Definitions
- the present invention relates to a mobile vehicle barrier. More particularly, the present invention relates to a mobile vehicle barrier which, when driven over by a vehicle, tips over and wedges itself between the vehicle and the ground, stopping vehicle movement.
- Mobile vehicle barriers are used to protect mostly temporary events/events and are erected when needed.
- Barriers corresponding to the state of the art and tests are based on the principle that the kinetic energy and momentum of the vehicle hitting the barrier is transferred to the barrier and thus leads to a reduction in the speed of the vehicle.
- these barriers mostly made of concrete, offer only limited protection, as they can be pushed aside by heavy vehicles or, particularly disadvantageously, can be thrown away by the vehicle itself and then pose additional sources of danger.
- the effectiveness of such a barrier is highly dependent on the impact angle of the vehicle on the vehicle barrier and in particular on the mass of the barrier.
- the mass of such a momentum transfer based vehicle barrier must be significantly greater than that of the impacting vehicle for it to be effective.
- these vehicle barriers represent significant obstacles for people fleeing in the event of a panic.
- a vehicle barrier of interconnected segments is from the US Application 2005/0201829 famous.
- flat plates are interconnected at several points to form a barrier.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to provide a vehicle barrier that reliably stops heavy vehicles in particular, such as trucks or vans.
- the stopping effect and the complete standstill of the vehicle should preferably be achieved in the shortest possible distance. Furthermore, it is advantageous if as little debris as possible is created and thrown away when the vehicle is stopped.
- the directional information used relates to a vehicle barrier standing on level ground or on the roadway.
- a transverse direction of the vehicle barrier is a direction that is toward a direction of travel of a vehicle running onto the vehicle barrier.
- the descriptions given here are based on a vehicle whose direction of travel is parallel to the transverse direction (width) of the vehicle barrier.
- the vehicle barrier is also effective when a vehicle does not drive onto the vehicle barrier parallel to the transverse direction.
- a longitudinal direction of the vehicle barrier is the longest extension of the vehicle barrier parallel to the roadway surface and thus the transverse direction is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
- the ground or roadway can be of any type. The term "height" is to be understood as rising from the roadway.
- a longitudinal edge of the vehicle barrier is parallel to the longitudinal direction.
- a mobile vehicle barrier includes a base portion and an upstanding portion.
- the center of gravity of the mobile vehicle barrier is in the towering section.
- the rising portion is spaced from a longitudinal edge of the base portion.
- the vehicle barrier can be tilted in the direction of travel when a vehicle drives into it, and the vehicle jacks itself up onto the tilted vehicle barrier.
- the tilted vehicle barrier is trapped between the vehicle and the roadway. This pinching and jacking up of the vehicle creates the stopping effect of the vehicle barrier.
- Additional braking effect achieved by the base portion of the barrier wedging between the vehicle on the upper side of the base portion and the roadway on the lower side of the base portion and the upstanding portion of the barrier making ground contact. This creates additional friction, which helps to brake the vehicle with the vehicle barrier.
- the protruding section acts as a lever, via which the base section and thus the entire vehicle barrier is tilted in the direction of travel by the oncoming vehicle. With this, the vehicle is jacked up by that part of the base section which it has already passed over when it reaches the towering section.
- the position of the center of gravity in the projecting section is selected in such a way that the vehicle barrier cannot be tilted manually by people, but tilts when a vehicle drives into it.
- Jacking up creates less debris as the full impact of the force comes from the vehicle barrier underneath the vehicle, thereby shielding the debris distribution from the vehicle itself. Furthermore, in vehicles, the area in which the vehicle barrier acts is usually very stable, which further reduces the probability of debris formation.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to the above aspect may further have a lateral extent of the base portion that is less than or approximately equal to a height of the upstanding portion. This makes it easier to tilt the vehicle barrier and the vehicle barrier can be adapted for different purposes, e.g. only for cars in areas that cannot be reached with larger vehicles anyway, or for vehicle barriers that can hold off vehicles of all sizes.
- the mobile vehicle barrier of the invention will include posts in the upstanding portion.
- the vehicle barrier can thus be passed by pedestrians who can walk between the posts. Even the barrier can be passed by mounted police. If the vehicle barrier tilts, it then rests on the roadway with a head area of the post.
- the center of gravity of the vehicle barrier does not have to be physically located in a part of the upstanding section, but can also be located in a gap between the posts or outside the physical part of the upstanding section.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may have a spacing of at least 80cm between posts. This is advantageous because it meets the German requirements for escape routes.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may have a longitudinal extent of the base portion of less than 2.5m. This is advantageous because the vehicle barrier can be loaded onto a truck transversely to the direction of travel.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may include a receptacle for industrial trucks. This is advantageous because the vehicle barrier can be easily loaded and/or moved using a forklift, telehandler or pallet truck, for example.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may include at least one anchor point. This is advantageous because the vehicle barrier can be loaded and/or moved easily with a loading crane on a truck, for example.
- An attachment point can, for example, be a thread into which an eyebolt can be screwed, or eyelets, hooks, lifting points, etc. molded directly onto the vehicle barrier.
- a mobile vehicle barrier may include a base portion that is shaped sloping towards a peripheral edge of the base portion. This results in a base section that is in a central area is increased compared to a peripheral edge area or the peripheral edge.
- the upstanding section is preferably arranged in this middle area.
- the bulge or flattening from the central area to the peripheral edge is advantageous as it reduces the risk of tripping for pedestrians passing through the vehicle barrier.
