Definitions
- the invention relates to a wing or wing with an at least partially inflatable support structure for sports with wind-powered locomotion on water or on land, in which the wing is guided manually via holding elements and/or lines.
- the wing has a canvas spanned by an inflatable leading edge which, in use, forms a leading edge on a windward side, and an inflatable strut which extends rearwardly from the leading edge towards a leech of the canvas on the side opposite the leading edge becomes.
- the front tube in an at least partially inflated state, is bent at least in sections in the direction of the strut to the leech of the canvas.
- the invention described below relates to a wing for carrying out such sports, which can be held by holding elements and/or lines and moved into the desired position.
- the wing can be used both on land in combination with a roller board or on the water together with a water sports board or board or surfboard, with it being held by a person standing on the respective board and moved as required.
- the so-called wng surfing with suitable water sports boards has gained popularity.
- the surfer stands on a board and holds a wing that is otherwise not connected to the board.
- the wing is held with the hands and its alignment varied as required.
- the boards used often have so-called foils or hydrofoils, which are attached to the underside of the board and provide buoyancy while driving, so that the board lifts off the water surface at least temporarily and comparatively high driving speeds can be achieved even at low wind speeds.
- the main components of the inflatable support structure of a wing are a front tube, the windward side of which forms a leading edge when the boat is in motion, and a strut on the lee side of the front tube and extending backwards perpendicular to it as well as a canvas, also called a canopy, which is spanned by the front tube and the strut.
- a wing which is used as a towing kite for kite surfing, is known from DE 10 2016 113 858 A1.
- the wing described has a front tube, a plurality of struts, each of which is inflatable, and a canvas spanned by the front tube and the struts.
- the wing described in this document is characterized in that at least additional stiffening elements are provided, which are integrated into the canvas and arranged perpendicularly to the trailing edge of the canvas.
- US Pat. No. 7,032,864 B2 discloses a wing that can be used for kite surfing, which also has an inflatable supporting structure with a front tube and a plurality of struts extending from the front tube in the direction of the leech of the stretched canvas.
- the struts are integrated into the canvas and the upper boundary wall of the struts partially protrudes over the upper surface of the wing over which the air flows.
- the applicant North Kiteboarding Australasia Ltd., is known to have the “Nova” wing, which has an inflatable support structure with a curved front tube and a strut attached to it, which extends backwards from the front tube and spans a canvas.
- the wing which is available in a variety of sizes, features handles attached to the underside of the strut for adjusting the wing to the desired upwind orientation and a handle on the windward side of the leading edge for easy dragging when surfing the waves of the wing allows.
- the following technical solution is intended to ensure that the support structure moves as little as possible when the pressure acting on the sail surface increases, for example due to a jerky pull-in of the wing or incoming gusts of wind deformed and thus a quick response of the wing, in particular a quick start, short reaction times and precise control for the surfer is made possible.
- the technical solution to be specified should be able to be implemented with comparatively simple means, both in terms of manufacturing complexity and costs.
- the novel design of an inflatable support structure does not increase the weight or the pack size of a wing. Overall, the rigidity of an inflatable support structure should thus be increased while at the same time improving the operating properties of the wing using simple means.
- the invention relates to a wing or wing with an at least partially inflatable support structure for sports with wind-powered locomotion on water or on land.
- the wing has a canvas stretched by a support structure which includes an inflatable leading edge which, in use, forms a leading edge on a windward side, and an inflatable strut which extends rearwardly towards a leech on an opposite side of the leading edge of the leading edge of the canvas and at least nearly perpendicular to the portion of the front tube in which the strut is connected to the front tube.
- the front tube is bent at least in sections at its ends in the direction of the strut in an at least partially inflated state, so that the canvas is surrounded in an arc by the front tube and the ends of the front tube are at an acute angle or at least almost parallel when the wing is in an unloaded state to the longitudinal direction of the strut are aligned.
- the wing is characterized in that a strip element is applied at least in sections in the longitudinal direction of the front tube to a surface of the front tube, with the at least one strip element being arranged above and/or below a plane that divides a cross-sectional profile of the front tube into an upper and a divides the lower half and in which a central longitudinal axis of the front tube runs.
- the at least one strip element is thus arranged, in relation to a cross section of the front tube, between an area facing away from the strut, in which the leading edge is located, and an area facing the strut.
