Definitions

  • the invention relates to a fan coil unit , that is to say, a ventilated unit for treating ambient air for summer and winter air-conditioning .
  • the known ventilated internal air treatment units are constituted substantially by the following components :
  • This group may include a fan of the centri fugal type ( intake from the centre o f the impeller and delivery conveyed by a suitable helical di f fuser in a precise direction) , tangential type ( intake of the fluid streams tangential to the diameter of the impeller, with dynamic acceleration of the air flow, by means of the principle of the central vortex with a "cut-of f" zone ) , radial centri fugal type ( central intake of the air and di f fusion over the entire external circumference of the impeller or over an arc with the same circumference ) , axial type ( intake at a side of the impeller and di f fusion at the opposite side ) ;
  • a heat exchanger for primary fluid/air which is generally of the finned type ;
  • a carrier structure which is made from sheet metal or plastics material and which serves to anchor the abovedescribed components and to ensure the fixing or support of the apparatus on a wall , on the roof or on the floor, a metal or plastics material cabinet for the aesthetic covering of the carrier structure and for closing the internal pipes of the air .
  • the external covering has only one functional obj ective and may be replaced by plates or simple panels made from plastics material ;
  • ventilated air treatment units are described in the patent documents EP1698863 , DE3828011 and W02017 / 173001 .
  • the main limitation which prevents the dimensions from being reduced and in particular the depth of a ventilated internal air treatment unit results from the known shapes of the ventilation group and the relevant pipe which conveys the air to the heat exchanger .
  • a radial centri fugal fan which does not have a helix i s instead used in some solutions for fan coil units which are constructed by LG Electronics (for example , the model ASNW0963WB0 or the like ) .
  • the heat exchange battery is arranged upstream of the fan, close to the central intake opening thereof .
  • the depth dimension of the fan coil unit is encumbered by the dimensions of both the fan and the heat exchange battery and cannot therefore be reduced to the desired dimensions .
  • the problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a fan coil unit which i s structurally and functionally configured to allow the disadvantages set out with reference to the cited prior art to be overcome .
  • an obj ect of the invention is to combat the problem of a drastic reduction in dimensions , mainly with reference to the depth which is measured as the distance between the two greater walls of the housing of the fan coil unit .
  • the obj ects of the invention further include the obj ective of providing a fan coil unit with a thickness which is limited so as to be able to be readily combined with a conventional static radiator without substantially changing the assembly conditions thereof .
  • This problem is solved and other obj ects are achieved by the invention via an internal air treatment unit which i s constructed according to one or more of the features set out in the appended claims .
  • an internal air treatment unit comprises a box-shaped housing with greater front and rear walls which are opposite and spaced apart from each other and which are closed peripherally by peripheral sides .
  • a fan which is preferably of the centri fugal/radial type without any helix type di f fuser and with reversed vanes , is supported in the housing with a rotation axis which is substantially perpendicular to at least one of the greater walls .
  • the fan comprises an impeller with reversed vanes but does not have a helix type di f fuser which closes the impeller .
  • a heat exchange battery is arranged in the housing which comprises in turn at least one inlet opening for the air to be treated and at least one outlet opening for the treated air .
  • the fan and the at least one heat exchange battery are mounted in the housing in order to be sequentially involved by the air flow generated by the fan through the inlet and outlet openings , and the heat exchange battery is mounted between the front wall and rear wall close to one of the peripheral sides , and is orientated so as to be coplanar relative to the front wall or inclined with respect to the front wall at an angle less than or equal to 90 ° , and more advantageously between 10 ° and 30 ° .
  • the heat exchange battery is mounted in the housing with a spaced-apart relationship from the fan so as not to overlap it .
  • the outlet opening is formed at the peripheral side close to the battery or at the front side and the inlet opening is formed in one of the greater walls , preferably the front wall . It is further pre ferable for the peripheral sides with the possible exception of the side involved by the outlet opening to be closed so that the housing constitutes a di f fuser of the fan .
