Definitions
- the present invention relates to a container for in-vitro plant cultivation according to the preamble of claim 1, and a method for in-vitro plant cultivation.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a container for in vitro plant cultivation, which improves the handling of the container when, in particular, automatically transplanting plants. Another task is to specify a procedure in this regard.
- the bottom of the lower part is divided into respective cell bottoms by the adjacent grid and/or the grid has its own floor with respective cell bottoms, the respective cell bottoms being flexible and/or pierceable in the direction of the cell interior and/ or the floor can be at least partially removed from the lower part or the grid.
- the flexibility and/or pierceability of the cell bases and/or the removal of the base from the lower part or the grid make it possible to lift the newly formed plants on the nutrient medium out of the grid using plungers acting underneath and to at least partially push them upwards, so that they can be grasped more easily and can be transplanted into a next rearing and/or cultivation container, for example a rearing tray.
- the cells contain a nutrient medium that solidifies into (agar) plugs, for example gelling agar-agar, or porous plugs made of eg rock wool or foamed material that absorb the nutrient medium, so that the plants grow together with their respective plugs on which they have grown , lifted and at least partially pushed out of the grid upwards.
- the plantlets can be gripped more easily using the plugs and, in particular, can be transplanted together with the plugs onto a subsequent substrate. This can then be done in particular automatically using transplanting machines, which remove the plugs with the plants from the grid, preferably in rows.
- transplanting machines which remove the plugs with the plants from the grid, preferably in rows.
- the bottom of the base or the grid can remain closed until immediately before transplanting, so that contamination by any falling or adhering nutrient medium is avoided. This significantly improves and simplifies handling of the container and ensures a clean working environment. If the flexibility and/or pierceability of the cell bases and/or the removal of the base on the lower part of the container is achieved, the previously required removal of the grid from the lower part can be omitted. Transplanting can be done directly from the container in a way that is gentle on the plants.
- the cup-shaped lower part with the grid contained therein can also be handled more easily, in particular automatically, than a grid removed from the lower part.
- a grid that can be removed from the lower part can also be handled better and, in particular, automatically if the grid is closed with its own flexible and/or pierceable and/or removable base.
- the grid extends upwards from the floor, with the grid walls preferably tapering upwards.
- the plugs can be lifted and removed more easily from the conically expanded cells.
- the grid can be a separate grid insert, which can be arranged in the lower part, preferably directly adjacent to the bottom of the lower part and can preferably be fixed in the lower part, for example by means of a positive connection such as a latching connection.
- the cell size and the number of cells in the container depend in particular on the type of plant and is particularly tailored to the number of uses of the subsequent cultivation tray.
- the cells which are preferably square in shape, have a width of 5 to 50 mm and a height of 5 to 50 mm, enclosing a cell volume of 0.125 to 125 ml.
- Flexibility is to be interpreted in such a way that at least a section of the respective cell base can be deformed into the cell interior by a few millimeters, preferably by more than 5 mm, relative to the adjacent grid in the push-out direction, while the remaining lower part or grid is essentially dimensionally and dimensionally stable behaves.
- the situation is analogous with the perforability, in which the respective cell bottoms of preferably Plungers with cutting edges can be pierced comparatively easily and, above all, in a targeted manner and limited to the respective cell base, with the pestles, which preferably move continuously, being able to push the plants out of the cells immediately after being pierced.
- the flexibility and/or puncturability and/or peelability may be provided by a film-like, 45 to 200 pm thick base.
- the preferably multi-layered film can contain a foamed, micro-perforated and/or a membrane layer. Due to its flexibility, the base is reversibly deformable, so that the container can be used multiple times in in-vitro plant cultivation.
- the flexibility and/or pierceability of the base is coordinated with the lattice structure, so that the respective cell bases deform essentially point-symmetrically or tear open in the middle when punctured.
