Definitions

  • the invention relates to an electrical plug device with a front housing to which components intended to accommodate electrical contact elements (pins, sockets) are connected.
  • Electrical connectors such as plugs or sockets.
  • Couplings for power current according to DIN VDE 0623, EN 60309 2 (“CEE plugs”) or according to IEC 62196 ("electric car charging plugs") contain an access side to which a complementary plug device (coupling or plug) can be inserted.
  • the access side typically has a front housing, which closes off the plug device in this area from the outside and electrically insulates it, with an insert (as a separately manufactured component) arranged in the front housing, which carries the actual metallic contact elements (pins for a plug and sockets for a socket) and enables their electrical connection to an electrical supply line.
  • the insert is usually screwed to the front housing, but this requires relatively complex assembly.
  • a plug-in device in particular a socket, is known in which a contact carrier is fastened to a socket housing via locking elements and is connected to a contact attachment via further locking elements.
  • the EN 10 2016 121 847 A1 A connector part is known in which an annular frame part is attached to a housing part via locking elements and is connected to a base part via further locking elements.
  • first, second, third or fourth locking elements are referred to in the plural, this refers to the typical case and is not intended to exclude the possibility that in certain embodiments only a single first, second, third and/or fourth locking element may be provided.
  • the electrical contact elements typically have a longitudinal extension that determines the plug-in direction in which the plug-in device can be connected to a complementary plug-in device during the plugging process.
  • This longitudinal extension or plug-in direction is used below as the reference axis for terms such as "axial”, “radial”, or “circumferential direction”.
  • the front housing is typically located on the access side of the connector, i.e. where the plugging process takes place. In terms of its three-dimensional shape, it is generally tubular with a tube axis that corresponds to the plugging direction mentioned above.
  • the term "collar” in the broadest sense is intended to refer only to an area of the front housing.
  • the collar is a terminal area of the front housing, in particular at the end of the front housing facing away from the access side ("proximal").
  • the collar has an external thread on its outside, via which the front housing can be screwed together with another, rear housing part (usually referred to as a "hood") to form the entire connector device.
  • the collar can typically be identified with the area of the external thread.
  • connection between the front housing and the insert module or between the insert module and the retaining plate is preferably made exclusively via the interaction of the first and second locking elements or the third and fourth locking elements, without the need for additional aids such as screws.
  • the first, second, third and fourth locking elements are all arranged within the collar of the front housing.
  • the axial extents of the second locking elements and third locking elements on the insert module overlap (fully or partially), whereby, as explained, the "axial" direction is defined by the plug-in direction. Since the second and third locking elements of the insert module are typically at the height of the associated first and third locking elements, respectively, fourth locking elements, the axial overlap between them usually also requires an additional axial overlap with the first and/or fourth locking elements.
  • a plug device according to the invention is designed such that the second and third locking elements overlap axially and that in the assembled state the first, second, third and fourth locking elements are all arranged in the collar.
  • Plug-in devices according to the invention have the advantage that they can be easily assembled using locking elements, preferably just by locking processes ("clipping together"). Furthermore, a particularly compact structure is achieved because all locking elements are accommodated in the collar or at least partially overlap axially. The arrangement of all locking elements in the collar also has the advantage that this limits the mobility of locking elements radially outwards and thus contributes significantly to the stability of the connection.
  • At least one of the third locking elements is designed as a U-shaped bracket which surrounds at least one of the second locking elements.
  • U-shaped is to be understood in a general sense and also includes, for example, arched shapes or C-shapes.
  • the outer legs of the U-shape of the bracket are aligned axially, i.e. in the direction of insertion.
  • all third locking elements of the insert module are designed as brackets of this type, each of which surrounds at least one second locking element.
  • each of the second locking elements there are at least two locking elements designed as brackets, viewed in the circumferential direction, between which at least one of the second locking elements is arranged.
  • a sufficiently high number of second locking elements can be provided, since these are arranged not only within a bracket, but also between two brackets.
  • all third locking elements of the insert module are designed as brackets, and the associated second locking elements are arranged alternately within a bracket or between two brackets.
  • the invention provides that the front housing and the insert module can preferably be joined together at at least two different angles of rotation relative to one another (in relation to the direction of insertion). Typically, they can be plugged together at six to twelve different discrete angles of rotation, also known as clock positions, in order to realize a corresponding number of variants of the finished plug-in device.
  • the front housing and the insert module are designed to be joined together by plugging from the side of the collar.
  • the insert module is therefore not inserted from the front (distal) access side of the front housing, but on the rear (proximal) collar side, so that the back of the insert module, on which the holding plate is to be mounted, does not first have to be guided through the front housing from the access side (which would generally not be possible due to space constraints).
  • This has the advantage that the holding plate can be pre-assembled on the insert module, and that the insert module with the pre-assembled holding plate can then be inserted into the front housing from the collar side. This pre-assembly option simplifies the production process considerably.
  • first, second, third and/or fourth locking elements could be present.
  • two or more of the first, second, third and/or fourth locking elements are provided for reasons of stability, whereby these are preferably distributed in the circumferential direction.
