Definitions

  • the invention relates to a roller for guiding a film web and for subjecting the film web to an at least partially radially inwardly directed force.
  • the task of such rotating rollers is to guide a running film web, in particular a film web that consists of plastic or at least includes plastic, and to hold it firmly on its peripheral surface.
  • the roller comprises openings in its peripheral surface, which are acted upon by a negative pressure provided by a negative pressure source.
  • the film web is sucked up to the peripheral surface.
  • the object of the present invention is therefore to propose a roller and a method with which damage to the film web can be minimized.
  • the tendency of the film web to move relative to the peripheral surface of the roll is further reduced. This is done by applying another force that further increases the total radially inward force acting on the foil.
  • the roller is designed to avoid damage.
  • the roller is in particular surface-treated, coated or finished in some other way in order to avoid damage as far as possible if there is a local movement of the film web relative to the peripheral surface.
  • one aspect of the invention provides that the entrainment of air, which the film web entrains at its boundary layers, is avoided.
  • the entrained air gets between the film web and the peripheral surface of the roller, which means that the radially inwardly directed force is reduced.
  • the suction device comprises a suction nozzle which is directed towards the leading edge.
  • the suction nozzle is arranged on a suction body that can be subjected to a negative pressure.
  • the suction nozzle is designed as a bar that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roller.
  • the roller can be arranged within a closed cavity, which comprises slot-shaped openings only for the infeed and outfeed of the film web.
  • This cavity can also be subjected to a negative pressure to minimize the air entrained by the film web.
  • the peripheral surface can be provided with indentations into which the air can get. Less air then remains in the surface areas outside of these depressions, so that the film web adheres better to these surface areas.
  • indentations can be designed as what are known as nano-cross grooves, the widths and/or depths of which are in the nanometer range, ie less than 1 mm.
  • the temperature of the roller and/or the immediate vicinity of the roller above the temperature of the film.
  • the foil can be softened a little with this, so that the static friction is increased, which means that it “sticks” better to the roller.
  • the air temperature in the immediate vicinity can continue to increase compared to the air temperature in the farther away to minimize the ambient air pressure in the vicinity of the roller.
  • the force acting on the foil in the radial direction can be further increased by electrically charging the foil or at least electrically polarizing it.
  • at least one electrode is provided, which is arranged in the area of the angle of wrap of the film web around the roller and/or upstream of it.
  • An electrical voltage can be applied to the film web with such an electrode.
  • the electrode is arranged in the area of the leading edge, so that the film web is already electrically charged or polarized at this edge.
  • the roller can be provided with a coating.
  • An adhesive coating is particularly advantageous, with the molecules of the film web and the molecules of the coating interacting, with this interaction being an attractive interaction.
  • the diameter selected is small, "small” meaning in particular a diameter which is at most 10% of the length of the roller.
  • the roller has a small weight, which reduces deflection of the roller. A deflection would mean that additional air can be dragged in from the film web into the space resulting from the deflection, which reduces the force directed radially inwards.
  • an additional roller can be provided, which presses against the roller from below (relative to the normal direction of gravity).
  • a further advantageous embodiment of the invention comprises at least one element for mechanically pressing the film onto the roller.
  • at least one pressure roller is provided, which can be arranged in the area of the leading edge, but also in the area of the detaching edge. It is advantageous if the pressure roller only touches the film web in the edge area of this works. The edge area of the film web is often severed during later processing of the film web, so that pressing or even pressing the film web against the roller has no disadvantageous effects. If the edge areas of the film web are pressed against the roller, the result is that the areas lying between the edges of the film web are also held firmly.
  • a pressure roller can also extend over the entire width of the film.
  • a pressure belt which touches the film web not only in a line, but in a partial area of the angle of wrap of the film web around the roller.
  • the pressure belt can in turn extend over the entire width of the film web or only act on the edge areas of the film web.
  • a pressure band preferably comprises a metal band which can provide large pressure forces.