- the floor within the cells can have a thinner wall thickness than in areas immediately adjacent to the grid. Sufficient flexibility or easy penetration of the cell bases can also be achieved by the base being made of a different, in particular more elastic or brittle, plastic than the other lower part, whereby the lower part can be produced using 2K injection molding.
- the container consisting of the lower part and the upper part as well as the grid is preferably made entirely of a preferably identical transparent plastic, such as polypropylene (PP) or polystyrene (PS), so that plant growth can be visually controlled, especially through the soil.
- the lower part has a flange and/or apron-shaped peripheral edge, which can be arranged at the end opposite the bottom or laterally on the side wall and with which a peripheral edge on the upper part cooperates to seal the container in a media-tight manner.
- a gas-permeable membrane can be inserted in the upper part, preferably in its lid.
- the grid is connected in one piece to the lower part.
- the grid is therefore not a separate component, but rather an integral part of the lower part and is therefore integrated into the lower part in a captive and, in particular, fixed position.
- the grid does not float and does not need to be particularly fixed for transport.
- the bottom of the lower part is at least partially connected to the grid to form cells that are closed on the bottom, whereby mutual rooting of the plants is prevented and the plugs with the newly formed plants can be gently removed from the lower part of the container and transplanted.
- the bottom is formed by a label.
- the label punched out of a thin film can be glued or sealed to the lower part or grid produced with an open base by injection molding or thermoforming, or can be integrated into the further lower part or grid as an in-mold label (IML) in injection molding.
- the film can be a multilayer film and contain a foamed, microperforated and/or a membrane layer.
- the label preferably has at least one grip tab, via which the label can be easily removed from the lower part or the grid at least partially.
- the plugs can be easily pushed out of the cells of the grid that are exposed on the underside.
- the respective cell bases of the lower part or the grid have in particular (pre-)embossed thin spots.
- the cell bases tear open in the thin areas. This also makes it possible to punch out the cell bottoms.
- hinges can be formed in the cell bottoms through thin spots, through which the opened cell bottoms remain connected to the further lower part or grid and not together with the plugs be removed.
- the thin spots can be formed by appropriately designed tool molds and/or can be formed by embossing carried out after or integrated with the injection molding and/or can be pre-embossed in a label forming the base.
- the cell bottoms are convex and/or concave when viewed from below.
- the basic shape of the cell bottoms is particularly convex, so that there are rounded plugs that can be inserted more easily into a subsequent substrate.
- the convex basic shape of the flexible cell bottoms can be changed into a concave shape using plungers, whereby the plugs are first lifted and thus released from the cells without the cell bottoms tearing open. The cell bottoms can then be pierced for a second further lifting. Alternatively, if the plugs can be removed the first time they are lifted, the cell bases can be pushed back into their basic convex shape without causing damage. Concentric to the convex basic shape, a small central section of the cell base can be concave, so that a receiving section that centers the plunger is provided.
- the walls of the grid delimiting the cells have recesses.
- the recesses provided particularly in the upper region of the cell walls form overflow channels, whereby agar filled in one or a few places can be distributed evenly over the cells.
- the (agar) plugs that then solidify are only connected via the narrow webs of the overflow channels, which easily tear off when the plugs are removed.
- the side wall of the lower part is raised relative to the grid, with at least a section of the side wall being reduced in height and/or reducible and/or openable.
- the side wall which is raised compared to the grid, creates a protected space for the newly forming plants.
- the raised side wall supports the still weak plants laterally.
- the height-reduced and/or reducible and/or openable side wall is preferably opened or can be opened on one side of the lower part up to the height of the grid, so that lateral access to the plants or plants that are preferably at least partially pushed out of the grid is possible. Plugs are given, while the plants continue to be supported by the other side wall.
- Transplanting machines in particular can thus grasp the plants or plugs more easily and automatically and remove them from the lower part without the grid having to be removed from the lower part beforehand.
- the height-reduced and/or reducible and/or openable side wall also makes it easier to remove a separate grid, preferably with its own base, since the grid can be grabbed directly from the side without reaching between the plants from above to have to.
