Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for operating a labeling system according to the preamble of claim 1 and to a labeling system with a labeling device according to the preamble of claim 13.
- the labeling system in question here has at least one labeling device, which is designed in particular as a price labeling device.
- the labeling device is equipped with, among other things, a weighing arrangement, a dispensing arrangement and an application arrangement for labels as functional units, which are intended for labeling the individual packages.
- a printer arrangement is provided for printing the labels, whereby the printing can also take place depending on a weight value determined by means of the weighing arrangement.
- parameters such as the operating time of the labeling device or the number of resources used, for example the number of strips of label material used, are used as a benchmark to record the labeling processes carried out by the labeling devices. On the basis of these parameters, further process planning can be carried out and the costs incurred in operating the labeling devices can also be billed.
- parameters such as the operating time of the labeling device or the number of material strips used can only be used to determine the number of labeling processes actually carried out approximately.
- the number of labels successfully applied can vary considerably during operation. In addition to different workloads and process speeds, errors can occur during labeling processes, which means that the number of labels used does not necessarily match the number of labels successfully applied.
- the invention is based on the problem of specifying a method for operating a labeling system that allows a largely accurate recording of the labeling processes.
- the above problem is solved by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1.
- the fundamental consideration is that the functional units of the labeling devices have sensors to monitor operation, which determine operating values related to the labeling process. In addition to controlling the functional units, the operating values can be used to check whether a labeling process was successful. Based on the test, counter information is created in which only the labeling processes classified as successful are taken into account. The counter information can therefore be used for improved resource planning and billing.
- the preferred embodiment according to claim 2 therefore relates to operating values of an applicator, for example a static applicator and/or a pendulum stamp, of the application arrangement, which are checked using the final criterion.
- Operating values to be preferably used for the final criterion are the subject of claim 3.
- a feed arrangement is provided for transporting the packages, the operating values of which can be included in the completion criterion.
- a sufficient match between the feed speed and an application speed of the applicator can be a prerequisite for successful application.
- a label sensor is provided for detecting the applied label, so that the result of the labeling process can be determined in a simple and reliable manner.
- the use of a barcode scanner according to the embodiment according to claim 6 is particularly preferred here, whereby the labeling process can be easily assessed by detecting and checking a barcode on the label.
- the print image produced by printing or an alignment of the label achieved by application can also be checked on the basis of the label sensor, for example a camera, which is the subject matter of claim 7.
- Claim 8 relates to the use of a printer sensor of the printer arrangement, whereby faulty printing processes can be detected based on the operating values of the printer arrangement.
- labeling processes with incorrectly printed labels are not taken into account in the counter information or are at least marked accordingly.
- the counter information in particular with the associated information mentioned, is stored in a production control system or transmitted to it. This allows a centralized recording of the counter information for several labeling devices.
- a labeling system with a labeling device is claimed, wherein the labeling system is preferably set up to carry out the proposed method.
- the labelling system is set up to check the operating parameters recorded during a respective labelling process for the fulfilment of a specified end criterion representing a successful labelling process and to detect the occurrence of a fulfilled end criterion. to store it in a meter information. Reference may be made to all statements on the proposed procedure.
- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the proposed labeling system for carrying out the proposed method
- FIG. 2 a) to c) schematic views of labels applied and printed in a labeling process.
- the invention relates to a method for operating a labeling system 1.
- the labeling system 1 is equipped with at least one labeling device 2 for labeling individual packages 3, which is designed in particular as a price labeling device.
- the labeling device 2 has a control arrangement 4, which controls functional units of the labeling device 2 (to be explained later) to carry out labeling processes.
- a labeling process a single package 3 is labeled.
- a sequence of labeling processes for a compilation of respective packages 3 takes place in a labeling routine.
- a weighing arrangement 5 of the labeling device 2 is used to determine weight values of the respective package 3.
- the weighing arrangement 5 has a load cell which determines representative, analog and/or digital weight values for the weight of the package 3.
- the weight values are determined in particular on the basis of a deformation measurement of a support for the packages 3, for example via strain gauges, and/or on the basis of an electromagnetic force compensation of the weight of the respective package 3.
- a dispensing arrangement 6 of the labeling device 2 is provided for dispensing a label 7, which can be designed to be detachable from a material strip 8.
