Definitions
- the invention relates to a self-service item anti-theft device, provided with an electronic protection system for triggering a remote alarm, the anti-theft device being in the general form of a ring or a necklace.
- the invention also relates to the method of installing such an anti-theft device.
- Such an anti-theft device is intended to combat theft, in particular shoplifting, with a view to protecting self-service items in a retail commercial establishment.
- An electronic anti-theft device can take various forms depending on the type of item to be protected. For example, it can be an electronic label (usually called a tag), or an anti-theft device whose shape is adapted to bottles, textile items, glasses, or multimedia items, etc.
- an electronic label usually called a tag
- an anti-theft device whose shape is adapted to bottles, textile items, glasses, or multimedia items, etc.
- Some items packaged in cans or tins are expensive enough for stores to install anti-theft devices.
- a known anti-theft device With respect to beverage cans, a known anti-theft device consists of two semi-circular parts hinged together, capable of being opened to be arranged astride the can, and closed against each other to form a disc-shaped shell fixed on top of the can. Such an anti-theft device is for example described in the American patent application US4457445 .
- the document IT 2020 0000 3419 A1 discloses an anti-theft device according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention aims to propose another solution for an anti-theft device for an article constituting a container provided with a peripheral rim, such as a beverage can or tin can or even an aerosol can (whether the peripheral rim is at the lower end and/or at the upper end of the container), the anti-theft device having to be simple and quick to implement, both for installation on the article and for removal, and designed to minimize manufacturing costs, in particular where the quantity of manufacturing material is minimized.
- the anti-theft device will allow the articles to be stacked; in fact, containers with a peripheral rim are generally stored one on top of the other on store shelves.
- the peripheral bead is also called a “seam” for a can.
- the anti-theft device for a container provided with a peripheral rim such as a beverage can, tin can or aerosol can (in particular an aerosol can of paint)
- a main body capable of gripping the container to be protected, anti-theft detection means, locking means with which the main body is intended to cooperate, the main body having either an open position in the unlocked state of the anti-theft device, or a closed position in the general shape of a ring in the locked state of the anti-theft device, and the device being characterized in that the main body comprises at least two, preferably at least three, spaced fixing hooks, preferably regularly spaced, which are capable of cooperating astride the peripheral rim of the container with which the anti-theft device is intended to cooperate.
- the anti-theft device is of a refined design, having the general shape of a ring, and not of a discoidal shell, and having individual localized fixing hooks, which requires much less manufacturing material than in the prior art.
- the device is intuitive and quick to install thanks to the fixing hooks.
- the fixing hooks make it possible to simply install the anti-theft device on and around the container, the anti-theft device remaining attached while the user can tighten the ring until the anti-theft device is tightly tightened all around the container.
- the anti-theft device therefore constitutes a locking system which both grips the box, can or aerosol can, and fits its bead in a localized manner, without requiring cooperation around the entire perimeter of the bead.
- the attachment to the peripheral bead of the container in combination with the gripping of the perimeter of the container ensures very good fixing of the anti-theft device.
- the presence of three (regularly) spaced hooks provides an even more robust attachment, blocking the anti-theft device without the risk of being able to twist or move the ring at an angle in order to try to relax it and/or insert a cutting tool between the container and the ring.
- each fixing hook is capable, in the position of use of the anti-theft device, of being gripped onto the peripheral bead of the container (container lid bead or container bottom bead depending on the type of container).
- each fixing hook protrudes inwardly from the main body (toward the inside of the ring).
- each fixing hook further extends in projection relative to one of the edges of the main body of the ring.
- Each fixing hook is thus raised relative to the main body (relative to the ring), so that in the closed and tightened position of the ring on the container, the main body of the ring is intimately in contact against the wall of the container, without leaving any space.
- Each fixing hook is cantilevered relative to the main body and towards the inside of said main body (of the ring).
- each fixing hook comprises an engagement groove, in particular of U-shaped section, suitable for placing the device on the container, in particular, the groove being suitable for cooperating by mutual engagement astride the peripheral bead of the container with which the anti-theft device is intended to cooperate.
- the engagement groove of each fixing hook is parallel to the main body and turned parallel and towards the opposite edge of the main body from which the hook extends in elevation.
- the groove is turned downwards in the position of use of the anti-theft device around a container and on the upper end peripheral bead, while it is turned upwards in the position of use of the anti-theft device around the container and on a lower end peripheral bead as in the case of an aerosol can.
- the fixing hook has a generally parallelepiped shape.
- This shape is simple to design for a mold.
- this allows the fixing hook (and therefore its groove) to extend in length and to grip the bead over a certain length to obtain good support.
- the length of the groove is for example of the order of 10 mm, or even a little more.
- the fixing hook has a generally square or rectangular shape when viewed from the front section, on the inside of the ring.