- the height reduction of the side wall is based on a plane parallel to the bottom of the lower part, in which an uppermost edge of the side wall lies.
- the upper edge of the side wall can subsequently be inclined relative to this plane and/or locally offset downwards, in particular after the height of the side wall has been reduced.
- the upper part has a correspondingly high side wall.
- the at least one section of the side wall can be at least partially separated from the side wall.
- the at least one section of the side wall can be completely separated and thus removed from the lower part.
- the dividing lines can be defined by thin spots.
- An articulated connection with the further lower part can remain, so that the relevant side wall section can be folded out like a door or flap.
- the at least one section of the side wall is formed by an upper, circumferential side wall part, which is removably attached to a lower side wall part.
- the upper side wall part which is particularly gas-tightly connected to the lower side wall part, can be separated and removed from the lower side wall part by a removable separating strip.
- the dividing line can be formed by a groove-shaped depression that can be easily severed and in particular provides a guide for a cutting knife.
- the upper side wall part can be connected in one piece to the lower side wall part via a shoulder and enclose it in an apron shape. The upper side wall part can thus be punched in the area of the shoulder relative to the lower side wall part or can be pressed down in a simple manner if predefined tear lines are present.
- the respective dividing line or shoulder is preferably approximately at the height of the grid.
- the upper side wall part can be a separate component which can be fixed to the side wall of the lower part in a media-tight and releasable manner.
- a flange and/or skirt-shaped edge of the lower part lies in an edge plane which runs at an acute angle to the standing plane of the container.
- the standing level is defined by the bottom of the lower part or by at least one stand.
- a complementary upper part has an edge plane which runs at an acute angle to the lid plane, so that the container composed of the lower and upper parts in turn forms a support surface parallel to the standing plane for another container to be stacked.
- the bottom of the lower part is formed by a removable sealing film. From the cells that can be opened at the bottom, the plugs can be lifted out of the grid using plungers that retract from below and at least partially pushed out, so that they are easier to grab from the side.
- the method according to the invention comprises the steps:
- the method provides that the introduced nutrient medium solidifies into (agar) plugs and/or is absorbed by porous plugs inserted in the cells and that the plants are pushed out and gripped via the plugs.
- the method provides that at least a portion of the side wall of the lower part is reduced and/or opened during or after opening the container.
- the method provides that after opening the container, a separate grid with its own base is removed from the container, so that the plants outside the container are pushed out of the grid upwards.
- the method provides that the plants or plugs are placed underneath on the bottom of the lower part or removed from the container Grid attacking plungers are at least partially pushed upwards out of the cells by the plungers deforming and / or piercing the respective cell bottoms due to their flexibility or the bottom was previously at least partially removed from the lower part or the grid.
- Fig. 1 shows a lower part provided with a grid
- Fig. 2 shows a detail of the bottom of the lower part in a first embodiment
- Fig. 4 shows a grid provided with its own base
- FIG. 5 - 7 sectional views of the lower part with different floor designs
- FIG. 8 - 14 different embodiments of the container.
- a grid 6 is integrated into the lower part 2 shown in FIG. 1, which divides the receiving space 8, which is limited by a base 4 and a side wall 5, into individual cells 7.
- the grid 6, which is connected in one piece to the lower part 2, has recesses 10 in its walls as overflow channels, whereby low-viscosity agar introduced into the receiving space 8 can be distributed evenly over the cells 7 as a nutrient medium before it solidifies into (agar) plugs 16.
- the filling height is at the level of the upper edges of the grid 6 or slightly below, so that the plugs 16 are connected to one another at most by the narrow webs in the recesses 10, which tear off easily when the plugs 16 are removed.
- the Lower part 2 has a flange-shaped peripheral edge 9, on which an upper part 3 can be fixed in a media-tight manner.