- the flexural rigidity of the inflatable support structure, in particular the front tube is increased in such a way that bending or deformation transverse to the longitudinal direction of the front tube upwards or downwards, i.e. essentially transverse to a plane in which the longitudinal direction of the front tube runs, are made more difficult .
- the underside of a wing is generally understood to be the side that faces the user during normal use of the wing held with both hands to generate a propulsive force caused by the wind, while the top side is the side opposite the underside of the wing is understood.
- a strip element With the aid of a strip element provided according to the invention, the possibility of the front tube bending or buckling, in particular movements of the ends of the front tube with the canvas attached thereto relative to a main plane of extension of the wing, is at least significantly restricted.
- a strip element can be applied to the surface of the front tube in sections or over the entire length of the front tube.
- the at least one strip element running in the longitudinal direction is thus located between and preferably parallel to two imaginary lines also running in the longitudinal direction of the front tube on the surface, one of which runs along the front leading edge and the other in the middle along the rear outflow profile of the front tube.
- the at least one strip element is arranged on the upper or lower side of the front tube, around which the air flows, between the inflow area and the outflow area.
- At least one strip element is fastened to the upper side and the lower side of the front tube.
- the strip element provided according to the invention offers the advantage that bending or deforming the front tube upwards or downwards from the position provided for the intended operation is at least made more difficult. The bending stiffness of the front tube is thus increased. This has the advantage that even with a short-term increase in the sail pressure, for example due to the jerky pulling in of the wing or gusts of wind, the outer ends of the front tube are only bent up or folded up comparatively little, so that an effective transfer of the pressure to the sail is advantageous applied pressure is achieved and the wing is characterized by a quick response and prompt reaction to corresponding changes in sail pressure.
- a strip element is also applied to a surface of the strut, at least in sections in the longitudinal direction.
- the strip element is arranged on the upper and/or lower side of the strut, ie is located on a side of the strut that faces and/or faces away from a surfer during use of the wing in the main use position.
- the strip element contributes to increasing the rigidity of the inflatable support structure of the wing, so that an undesired bending or deformation of the support structure with the canvas attached thereto is reliably prevented or the risk of corresponding movements is at least minimized.
- two or more strip elements running at least approximately parallel are arranged at least in sections on the surface of the front tube and/or the strut.
- At least one of the strip elements located on the front tube and/or the strut is sewn or glued onto the corresponding surface. It is also advantageous if the strip element has a plastic and/or a textile material.
- the strip element has aramid, carbon and/or glass particles and/or fibers.
- appropriate elements such as aramid, plastic or glass
- the strip element has an aluminum borosilicate glass with less than 2% alkali oxides. Such a glass is also referred to as E-glass.
- the strip element is preferably arranged on an outer surface of the front tube or the front tube and the strut. As an alternative or in addition, however, it is generally conceivable to attach corresponding strip elements at least partially to the inner surface that is located within the inflatable cavity of the front tube or the strut.
- the strip element has at least one unidirectional fiber, in particular a carbon or glass fiber.
- a plurality of unidirectional fibers are arranged in or form a strip element.
- a corresponding strip element can in turn be arranged in sections or along the entire length of the front tube or the strut on the inner and/or outer surface.
- a further special embodiment of the invention provides that the front tube and the strut are connected to one another via a handle for manipulating the wing, which is fastened on a surface of the strut and the front tube, the longitudinal direction of the handle being, for example, in the form of a band, strip or Gurts, is not arranged parallel to the longitudinal direction of the strut.
- Two handles are preferably used, which are arranged mirror-symmetrically in relation to the longitudinal axis of the strut.
- the at least one handle is preferably attached to the front tube and the strut in such a way that a cavity is formed at least in sections below the handle.
- At least one loop that can be gripped with one hand and/or a fixed handle is attached to the front tube and/or the strut.
- a loop and/or handle is grasped by the user of the wing during use in order to orient the wing in the desired manner relative to the wind and thus to be able to move and perform the desired maneuvers on land and/or over water.
- there is also a handle on the leading edge in the front area of the front tube which can be used, for example, to handle the wing, in particular to pull the wing behind you when riding down waves.
- a leash to be attached or attachable to the strut and/or the front tube, which line has a loop for attachment to an arm or a leg of an athlete.
- a line or leash represents a safety device that ensures that the wing also with the remains connected to the athlete or the user of the wing if they fall. It is thus ensured that even after a fall, the wing is not removed in an undesired manner by the user, for example a wing surfer.