  • a device for subsequently reducing damage to the film web can be provided.
  • a heating element can be provided downstream of the roller, with which the film web can be brought to its melting temperature or a higher temperature. It is advantageous if the heating element is located inside a closed box in order to heat the surroundings as little as possible and to heat the film passing through only for a limited period of time.
  • the box and/or the transport speed is designed such that this period is less than 3 seconds, which leads to so-called “ultra-rapid heating", so that only the surfaces of the film are significantly heated.
  • a further aspect of the invention provides for the roller to be designed in such a way that a movement of parts of the film web is made possible. Damage is to be avoided.
  • the roller is coated, the coating being a chrome plating or a plastic coating act.
  • a polymer coating for example with a polytetrafluoroethene, is also conceivable.
  • An alternative or additional coating may include amorphous plastic, often referred to as “diamond-like carbon (DLC)".
  • a laser pulse deposition of thin layers can be used to apply a coating, in which a material evaporated with a laser is deposited on the roller surface.
  • a particularly smooth and solid surface can be produced on the roller.
  • Other methods can also be used to vaporize the material, such as bombarding the still solid material with matter beams (e.g. with ions or electrons) or arc discharge.
  • a pressing element can be provided with which the coating is further solidified.
  • a coating can also include a coat of paint, for example with a textured paint.
  • the aforementioned coatings each serve to provide a very smooth surface of the roller, with the film web not being damaged even when it is moved.
  • a coating can also include nanoparticles, which the film web carries in the manner of knobs. Minor damage to the film web can occur, but due to the size of the nanoparticles, this is not visible and does not affect the further processing of the film web.
  • a surface-processed roller as an alternative or in addition to the provision of a coating.
  • a method that removes material and/or locally displaces it is a pressing method in which high pressure is applied to the roll surface with a pressing member, thereby smoothing the surface of the roll.
  • Surface treatment methods also include mechanical brushing or blasting the surface with a blasting material such as sand or glass beads. The blasting can be done abrasively or non-abrasively.
  • electrochemical or electrolytic polishing with which in particular the roughness in the micro range can be reduced. Ablation by means of laser pulses can serve the same purpose.
  • a coating on a roller can be provided, with a relative movement occurring within the coating.
  • an elastic coating can be provided, such as rubber.
  • this coating is permeable to air in order to allow the negative pressure passed through the openings to pass through.
  • a rubber provided is preferably a porous or a microporous rubber.
  • a rubber, like any other elastic coating, can be perforated or micro-perforated for this purpose.
  • An elastic coating can also include a plastic film.
  • a coating that also has an elastic effect can have a net-like structure, with the individual threads exhibiting a tendency to curl. Local areas of the coating on the surface of the roller or on the surface of the film web can therefore roll off and thus enable the film web to move relative to the roller with little damage.
  • Such a coating could, for example, comprise a structure such as a nylon stocking.
  • Another coating with the effect described above is flocking the roller, with each individual flake allowing a relative movement between the roller and the film web.
  • Another advantageous embodiment for avoiding damage to the film web includes treating the film web and/or the roller during operation.
  • a movement of the film web relative to the roller can be made possible with a lubricant.
  • a lubricant dispenser can be provided upstream of the leading edge, with which a lubricant is continuously applied to the roller and/or the film web, which reaches between the roller and the film web.
  • Such a lubricant then forms in particular a continuous lubricating film.
  • Water in particular in the form of a mist, is preferably provided as the lubricant. It is advantageous if the water is distilled.
  • Treatment of the film web may also include the addition of agents during film manufacture.
  • agents during film manufacture for example, a slip or lubricant or an antiblocking agent can be added to a film.
  • a further advantageous development includes a cooling device with which the film web can be cooled, in particular abruptly.
  • This cooling device is preferably arranged upstream and in particular directly in front of the leading edge. Due to the rapid cooling, the film web can be further solidified, so that its tendency to move relative to the roll decreases.