- Driving onto the base section is also made easier; this applies to the vehicle to be stopped on the one hand, and on the other hand to baby carriages or bicycles that pass through the vehicle barrier.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may have a sharp edge at the top of the upstanding portion. This advantageously improves the stopping effect of the vehicle barrier, since the vehicle barrier can better wedge itself with the roadway and the wedging effect is increased.
- a sharp edge within the meaning of this invention is such that people and animals (e.g. police horses) cannot injure themselves on it, but the edge is as pronounced as possible.
- the vehicle barrier it is also conceivable for the vehicle barrier to have at least one tip in the protruding section, which, after the vehicle has toppled over, bores into the roadway or is pushed into the roadway by the movement in the direction of travel. Since such a tip represents a source of injury for pedestrians or animals, it is conceivable to provide it with a protective cover, which releases the tip if the vehicle barrier tips over. This could be e.g. a suitable foam or a shatterable plastic.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may have a total weight equal to or less than 1000kg. This is advantageous because, on the one hand, such a vehicle barrier is easy to load and transport and, on the other hand, has enough mass to reliably stop an approaching vehicle.
- a mobile vehicle barrier may include the following dimensional ranges, with all intermediate dimensions being expressly stated and the dimensions can be chosen independently: a transverse dimension of the base section of at least 65 cm and less than or equal to 100 cm, a longitudinal dimension of at most 250 cm and a height of the rising section of at least 93 cm and at most 125 cm.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may be made of metal and/or concrete. This is advantageous for a stable and cost-effective design of the vehicle barrier.
- the metal can be a ductile metal.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may include a hollow base portion. This can be advantageous in choosing the center of gravity of the vehicle barrier. Furthermore, the vehicle barrier with a hollow base portion rests on the ground or roadway only with its peripheral edge. This promotes wedging of the vehicle barrier in the event of a vehicle driving into it. This can also be combined with the above-mentioned bulging or flattening from the middle area towards the peripheral edge.
- a mobile vehicle barrier according to any of the above aspects may have recesses formed in a head portion of the posts. This is advantageous because the resulting web between the recess and the outer sides of the posts results in an edge that facilitates wedging between the vehicle driving up and the roadway and thus increases the stopping effect.
- a mobile vehicle barrier 10 having a base portion 20 and three posts 30 .
- the posts 30 are arranged in a central area of the base section 20 .
- the base portion 20 has two longitudinal edges 40 that are parallel to each other and parallel to a longitudinal direction of the vehicle barrier 10 .
- a peripheral edge 50 encompasses the longitudinal edges 40.
- the central area of the base section 20, in which the three posts 30 are arranged, is designed to be elevated compared to the peripheral edge 50.
- FIG. This results in a curvature of the base section 20 from the peripheral edge 50 towards the post 30.
- the base section 20 is hollow, ie it lies or stands only with its peripheral edge 50 on the roadway or the ground. On the one hand, this promotes passability without the risk of tripping for passers-by and, on the other hand, the tilting of the entire vehicle barrier 10.
- the curvature of the base section 20 is in figure 2 clearly visible.
- the posts 30 are hollow in a lower region and solid in the head region (see FIG figure 3 ).
- the center of gravity of the vehicle barrier 10 can be selected or adjusted accordingly through the relationship between the hollow and solid portion of the posts 30 and the design of the base part, and thus the tilting behavior (expenditure of force, etc.) can be influenced or selected.
- the posts 30 rise up from the base portion 20 .
- the posts 30 are essentially cuboid and have a circumferential head edge 60 and a recess 70 in their head area, with a thread 75 in the recess 70 (please refer figure 3 ) is arranged.
- An attachment point eg eyebolt
- eyebolt can be screwed into the thread 75 in order to be able to raise the vehicle barrier 10, for example.
- the recess 70 causes the head portion of the posts 30 to have a reduced wall thickness portion 65 . In this way, the head area and in particular the head edge 60 can drill into the roadway or the ground more easily when it is tipped over (see figure 4 ).
- the side faces of the cuboid posts 30 in this embodiment are rotated by 45° to the longitudinal edge 40 (see FIG figures 1 and 2 ), so that when you tip over, only the corners of the head edge 60 rest on the ground and can thus wedge more easily with the ground or drill into it.
- the middle post 30 has a receptacle 80 for industrial trucks.
- the receptacle 80 is formed by recesses 81 in the foot area of the middle post 30 (see, for example, figure 3 ).
- the tines of an industrial truck are inserted into the socket 80 and the vehicle barrier 10 is then raised, the vehicle barrier 10 rests on the shoulders 82 (see FIG figure 3 ).
- figure 4 12 shows the vehicle barrier 10 in the tilted condition when a vehicle (not shown) has struck.
- the vehicle would have driven onto the vehicle barrier 10 from left to right (see arrow in figure 4 ).
- the portion of the base portion 20 raised from the ground is chocked to the vehicle and the lower portion of the base portion 20 is chocked to the ground.
- the head portion of the post 30 (only one visible) also rests with its head edge 60 on the ground and thus wedges or bores into the ground when the tilted vehicle barrier 10 moves to the right in figure 4 is pushed. This corresponds to the direction of travel of the vehicle which has tilted the vehicle barrier 10 and become wedged with it.
- the vehicle wedged to the vehicle barrier 10 is decelerated by the friction between the peripheral edge 50 and the head edge 60 and the ground.
