Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an aqueous laundry treatment composition.
  • the present invention relates to an aqueous laundry treatment composition for removing germs from a fabric.
  • Washing fabrics also known as laundering or simply as laundry, makes up one of the main chores that people undertake routinely. For this, people have been relying on detergent compositions that are widely available.
  • a fabric is washed by contacting it with a detergent composition either in neat or diluted form, rinsing the fabric one or more times e.g. thrice, with water; and finally, drying it.
  • a fabric is cleaned by mechanically agitating it using hands and/or by using suitable cleaning means e.g. a brush, in so-called hand-wash method.
  • a fabric is cleaned by mechanically agitations carried out by a machine.
  • a step of soaking a fabric, in a neat or diluted detergent composition may be carried out for a desired duration e.g. 30 to 60 minutes.
  • the step of drying may also be carried out by using machines; or simply by exposing the fabric to air.
  • surfactants contained in a detergent composition
  • a detergent composition are primarily used for the cleaning function they offer.
  • surfactants alone or along with other ingredients that may be present in a detergent composition are able to remove germs that may be adhering to a fabric. This may be simply due to a possibility that surfactants interact chemically with germs and/or due to mechanical agitation caused during the cleaning and rinsing steps.
  • a detergent composition used and/or the mechanical agitation may not necessarily provide optimal germ removal. As a result, germs may still remain adhered to a fabric in an amount enough to cause one or more problems mentioned above.
  • an aqueous laundry treatment composition comprising one or more quaternary ammonium compound in combination with one or more organic acid in certain pKa range, a peroxide and an ethoxylated amine, provides optimal germ removal from a fabric.
  • the present invention relates to an aqueous laundry treatment composition
  • an aqueous laundry treatment composition comprising: a. from 0.5 to 5 wt% of one or more quaternary ammonium compound, b. from 0.1 to 5 wt% of one or more organic acid having pKa in the range from 1 to 5.5, c. from 1 to 5 wt% of a peroxide; and d. from 0.5 to 5 wt% ethoxylated amine with saturated or unsaturated alkyl groups having carbon atoms in the range from 12 to 22; and 1 to 50 ethoxylate groups.

  • ‘treatment’ as used in ‘a laundry treatment composition’ preferably means an action carried out on fabrics that is in addition to the washing step carried out using a detergent composition. Accordingly, a treatment may be carried out before, during or after the washing step is over. Preferably, the treatment is carried out after the washing step is over, i.e. after the fabrics are cleaned, with a detergent composition.
  • washed fabric may simply be contacted with a laundry treatment composition as per the present invention (the composition).
  • the composition may simply be added to a compartment e.g. fabric conditioner dispensing compartment, beforehand.
  • the composition is in addition to a detergent composition that may be used in the washing step.