  • the fan i s arranged in the housing in such a manner that the front wall , the rear wall and the peripheral sides which are not involved by the outlet opening are struck by the air flow generated by the fan, in particular generated by the impeller of the fan, and convey this air flow from the inlet opening to the heat exchange battery .
  • this solution makes the use of a centri fugal fan provided with a di f fuser superfluous because it is in fact constructed from a portion of the housing .
  • the front and rear walls and the peripheral sides together delimit a chamber of the housing .
  • the chamber is a single chamber and receives both the fan and the heat exchange battery .
  • the fan and the heat exchange battery are therefore received in the same chamber .
  • the chamber of the internal air treatment unit is delimited exclusively by the front wall , the rear wall and the peripheral sides .
  • the internal air treatment unit is not provided with a dividing wall (having an opening or not ) which separates the chamber into two subchambers which have dimensions such that one receives the fan and the other receives the heat exchange battery .
  • the housing is formed so as to constitute the single flow guide which conveys and deflects the air flow which is generated by the fan, in particular by the impeller of the fan, to the heat exchange battery .
  • the housing is configured as a quadrilateral , more preferably the housing is rectangular .
  • the front wall , the rear wall and the peripheral sides of the housing are constituted by rectangular panels .
  • the heat exchange battery is substantially prismatic with a rectangular cross-section and is mounted in the outlet opening in such a manner that the diagonally opposite vertex sides thereof are substantially in contact with the respective greater walls of the housing .
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a first embodiment of a unit of this invention, respectively;
  • FIGS. 3 and 4 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a second embodiment of a unit o f this invention, respectively;
  • FIGS. 5 and 6 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a third embodiment of a unit of this invention, respectively;
  • FIG. 7 and 8 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a fourth embodiment of a unit o f this invention, respectively;
  • FIG. 9 and 10 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a fi fth embodiment of a unit of this invention, respectively;
  • FIG. 11 and 12 are a schematic, perspective view and a cross-section of a sixth embodiment of a unit of this invention, respectively;
  • FIG. 13 is a schematic, perspective view of a fan of the type used in this invention .
  • an internal air treatment unit which is otherwise referred to as a fan coil unit (both the terms will be used as alternatives in this context ) and which comprises a box-shaped housing 2 with greater front walls 3 and rear walls 4 which are opposite and spaced apart from each other and which are closed peripherally by peripheral s ides 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 .
  • a fan 9 i s supported in the housing 2 on the greater rear wall 4 and with a rotation axis X which is substantially perpendicular to both the greater walls .
  • One ( or more ) heat exchange battery/ ies 10 is/are received in the housing 2 close to an outlet opening 11 of the treated air .
  • the heat exchange battery is substantially prismatic with a rectangular cross-section and is mounted in the housing 2 in such a manner that the diagonally opposite vertex sides VI and V2 thereof are substantially in contact with the respective greater walls 3 and 4 of the housing 2 .
  • the heat exchange battery 10 is mounted in the housing 2 with a spaced-apart relationship from the fan 9 so as not to overlap it .
  • an inlet opening 12 for the air to be treated there is provided on the housing 2 an inlet opening 12 for the air to be treated .
  • These openings 11 , 12 , the heat exchange battery 10 and the fan 9 are mounted in the housing 2 with such an arrangement as to be sequentially involved by the air flow generated by the fan through the inlet and outlet openings , as will be better described below .
  • the fan 9 is of the centri fugal/radial type without any helix type di f fuser and with reversed vanes . In a preferred embodiment thereof , it is illustrated in Figure 13 .
  • the impeller of the fan 9 with reversed vanes is designated 9a in the Figures .
  • the fan 9 is arranged in the housing 2 in such a manner that the front wall 3 , the rear wall 4 and the peripheral sides which are not involved by the outlet opening are struck by the air flow which is generated by the fan and convey the above-mentioned air flow from the inlet opening towards the heat exchange battery 10 .
  • the front wall 3 , the rear wall 4 and the peripheral sides which are not involved by the outlet opening therefore form a deflector device which can direct the air flow which i s generated by the impeller 9a to the heat exchange battery 10 .
  • the front wall 3 and rear wall 4 and the peripheral sides 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 together delimit a single chamber 2a of the housing 2 .