  • an even circumferential distribution i.e. at equal angular intervals is usually used.
  • At least one of the first locking elements, second locking elements, third locking elements and/or fourth locking elements can be designed as a nose-shaped (ramp-shaped) projection.
  • a nose-shaped projection has a slope ("nose bridge") along which a complementary locking element can slide when assembled, whereby it protrudes after crossing the tip of the nose and recovering an elastic deformation, thus blocking the backward movement.
  • the essential components in the plug-in device according to the invention i.e. the front housing, the insert module and the holding plate, can each be manufactured and sold as independent products.
  • a plug device designed as a plug 100 according to the present invention is shown in increasing degrees of disassembly or in reverse chronological order of assembly.
  • Figure 1 shows the fully assembled plug device 100 in a perspective view from the front, i.e. looking at the access side.
  • the plug pins ST can be seen, which are arranged in a tubular front housing 110 (hereinafter also generally provided with the reference symbol "FG") for protection and insulation.
  • the longitudinal axis of the plug pins ST defines the plug-in direction of the plug device and is used below as the reference axis X.
  • the front housing FG and a rear housing part120 are connected to each other by a screw connection.
  • This screw connection is made via an external thread, which is in the region of a collar 112 of the front housing facing away from the access side (ie proximal).
  • FIG 3 shows the front housing FG separated, ie before inserting an insert module 140 ("EB”) and a holding plate 130 ("HP”), which are already connected to one another as part of a pre-assembly and accommodate the connector pins ST.
  • first locking elements 111 in the form of lugs can be seen, which are evenly distributed around the circumference.
  • These first locking elements RE1 have a slope which runs radially inwards along the axis X towards the access side of the front housing FG.
  • Second nose-shaped locking elements 142 are arranged along the outer circumference of the insert component EB, pointing radially outwards, with these having an orientation opposite to the first locking elements RE1 with respect to the axial direction X.
  • the second locking elements RE2 slide inwards with their nose bridges along the nose bridges of the first locking elements RE1 under elastic radial deformation.
  • the nose tips pass each other so that the locking elements RE1, RE2 lock together under elastic re-deformation and axial withdrawal of the insert module EB from the front housing FG is prevented.
  • the front housing and insert module are thus firmly connected to one another.
  • Figure 4 shows in an exploded view the insert module EB separated from the holding plate HP and also the connector pins ST with the associated screws 133 separated from the holding plate HP.
  • the connector pins ST are accommodated on the holding plate HP in elevations 132 which extend axially from the body 131 of the holding plate. Electrical connection cables (not shown) can be connected to the connector pins ST using the screws 133.
  • Figure 6 the insert module EB from the front in an enlarged view.
  • the nose-shaped second locking elements RE2 can be seen particularly well, of which 12 are evenly distributed around the circumference in the embodiment shown, with their noses extending radially outwards.
  • the second locking elements RE2 are elastic in the radial direction, so that they can move slightly inwards during the locking process during assembly.
  • U-shaped brackets can be seen, which form the third locking elements RE3. Six of these are evenly distributed around the outer edge of the insert module EB. Each bracket RE3 surrounds one of the second locking elements RE2. Furthermore, another of the second locking elements RE2 is arranged between two brackets RE3.
  • the cross-connecting web of the U-shaped bracket RE3 is used for locking with the fourth locking elements RE4, which are arranged in a nose-like manner pointing radially outwards along the outer circumference of the holding plate HP ( Figure 4 During the locking process, the RE3 brackets typically move elastically slightly radially outwards.
  • a second characteristic of the described construction is that the first, second, third and fourth locking elements RE1, RE2, RE3, RE4 are all accommodated (axially) in the area of the collar 112 of the front housing FG in the assembled state. This is the case in the example shown This is particularly important for the third, U-shaped locking elements RE3, since the surrounding collar 112 prevents their radial outward movement, so that after assembly they can no longer detach from the fourth locking elements RE4 of the holding plate HP.
  • a further advantage of the construction shown is that the insertion of the insert module EB into the front housing FG only takes place from the side of the collar 112 (facing away from the access side). This makes assembly easier, as it is not necessary to turn the front housing over. It also allows the pre-assembly of the insert module EB and the retaining plate HP as shown in Figure 3 shown.
  • FIGS 7-9 show the exemplary structure of a plug device in the form of a coupling 200, wherein similar components as in the plug 100 are provided with reference numbers increased by 100 or with the same reference letters.
  • the coupling 200 in turn consists of a rear housing part 220, which is screwed to a front housing 210/FG via an external thread on the collar 212 of the front housing.
  • an insert module 240/EB is attached to the front housing FG. This can be locked into place with a holding plate 230/HP, whereby the holding plate carries the metal sockets BU as contact elements.
  • connection between the front housing FG and the insert module EB is made by locking between nose-shaped first locking elements 211/RE1 on the inside of the collar 212 of the front housing with nose-shaped second locking elements 242/RE2 along the outside of the insert module EB.
  • connection between the insert module EB and the holding plate HP is made by locking the bow-shaped third locking elements 243/RE3 on the insert module with the fourth locking elements 234/RE4 on the outer circumference of the holding plate.