- a label 7 detachable from a material strip 8 means in particular a label 7 which can be detachably attached with its adhesive surface to a Carrier strip is attached, which forms the material strip 8 and can consist of paper and/or plastic, for example. It is also possible for the label 7 to be produced by separating a section from a printable or printed material strip 8, for example by cutting and/or tearing the material strip 8.
- labels 7 designed as adhesive labels are used, which already have an adhesive surface by means of which they are detachably attached to the material strip 8.
- the use of adhesive-free labels 7 is also conceivable, which are only provided with an adhesive surface later or are applied to an adhesive surface on the respective package 3.
- a printer arrangement 9 of the labeling device 2 is provided for printing the label 7, wherein the label 7 can in principle be printed on the material strip 8 and/or after the label 7 has been detached from the material strip 8 and before, after or when the label 7 is applied to the respective package 3.
- a printer arrangement 9 set up for thermal printing in particular direct thermal printing or thermal transfer printing, is provided.
- the label 7 is printed depending on the weight values.
- the label 7 is provided with weight information 10 when printed and/or a unit price 12 to be assigned to the package 3 is determined on the basis of a base price 11 and printed on the label 7.
- the labeling device 2 here in a common housing with the dispensing arrangement 6, has an application arrangement 13 as a further functional unit for applying the dispensed label 7 to the respective package 3.
- the dispensed label 7 is preferably picked up by a stamp, which is here and preferably designed as a pendulum stamp 14, and applied to the respective package 3.
- the stamp has a blow head for sucking in and blowing off the label 7.
- the pendulum stamp 14 carries out a movement along a transport direction of the packages 3 during application in order to enable moving packages 3 to be labeled.
- the label 7 can be applied to the package 3 by touching it by pressing the label 7 onto it. Additionally or alternatively, it is conceivable that the label 7 is applied without contact, for example by the blow head of the stamp pressing the label 7 onto the package 3. by generating a blast of compressed air directed towards the packing 3.
- a labelling process for a package 3 comprises at least the actions carried out by the aforementioned functional units controlled by means of the control arrangement 4:
- the labeling process is repeated for several packages 3 in a labeling routine.
- the labeling device 2 and in particular the aforementioned functional units weighing arrangement 5, dispensing arrangement 6, printer arrangement 9 and/or application arrangement 13 have sensors 15 which monitor the functioning of the labeling device 2 and are used as a basis for controlling by means of the control arrangement 4.
- the sensors 15 are used to record operating values which are then used to assess the respective labeling process.
- the completion criterion generally represents a successful labeling process, which is reflected in the operating values. For example, a labeling process is only considered successful if one or more operating values are within a specified value range. Operating values can also directly reflect an error state, whereby the labeling process is only considered successful if such an operating value indicates an error-free labeling process.
- the counter information is indicative of the number of labeling processes that are considered successful according to the test of the completion criterion. In a simple embodiment, the counter information contains a numerical value that is increased incrementally with the occurrence of a fulfilled completion criterion, and thus with the occurrence of a labeling process that is considered successful. It is also conceivable that the counter information records the total number of all labeling processes, whereby the number of labeling processes that are assessed as inadequate because the completion criterion is not fulfilled is deducted from the total number.
- the final criterion relates to operating values of an applicator of the application arrangement 13.
- a static applicator can be provided, wherein the package 3 is moved relative to the applicator to apply the label 7.
- a label 3 adhering to the package 3 can be released from a material strip 8, for example in a rolling movement.
- a static applicator is integrated in the dispensing arrangement 6.
- a movable applicator is provided which is designed to carry out an application movement relative to the pack 3.
- the applicator is designed as a pendulum stamp 14.
- the interaction of the applicator with the package 3 is of particular importance during application.
- the final criterion can relate to the presence of a label 7 on the applicator when the package 3 is loaded by the application arrangement 13.
- the presence can be represented by an operating value.
- the loading of the package 3 here relates to the interaction between the applicator and the package 3, which can be carried out with contact or without contact.
- the final criterion can relate to the application pressure of the applicator.
- the contact pressure of the pack 3 is particularly important. on the applicator is to be understood as application pressure.
- application pressure is understood to mean, for example, the air pressure used by a pendulum stamp 14 designed as a blowing pendulum stamp.
- insufficient negative pressure when sucking on the label 7 and/or insufficient air pressure when blowing off the label 7 can be an indicator of incorrect application of the label 7.
- an application height of the applicator for the respective package 3 in particular the stroke height of the pendulum stamp 14, which affects the position of the applicator relative to the surface of the respective package 3.
