- Part B comprises the MTMS reactive silane and the acid catalyst.
- Part C includes the solvents, the wetting agent, the flakes, and the PDMS oil.
- Example 1 glitter finishing layer according to the invention
- Part A (colloidal silica for the primary or demineralized water for the finish) is stirred with a shearing blade and a speed of 1,000 rpm, sufficient to obtain a clean vortex.
- Part B is prepared separately by mixing the silane with the acid, then introduced with stirring into part A: the MTMS hydrolysis reaction then begins, and must continue for at least 2 hours.
- part C is introduced into this mixture by incorporating the components one by one, still with stirring. It should be noted that we can also pre-mix all the components of part C separately, before introducing this paste into mixture A+B after the 2 hours of reaction.
- the mixture can also be stored in the refrigerator at 5°C: in this case, its shelf life is increased to at least 72 hours.
- the primary mixture is then filtered with a 50 micron filter before being applied by spray to a sandblasted and degreased aluminum support and previously shaped. The support is preheated to 55°C to avoid any sagging during coating.
- the finish is then filtered with a 90 micron filter, and applied to the wet primary layer.
- the primer will have a dry thickness of 30 to 40 microns, and the finish will have a dry thickness of 3 to 10 microns.
- Comparative Example 2 preparation of a coating including a black sol-gel primer and glitter topcoat with colloidal silica:
- the formulations based on MTMS are included, with a composition and process identical to Example 1 for the primer layer, but with a finishing layer containing colloidal silica.
- Comparative example glitter finishing layer containing silica