- each fixing hook has a shoulder which is parallel and opposite the main body of the ring (the shoulder constitutes a portion of the anti-theft device which projects the most towards the inside of the ring), preferably the shoulder being further arranged opposite the engagement groove and parallel to it.
- the shoulder is intended in the position of arrangement of the anti-theft device on the container to be turned towards the opposite (of the lid) of the container.
- the shoulder is capable of constituting a stop for stacking another container.
- the shoulder is capable of cooperating by lateral stop with the inside of the bottom of another container stacked on the container provided with the anti-theft device (at its upper end), or is capable of cooperating by lateral stop with the inside of the lid of another container arranged under the container provided with the anti-theft device (at its lower end).
- the main body and the fixing hooks are molded in a single piece.
- the main body and the fixing hooks are made of plastic, in particular polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
- the main body forming a ring is in two parts, which are removable relative to each other and whose respective free ends cooperate with each other to close the ring, or which are integral and articulated relative to each other, each having its free end which cooperates with the free end of the other to close the ring.
- the main body forming a ring is in a single part extending between two opposite ends, one of the ends cooperating with the other end in the closed position of the main body.
- the main body is completely circular and preferably comprises a metal insert (in the form of a strip) with a spring function, or the main body comprises a circular portion from one end, and a linear portion (substantially rectilinear in the open position of the ring) arranged as an extension of the circular portion towards the other end.
- the linear portion is flexible so as to be deformable to match a curved profile. The linear portion thus provides additional elasticity to the device, which guarantees effective and instantaneous withdrawal of the second end from the locking means.
- the main body in this second variant with a curved and linear profile may optionally include a metal strip which helps to increase the risk of the ring being cut.
- the geometry of the main body is adapted to the geometry of the section of the container intended to be surrounded by the anti-theft device.
- the detection means comprise an electronic theft detection system capable of triggering a remote alarm, of the radiofrequency, or magneto-acoustic, or RFID type, or other electronic alarm detection technologies.
- the detection means are arranged in a housing integral with the body of the ring and projecting towards the outside of the ring.
- the main body comprises a circular end portion, the exterior of which is provided with indentations intended to cooperate with the locking means of the ring arranged on the opposite end portion of the body of the ring; the indentations of the ring provide grooves which are intended to cooperate with the teeth of a part of the locking means, which is notched and capable of being movable.
- the locking means comprise a locking system which is arranged in a closed casing integral with the body of the ring.
- the main body of the ring, the fixing hooks, the housing of the anti-theft detection means, and the rigid casing of the locking means are obtained by molding, in particular with the same plastic material.
- the main body may have a lug projecting outwardly, in particular at the proximal part of the main body, helping to grip the device and to help tighten the ring around the container.
- the lug has a convexity against which a finger of the user is intended to be applied.
- the invention also relates to a use of the aforementioned anti-theft device of the invention for protecting a container of the can or tin type whose lid has a peripheral bead (a seam), or of the aerosol can type, in particular an aerosol paint can, whose bottom has a peripheral bead.
- the invention relates to a method for installing an anti-theft device of the invention, on a container to be protected provided with a peripheral bead (at its upper end - its lid - or its lower end - its bottom), of the can, tin can or aerosol can type, the method being characterized in that it comprises the following steps: a step of positioning the fixing hooks on the bead of the container, a step of closing the main body, i.e. a step of engaging one end of the main body of the ring in the locking means (while maintaining a section for the ring which is greater than the section of the container), this closing step possibly being prior to the step of positioning the hooks, and a step of tightening the ring until the container is firmly gripped.
- the term “height”, the qualifiers “upper”, “lower”, “top” and “bottom” of the anti-theft device are used in the context of its normal installation, that is to say relating to a notion of installation of the device (of the ring) on a container which is arranged vertically.
- the anti-theft device 1 of the invention illustrated in the figures is intended to be used to protect against theft a container 10 with a peripheral rim 11, such as for example a tin can ( figure 3 ) or a can ( figure 4 ).
- the anti-theft device 1 can be used to be installed on any container having a peripheral bead 11 at the upper end at the junction between the upper end of the wall 12 and its cover 13 ( figures 3 , 4 And 6 ), a rim which is generally referred to as a "serged" rim for a can.
- the anti-theft device 1 may also be used to be installed on any container having a lower end peripheral rim at the junction of the container wall and its bottom, such as an aerosol can, in particular a paint can (the device will be presented around the aerosol can as illustrated in the figure 5 ).
- the anti-theft device 1 is made of rigid plastic material, for example polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is for example manufactured by molding.
- PVC polyvinyl chloride
- the anti-theft device 1 comprises a main body 2 forming a fixing ring 2' in the closed position of the main body, fixing hooks 3, locking means 4 of the ring 2, and anti-theft detection means 5.