- unintentional collisions between the blowing head and the package 3 can also be recognized, so that it can be concluded that the label 7 was inadequately applied or not applied at all.
- a feed arrangement 16 is preferably provided for transporting the respective packages 3.
- the feed arrangement 16 is preferably a belt conveyor or a roller conveyor, possibly also at least one robot arm, for moving the respective packages 3.
- the feed arrangement 16, here the belt conveyor has here and preferably at least one conveyor belt 17, via which the respective packages 3 are transported along a transport direction.
- the labeling process further comprises the action: transporting the respective package 3 by means of the feed arrangement 16 at a feed speed when applying the label 7.
- the completion criterion can relate to a predetermined match between an application speed of the pendulum stamp 14 and the feed speed and/or an alignment of the respective package 3 on the feed arrangement 16.
- a predetermined agreement of the speeds is to be understood in particular as meaning that the difference between the speeds does not exceed a predetermined maximum deviation, which can be a prerequisite for successful application.
- the feed speed can be determined via a motion sensor and/or via drive values such as drive current and drive voltage of the feed arrangement 16.
- the application speed of the pendulum stamp 14 can be the speed of the pendulum stamp 14 in the transport direction at the time of application.
- the alignment of the pack 3 on the feed arrangement 16 relates to the position of the pack 3 and in particular the orientation of the surface of the pack 3 relative to the label 7 to be applied.
- a pack 3 placed at an angle on the feed arrangement 16 can lead to the label 7 being applied with an angular deviation or on the wrong side of the pack 3.
- a pack sensor 18 is provided, which is preferably designed as a camera and determines image data on the packs 3 transported by means of the feed arrangement 16.
- the pack sensor 18 is here and preferably provided in front of the application arrangement 13 in the transport direction.
- the completion criterion can relate to the distance between consecutive packs 3 transported by the feed arrangement 16 and/or the number of packs 3 transported per unit of time. Packs 3 transported on the feed arrangement 16 can be detected by sensors, preferably via a light barrier or the like. If, for example, the distance between the packs 3 is too small for the feed speed, for example when a signature is recorded on a predetermined minimum distance between the packs 3 and in particular when packs 3 are adjacent to one another, it can be assumed that a successful labeling process for at least one of the packs 3 has not taken place.
- the labeling device 2 has a label sensor 19 for the applied, in particular printed, label 7.
- the completion criterion is checked here at least partially based on detection of the label 7 by means of the label sensor 19.
- the label sensor 19 preferably has a barcode scanner which detects a barcode located on the label 7, in particular a barcode printed on it.
- the check of the completion criterion includes the comparison of the detected barcode with a barcode specification for the package 3.
- the barcode scanner can have a sensor control for this purpose which decodes the detected barcode.
- the barcode specification can hereby be at least part of the decoded information contained in the captured barcode. Through the comparison, the captured barcode, and thus the application of the label, can be classified as correct. It can also be determined that the barcode is readable, but does not match the barcode specification or has a different format. The barcode can also be classified as unreadable. Preferably, the labeling process is only taken into account in the counter information if the barcode is classified as correct.
- the label sensor 19 can be designed as a camera or the like.
- the result of the labeling process can be determined using the label sensor 19, in particular via image data.
- the completion criterion relates to printing of the label 7 by the printer arrangement 9, in particular the occurrence of printing errors and/or an alignment of the generated print image.
- Fig. 2a shows an example of an optimally printed and applied label 7 on a package 3.
- Fig. 2b shows a label 7 which is optimally applied but partially printed incorrectly.
- area 20 a printing error is shown, which is caused here by an incorrectly controlled pixel that is blackened throughout.
- area 21 a missing pixel can be seen, so that part of the printed image is missing here.
- the alignment of the printed image particularly affects the accuracy of centering the printed image on the surface of the label 7, which can also be recognized using image data.
- the completion criterion can relate to the orientation of the applied label 7 on the package 3, which is indicated in Fig. 2c).
- the orientation of the applied label 7 here relates to the intended placement of the label 7 within a predetermined area of the package 3.
- the orientation can also relate to a rotation of the label 7 to a predetermined angular position.
- the results of labeling processes shown in Fig. 2b) and c) can lead to a failure to meet the completion criterion, for example detected by operating values of the barcode scanner or the camera, so that the corresponding corresponding labeling processes are not taken into account in the counter information. Accordingly, the counter information only contains the labels 7 according to Fig. 2a) that have been applied and printed in accordance with a specification shown via the completion criterion.