- FIGS. 2 and 3 show first and second embodiments of the lower part 2, in which the base 4 or the individual cell bases delimited by the grid 6 can be pierced by specifically formed thin areas 13, 14, as shown in FIG .
- a plunger 17 is pressed from below against the respective cell base 18, which tears open at the thin spots 13, 14 when a certain pressure force is exceeded.
- the plunger 17 can penetrate further into the cell 7 in question and push the plug 16 with the plant 15 formed on it out of the grid 6 to such an extent that a gripper of a transplanting machine, not shown, can grasp the plug 16 laterally and pull it out of the grid 6.
- Fig. 4 shows a separate grid 6, which can be arranged in a container and removed from it again at the end of a cultivation phase.
- the grid 6 is closed on the underside with a label 11 forming its own base 11.
- the label 11 is attached as a sealing film to the lower edges of the grid 6. It can be removed from the further grid 6 via a grip tab 12 projecting to the side.
- the cells 7 are then opened at the bottom and the plunger 17 can push the plug 16 with the plant 15 formed on it out of the grid 6, as shown in FIG. 6.
- FIG. 7 shows convexly shaped cell bases 19, with a central section being concavely shaped concentrically to the convex basic shape as a centering receiving section for the plunger 17 pressing against it.
- the cell bases 19 are flexible, so that the plunger 17 can transform the respective cell base 19 into a concave shape without destroying the cell base 19.
- the plugs 16 are removed from the relevant cells 7 and raised relative to the grid 6.
- the lower part 2 stands over installation webs 20.
- the embodiments of the container 1 consisting of a lower part 2 and an upper part 3 shown in FIGS. 8 - 14 can in particular be combined with the bottom versions of the lower part and grid described above.
- a generally flat lower part 2 as shown in FIG correspondingly large space for the forming plants 15 encloses.
- the upper part 3 With an edge 23 opposite the lid 22, the upper part 3 can be secured to the edge 9 of the lower part 2 in a media-tight manner.
- the upper part 3 is removed from the lower part 2.
- FIG. 9 shows a lower part 2 in which the side wall 5 extends upwards on three sides beyond the peripheral edge 9, so that the plants 15 are still supported laterally even when the upper part 3 is removed.
- the fourth side which is not pulled up or is reduced in height, forms a lateral opening 25 through which a gripper of a transplanting machine can enter the lower part 2 and directly grasp and remove the grid 6 or the plants.
- such an opening 25 is created in that a wall piece 26 can be removed from a high circumferential side wall 5.
- the associated upper part 3 has a significantly lower side wall 21.
- 11a shows a lower part 2 in which the circumferentially high side wall is divided into a lower side wall part 27 and an upper side wall part 28.
- the two side wall parts 27, 28 are connected to one another in a media-tight manner via a shoulder 32, the shoulder 32 having a tear line at which the connection breaks when the upper side wall part 28 is pressed down relative to the lower side wall part 27.
- the upper side wall part 28 separated from the lower part 2 can be removed or, as shown in FIG. 11b, can accommodate the lower side wall part 27.
- 12 and 13 show a lower part in which an edge 29 is formed which runs at an acute angle to the standing plane.
- the associated upper part 3 has a complementary edge 31, so that the container 1 composed of the lower and upper parts in turn forms a support surface parallel to the standing plane for another container to be stacked.
- the side wall 5 is shaped according to the inclined edge 29, so that there is unhindered access to the grid or the plants located in its cells at least on one side of the lower part.
- the adjoining sides of the side wall 5 rise steadily to the opposite, high side and offer at least partial protection for the plants located in the lower part.
- the plants in the back rows of the grid, which are removed last are adequately supported by the correspondingly high areas of the side wall.
- the plants in the front rows are also well supported laterally, in which a side wall 30 is raised relative to the edge 29 in the area of the inclined edge sections.
- Fig. 14 shows a standard in-vitro container 1 ', from which the grid 6 shown in Fig. 4 and provided with its own base 11 can be removed.