  • the chamber 2a receives both the fan 9 and the heat exchange battery 10 .
  • the chamber 2a is delimited exclusively by the front wall 3 , the rear wall 4 and the peripheral sides 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and, therefore , the internal air treatment unit 1 is not provided with a dividing wall which separates the chamber into two sub-chambers which have such dimensions that one receives the fan 9 and the other receives the heat exchange battery 10 .
  • the housing 2 i s formed so as to constitute the single flow guide which conveys and deflects the air flow which is generated by the fan 9 towards the heat exchange battery 10 .
  • the fan 9 that is to say, the impeller 9a of the fan, comprises a rear flange 15 which is closed and a front flange 16 which is provided with a central opening or aperture 17 .
  • the two flanges 15 , 16 are substantially circular and interconnected by a set of vanes with reversed vanes 18 .
  • the front flange may where applicable be omitted .
  • the rear flange 15 has centrally a recessed formation 19 which is also used to at least partially receive a motor 20 with which it is rotated .
  • the motor 20 is attached in a manner known per se in order to be supported on the rear wall 4 of the housing 2 .
  • the heat exchange battery 10 i is mounted close to one of the peripheral sides .
  • it is mounted in the upper peripheral side 5 which is provided to this end with a grate 21 , which acts as an outlet opening for the air ( example o f Figures 1 and 2 ) .
  • the heat exchange battery 10 is orientated so as to be inclined with respect to the front wall at an angle between 10 ° and 90 ° , and preferably between 10 ° and 30 ° , in such a manner that , as a result of the transverse extent and the cross-section thereof , the battery involves over its entirety the cross-section of the outlet opening 11 between the front wall and rear wall 3 , 4 .
  • the longitudinal dimension of the heat exchange battery 10 is such as to substantially involve over its entirety the same outlet opening 11 to the extent de fined between the j uxtapositioned peripheral sides 6 and 8 .
  • FIG. 3 to 11 illustrate respective embodiments of the invention, in which the fan coil unit i s installed on the wall but has the outlet opening for the air directed downwards , or is installed in the roof with the outlet opening lateral , or is installed in the roof with the outlet opening and the inlet opening both at the front wal l , and finally it is installed on the wall with the inlet opening and outlet opening integrated in the opposite longitudinal sides at the bottom and top .
  • similar details are denoted using the same reference numerals .
  • the battery in the case of an outlet opening in the front portion, can also be positioned in a co-planar manner with respect to the front wall and close thereto , thereby leaving a space from the rear wall , thereby al lowing it to be passed through transversely by the air which i s moved by the fan 9 .
  • the heat exchange battery 10 has under it a tray 23 for receiving and conveying any condensed water .
  • the inlet opening is formed in the lower portion of the unit and the outlet opening is formed at the upper peripheral side 4
  • the lower peripheral side is closed and the air drawn in by the fan 9 is directed to the aperture thereof via a gap 25 which is defined between the front wall 3 and a baf fle 26 which is spaced apart therefrom in the direction of the front flange 16 of the fan 9 .
  • the housing is closed at least at three of the peripheral sides thereof and constitutes a di f fuser of the fan 9 .
  • the gap 25 and the baf fle 26 are shown by way of example in Figure 10 .
  • This selection and arrangement o f the components of the unit 1 allows it to be constructed with a depth dimension, which is given by the distance between the greater surfaces , which is extremely small .
  • the reduction in the depth dimension is on average greater than 1 / 3 with respect to conventional fan coil units which thereby result in a better appearance and are easily able to be integrated in any environment and assembly circumstance .
  • this reduction in the dimensions is very suitable for carrying out applications which are combined by combining a static radiator 28 which is conventional per se with a fan coil unit 1 .
  • the static radiator 28 is a radiator of the type used as a heating heater unit .
  • This application is very ef fective for increasing the heating power of the radiator itsel f and for adding the function o f cooling and dehumidi fying which is carried out by means o f the fan coil unit 2 .
  • the solution in addition to the cooling in summer, is further suitable for applications in which the heat exchange fluid is at a relatively low temperature .
