, 12 is also provided.