- the completion criterion can relate to the adhesion of the label 7 to the package 3 and/or the absence of a label 7.
- the label sensor 19 is used to detect only partial adhesion, for example due to an insufficient adhesive surface, or a label 7 that has been applied in a bent manner.
- the absence of the label 7 can also be detected in a simple manner via the label sensor 19, for example the barcode scanner.
- the printer arrangement 9 has a printer sensor 22 which detects operating values of the printer arrangement 9 when printing the label 7, and that the completion criterion relates to the operating values of the printer arrangement 9.
- the printer arrangement 9 is set up for thermal printing, whereby the label 7 is changed in color, in particular blackened, by the localized heat effect at the location of the heat effect.
- the localized heat effect is caused by one or more rows of heating resistors arranged in the thermal strip of the thermal head.
- the heating resistors can be monitored for functionality using the printer sensor 22. If there is a deviation in the electrical resistance value of a heating resistor, it can be concluded that the respective pixel (dot) has failed.
- the printer arrangement 9 can have a counter-pressure element, in particular in the form of a stationary bar or rotatable roller, with an insertion gap being formed between the thermal bar and the counter-pressure element.
- Position values of the counter-pressure element which are determined, for example, via a position sensor, can be monitored and compared in particular with a dimension of the insertion gap specified for the respective label type.
- Further information on the respective labeling processes can be assigned to the counter information, for example the time at which the respective labeling process was carried out.
- the assigned information can also be formed by operating values and/or by variables derived from the operating values.
- a labeling process type in particular based on a label type of the applied label 7 and/or a print type of the printing of the label 7, is assigned to the respective labeling process on the basis of a predetermined assignment rule and is stored in particular for counter information.
- the label type for example, is used to differentiate between labels 7 of different formats, thicknesses, materials, and the like.
- the print type for example, is used to categorize the printing of the label 7, for example according to the respective print image, a proportion of blackened pixels in the total area of the print image, or the like.
- quality measurement values recorded by at least one sensor, in particular at least one of the aforementioned sensors 15, of the labeling device 2 in relation to the labeling process are checked for fulfillment of a predetermined quality criterion and that information about the fulfillment and/or the degree of fulfillment of the quality criterion is assigned to the labeling process, preferably that the information about the fulfillment and/or the degree of fulfillment of the quality criterion is stored as counter information.
- the quality criterion can be used to further classify the labeling process.
- the quality criterion can relate to one or more actions of the labeling process, for example the degree of agreement of the generated print image with a print image template and the accuracy of the alignment of the label 7 on the respective package 3.
- the quality criterion allows for further analysis and documentation of all the labeling processes carried out in a labeling routine.
- price information of a labeling routine is determined and assigned to the respective labeling process, preferably that the price information is stored for the meter information.
- the costs specified for a particular label type are stored in the calculation rule. It is also conceivable that the price information assigned to a labeling process depends on the quality criterion.
- the counter information is stored in a production control system of the labeling system 1 (not shown here), or that the counter information is stored in the control arrangement 4 and transmitted to the production control system, in particular with the associated labeling process type, the associated degree of fulfillment of the quality criterion and/or the associated price information.
- the production control system can be part of a production control system which serves to combine data from various labeling devices 2.
- the production control system is in particular superior to the control arrangements 4 of several labeling devices 2.
- the production control system is implemented via a cloud which has at least one cloud server.
- a labeling system 1 is proposed with a labeling device 2, wherein the labeling device 2 is designed to be controlled in a labeling routine for labeling, in particular for price labeling, individual packages 3 by means of a control arrangement 4 of the labeling device 2 in order to apply a label 7 to a respective package 3 in a labeling process, wherein the labeling device 2 has: a weighing arrangement 5 for determining weight values of the respective package 3, a dispensing arrangement 6 for dispensing a label 7, a printer arrangement 9 for printing the label 7 depending on the weight weight values and an application arrangement 13 for applying the label 7 dispensed by the dispensing arrangement 6 to the respective package 3.
- the labeling system 1 is set up to check the operating parameters recorded during a respective labeling process to see whether a specified end criterion representing a successful labeling process is met and to store the occurrence of a met end criterion in a counter information. Reference can be made to all explanations of the proposed procedure.