- At least one fastening element for the detachable fastening of an at least almost inflexible tree is arranged on the strut or on the strut and the front tube.
- a tree can thus be attached to the underside of the wing with the aid of such fastening elements and serves to operate the wing as an alternative or in addition to the hand straps provided accordingly.
- the tree is gripped by the user during use of the wing, similar to the wishbone of a windsurfing rig, in order to influence the position of the wing in a suitable manner and to achieve the fastest possible propulsion and the execution of the desired maneuver.
- shaping elements arranged at least almost parallel to the longitudinal direction of the strut are provided on the canvas or canopy and/or surrounded by the canvas.
- Such shaping elements can in turn be glued or sewn-on strip elements or suitable battens that are attached to the canvas or at least partially inserted into pockets provided for this purpose.
- a desired shape of the canvas, in particular in the area of the leech, is produced in a preferred manner with the aid of such shaping elements.
- Fig. 3 Cross-sectional view of a front tube
- Fig. 4 Cross-sectional representation of a strut.
- wing 1 shows a special use of a wing 1 designed according to the invention, which is used here for wing surfing or wing foiling.
- the athlete stands on a water sports board 12, here a foil board, on the underside of which a foil or Hydrofoil is attached, which provides buoyancy when the water sports board 12 moves, so that the board 12 stands out together with the surfer from the water surface when a certain driving speed is reached.
- the water sports enthusiast holds a wing 1 designed according to the invention by the hand straps 6 arranged on the strut 3 in such a way that a propulsive force is achieved due to a suitable alignment of the wing 1 to the oncoming wind.
- the wing 1 There is no connection between the wing 1 and the board 12, in particular no mast is provided, but the water sportsman himself makes the connection between the water sports board 12 and the wing 1.
- the direction of travel can be changed and desired maneuvers can be performed.
- the wing 1 is partially pulled towards him, particularly when starting, by the surfer, which means that the pressure on the sail increases for a short time and the starting process is accelerated and stabilized.
- the wing 1 in particular its inflatable support structure consisting of front tube 2 and strut 3, deforms in such a way that the ends of the front tube 2 with the canvas 4 attached to it rise , bend away from the surfer, which reduces the effectiveness of the power transmission between the oncoming wind and the wing 1, which in turn has a negative effect on the starting behavior and responsiveness.
- Such deformations of the support structure, in particular bends executed by the ends of the front tube 2 are prevented or at least minimized with the solution according to the invention, as will be described below.
- the wing 1 shown in FIG. 1 has the three essential main components front tube 2, strut 3 and canvas 4 or canopy.
- the sailcloth 4 is stretched out while the wing 1 is in use by the front tube 2, which has a leading edge on the windward side 8, and the strut 3, which extends backwards on the leeward side 9 in the direction of the leech 10 of the sailcloth 4.
- several hand straps 6 are provided on the underside of the strut 3, which can be gripped by the user as required.
- the strut 3 and the front tube 2 there are two handles 11 designed as loops.
- FIG. 2 shows both a front view of the leading edge 7 of the front tube and a plan view of the undersides of two wings 1 provided for WNG surfing with an inflatable support structure
- Fig. 2a showing the front view of the leading edge 7 of the front tube 2 and shows the underside of a wing 1 known from the prior art
- FIG. 2b shows the front view of the leading edge of the front tube 2 and the underside of a wing 1 designed according to the invention is.
- the wing 1 according to FIG Length of the front tube 2 extends from one end to the other.
- the underside of a wing or a front tube is generally understood to be the side that faces the user during normal use of the wing held with both hands, while the top side is understood to be the side of the wing 1 or the front tube 2 opposite the underside .
- a wing 1 As soon as a wing 1, as shown in Fig. 2a, is subjected to a pressure force from below during use, for example because a user pulls the wing 1 jerkily towards him or a gust of wind blows in, the inflatable support structure with the canvas 4 deforms mainly due to a bending of the front tube 2, as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 2a.
- the outer ends of the front tube 2 with the attached canvas 4 move upwards.
- This unfolding of the wing 1 reduces the effectiveness of the power transmission between the wind and the wing 1 , since part of the air flow impinging on the underside of the wing 1 flows out laterally on the wing 1 via the ends of the front tube 2 .
- a wing 1 with an inflatable support structure according to the invention shown in FIG. 2b it is ensured that such upward bending or deformation of the outer ends of the wing 1 is prevented or at least significantly minimized.