- the anti-theft device 1 is capable of adopting two positions, an open position (also called unlocked) as shown in the figure 1 , and a closed (so-called locked) position around the container 10 as illustrated in the Figures 3 to 6 .
- an open position also called unlocked
- a closed position around the container 10 as illustrated in the Figures 3 to 6 .
- the ring 2' (the main body 2 of the device) is tightened around the container 10.
- the main body 2 extends in length between two opposite distal ends 20 and 21.
- the first distal end 20 carries the locking means 4 of the anti-theft device, while the second distal end 21 is intended to cooperate with said locking means 4.
- the proximal part 22 of the main body 2 advantageously carries the detection means 5.
- the main body 2 has a first edge 23, a second opposite edge 24, and an internal face 25 facing the inside of the anti-theft device.
- the main body 2 delimits an open interior space which is intended, in the closed position of the ring 2', to be circular to match the circular cylindrical section of the container 10, its internal face 25 being pressed against the wall 12 of the container ( figure 3 ).
- the main body 2 is intended to be closed and locked after its placement around the container 11, its two ends 20 and 21 being joined and fixed to each other in a tamper-proof manner by means of the locking means 4 and the ring 2' being completely tightened.
- the fixing hooks 3 are located on the perimeter of the main body 2.
- the fixing hooks 3 are at least two, preferably three in number.
- the fixing hooks 3 are preferably substantially equidistant.
- the fixing hooks 3 are, on the one hand, projecting relative to the internal face 25 of the main body 2 in the direction of the inside of the ring (radially and inwards), and on the other hand, projecting relative to one of the edges 23 of the main body 2.
- Each fixing hook 3 has ( figure 2 ) a section of generally substantially C- or U-shaped shape, one of the wings 30 of the U, called the external wing, starting from the first edge 23 of the main body 2 and developing in a coplanar manner with the direction of said main body 2, while the remainder of the hook (core 31 and opposite wing 32 of the U called the internal wing) is cantilevered relative to the edge 23 of the main body 2 and towards the inside of the ring 2'.
- the anti-theft device 1 is automatically placed around the container 10 by hooking the fixing hooks 3 onto the bead 11 of the container, preferably having previously inserted a short length of the second end 21 into the locking means 4 (the diameter of the ring 2' must still be sufficient to be able to thread it over or under the container by surrounding it).
- the user only has to tighten the ring 2' by introducing even more length of the second end 21 into the locking means 4 until the container is completely tightened.
- each fixing hook 3 comprises an engagement groove 33 (groove of the U) whose opening is turned towards and parallel to the second edge 24 of the main body 2.
- Each groove 33 is parallel to the portion of the main body 2 to which the associated fixing hook is secured.
- Each groove 33 has a section (in a radial direction of the ring) of general U shape.
- the width of the groove 33 is adapted to the thickness of the bead 11 of the container and its height is adapted to the height of the bead 11 (relative to the lid 13 of the container) so as to fit said bead intimately.
- Each of the grooves 33 of the fixing hooks 3 thus cooperates by mutual engagement astride the bead 11 of the container 10 in the use position.
- Each fixing hook 3 is able to be thus gripped to the bead 11.
- Each fixing hook 3 follows the shape of the main body 2 of the ring. In the curved parts of the main body 2 of the ring, the length (direction parallel to that of development of the body of the ring) of the fixing hook 3 is sufficiently short so that the groove 33 of the fixing hook is linear.
- the length of a fixing hook 3 is for example 10 mm.
- the anti-theft device 1 comprises for example three fixing hooks 3 distributed on the main body 2 while being spaced 50 mm apart.
- the depth of the groove 33 is adapted to the height of the peripheral bead 11 of the container (so that the fixing hook 3 can hook and therefore remain in place on the peripheral bead 11 of the container).
- the depth of the groove 33 of each fixing hook is for example between 2 mm and 4 mm, values inclusive.
- each fixing hook 3 comprises, opposite the groove 33 and parallel thereto, a shoulder 34.
- the shoulder 34 is arranged in the extension and opposite the internal wing 32 of the U of the fixing hook 3.
- the shoulder 34 is thus arranged opposite the main body 2 and towards the inside of the ring 2'.
- the shoulder 34 of each of the fixing hooks 3 forms a projecting element. relative to the rest of the body of the anti-theft device 1 to constitute stop means aiding in the stacking of the containers.
- the shoulder 34 is intended, in the assembled position of the anti-theft device 1 at the level of the bead 11 of the cover 13 of the container 10, to be arranged on the edge of the interior of the bead 11 and projecting relative to said bead 11 of the cover towards the opposite side of the container 10 ( figure 3 ) so as to receive above and in abutment the inner periphery of the bead 11' of the bottom of a second container 10' stacked on the first container 10 ( figure 6 ).