- the rigidity of the support structure of the inflatable wing 1 is significantly increased due to the provision of strip elements 5 on the top and bottom of the front tube 2, so that a significantly more effective power transmission is ensured.
- a user of this wing 1 can make changes in speed and direction much faster and more precisely, because the wing 1 reacts directly to changes in the sail pressure and the sail alignment.
- FIG. 3 shows a perspective representation of the view of section “AA” drawn in FIG. 2b. It is clear here that the strip elements 5 running in the longitudinal direction of the front tube 2 and here glued to the surface are arranged both on the upper side and on the underside of the front tube 2 around which the flow occurs during use. In the representation chosen in FIG. 3, the top of the front tube is at the bottom and the bottom of the front tube is at the top.
- the two strip elements 5 are fastened opposite one another on the top and bottom of the front tube, so that the strip element 5e is both centrally between two imaginary lines which, on the one hand, are the foremost points of the front tube in relation to the cross-sectional profile and on the other hand connect the rearmost points of the front tube in relation to the cross-sectional profile, and are also arranged at least almost parallel to these imaginary lines.
- the profile of the front tube 2 the provision of corresponding strip elements 5, which are either glued or sewn on, significantly increases the rigidity of the front tube 2, in particular its flexural rigidity with regard to bends that are carried out transversely to a plane spanned by the strip elements 5.
- FIG. 4 the section B-B drawn in FIG. 2b through a strut 3 is shown in perspective views. Again, in the illustration chosen, the top of the strut 3 is at the bottom and the bottom of the strut 3 is at the top.
- 4a, 4b and 4c show different embodiments for the arrangement of strip elements 5 on a strut 3 of a wing 1 designed according to the invention with an inflatable support structure. 4 thus shows a cross section of a strut 3, with the different embodiments according to FIGS 3 are arranged on its surface.
- These strip elements 5 can be glued or sewn on.
- FIG. 4a shows an embodiment in which two strip elements 5 are provided, which run in the longitudinal direction of the strut and are arranged centrally on the top and bottom of the strut 3.
- FIG. 4a shows an embodiment in which two strip elements 5 are provided, which run in the longitudinal direction of the strut and are arranged centrally on the top and bottom of the strut 3.
- FIG. 4a shows an embodiment in which two strip elements 5 are provided, which run in the longitudinal direction of the strut and are arranged centrally on the top and bottom of the strut 3.
- FIG. These strip elements 5 achieve a significant increase in the flexural rigidity in relation to deformations or bending of the strut 3 upwards or downwards. Overall, these strip elements 5 therefore lead to a further increase in the rigidity of an inflatable support structure for a wing 1 designed according to the invention.
- strip elements 5 are provided in the embodiment according to FIG. 4b, one of which is arranged on the upper side and two on the underside of the strut 3.
- the strip elements 5 on the underside run eccentrically in the longitudinal direction of the strut 3 , while the strip element 5 arranged on the upper side is in turn arranged centrally in the longitudinal direction of the strut 3 .
- Such an orientation of the strip elements 5 not only increases the rigidity in relation to bending of the strut 3 upwards or downwards, but also leads to an increase in the torsional rigidity.
- FIG. 4c A third special embodiment for the attachment of strip elements 5 on the strut 3 is shown in FIG. 4c.
- a total of four strip elements 5 are provided on the surface of the strut, with two strip elements 5 on the underside and two on the upper side in the longitudinal direction of the strut 3, each off-center with respect to an imaginary parallel to the longitudinal center axis on the surface in the area of the upper or the underside running line are arranged.
- Such an arrangement of the strip elements 5 achieves a considerable increase in both the flexural and torsional rigidity.
- strip elements 5 running in the longitudinal direction of these elements are arranged on the surface of the front tube 2 or both the front tube 2 and the strut 3 Increase the flexural rigidity and / or torsional rigidity and thus the rigidity of the entire inflatable support structure of a generic wing 1 cause.
- Corresponding strip elements 5 are preferably glued and/or sewn onto the surface of the front tube 2 or of the front tube 2 and the strut 3 .
- an increase in the rigidity of an inflatable support structure of a wing 1 can be achieved with comparatively simple means, so that a particularly effective power transmission between wind and wing 1 is ensured and a wing 1 therefore reacts very quickly and precisely to changed flow conditions.