- the shoulder 34 of the fixing hooks 3 of the anti-theft device of the lower container 10 is therefore not visible, because it is hidden by the upper container 10' and serves as a lateral stop with the inner periphery of the bead 11' of said upper container 10' and as an upper stop with the bottom of said upper container 10'.
- the main body 2 of the anti-theft device is made of rigid plastic material, for example polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
- the body is rigid so as not to dangle in the open position, and is sufficiently flexible to be manipulated so as to be curved to introduce the second free end 21 into the locking means 4, then to be compressed to continue the insertion of the free end 21 beyond the locking means 4, so as to reduce the diameter of the ring 2' to the desired tightening.
- the fixing hooks 3 are integral with the main body 2; they are preferably molded in a single piece with the main body 2 and are made of the same plastic material.
- the main body 2 may comprise a metal strip, integrated into the thickness of the plastic body or attached to its interior surface.
- the main body 2 is not completely circular in the open position; the main body 2 comprises several portions with distinct geometric lines: a portion 2A called circular, an intermediate linear (rectilinear) portion 2B, and a portion 2C called curved.
- the linear portion 2B is flexible so as to be deformable to match a curved profile.
- the curved portion 2C connected to the end 20 carrying the locking means 4 requires the ring to end in a substantially rounded manner to obtain a circular shape in the closed position of the ring by its continuity with the circular portion 2A of the end 21.
- the presence of the linear portion 2B imposes an elastic effect on the ring 2' during unlocking.
- This linear portion 2B makes it possible, during unlocking, to effectively contribute to the ejection of the second end 21 from the locking means 4. Its linear shape goes against the arrangement circular imposed on the ring in the closed position. Thus, when the second end 21 detaches from the locking means 4, this linear portion 2B, to which a curved shape has been imposed in the stress position, then immediately tends to return to its straight rest shape. The linear portion 2B, on returning to the rest state, imposes a spacing of the end 20 carrying the locking means 4, towards the outside of the ring, which contributes to the release of the opposite free end 21 from the locking means 4.
- the detection means 5 are fixed at the proximal part 22 of the ring, in particular on a portion of the circular part 2A, substantially at the junction of the latter with the linear part 2B.
- the detection means 5 are fixed on the outside of the ring, opposite the interior space of the ring which accommodates the container.
- the main body 2 comprises at its end 21 intended to cooperate with the locking means 4, and on its outer face, a crenellated surface 26 forming a series of indentations.
- the indentations 27 form grooves which are intended to cooperate in the closed position of the anti-theft device 1, with teeth which are internal to the locking means 4.
- the locking means 4 comprise a locking system known per se and as described for example in the patent EP2734696B1
- the locking system is housed in a rigid casing 40, preferably made of the same plastic material as that of the main body 2.
- the casing 40 projects outwards relative to the main body 2.
- the casing 40 has an inlet orifice 41 and an outlet orifice 42, adjoining the outer surface of the body of the ring, for respectively the insertion and outlet of the crenellated or indented portion 27 of the ring 2'.
- the locking system is provided with a notched locking part movable in translation, the teeth of the locking part being intended to cooperate with the indentations 27 of the main body 2.
- the face 43 of the casing 40, opposite the main body 2 is intended to cooperate with a standard anti-theft device detaching tool (generally called a detacher, and formed of a powerful magnet) to attract the locking part, internal to the locking means, and release the indented portion 27 in order to eject the second end 21 of the main body 2.
- a standard anti-theft device detaching tool generally called a detacher, and formed of a powerful magnet
- the detection means 5 of the anti-theft device 1 comprise a housing 50 in which is housed a detection system which is not described in more detail here because its operation is known.
- the housing 50 is rigid and is associated with the circular portion 2A or the proximal part 22 of the main body 2, on the outside thereof.
- the detection system 5 is capable of triggering a remote alarm of the radiofrequency type such as RFID or magneto-acoustic.
- the housing 50 is made of the same plastic material as that of the main body 2 and is obtained by joint molding with the main body 2.
- the housing 50 may furthermore form means for identifying/displaying/locating prices or a price range for the item with which the anti-theft device is intended to be associated.
- the housing 50 constitutes a support for displaying or printing a price or a price range, and/or by its color provides a means for locating a price range.
- the entire main body 2 is the same color as the housing 50.
- the main body 2 comprises integrally on its outer face a lug 28 and arranged near the detection means 5, between the latter and the second free end 21 of the main body 2.
- the lug 28 extends substantially orthogonally to the main body 2. It has a substantially curved shape with a concavity 29 facing the housing 50. This lug 28 facilitates the gripping of the ring 2', and its manipulation with one hand to tighten the ring and lock it around the container.
- the anti-theft device 1 has been described with a circular shape of the ring 2', but the main body 2 could have another geometry, for example rectangular to cooperate with rectangular cans. Whatever the geometry of the main body 2, the latter has fixing hooks 3 to cooperate with the bead 11 of a container.
