Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and a device for producing a container wrapped with a web material as outer packaging according to the preambles of claims 1 and 9.
- the production of containers from a single container with an outer packaging that fixes the containers in a defined position relative to each other is well known.
- a group of containers is wrapped, for example, on at least four sides, with a web material such as paper or shrink film.
- the film then shrinks, so that the containers are held firmly together by the web material.
- the film overhangs on the sides also fold over to the ends of the container, creating a shrink eye. This can lead to wrinkling in the area of the ends, which the end customer may interpret as a quality defect.
- the shrinking process often causes the film cutouts on the front and back of the container—i.e., on the main surfaces—to become distorted or wrinkled. Especially when using printed films, this often renders the printed designs illegible.
- the invention is therefore based on the objective of providing a method and a device that enable an improvement in the packaging image, particularly in the case of a maximally closed shrink eye or a folding package, a distortion-free motif on a container and a minimization of creasing in the area of the end faces of the container.
- the device for producing a container wrapped with a web material comprises at least one container transport device which transports the container through a folding and/or wrapping device, wherein the folding and/or wrapping device includes a wrapping element guided above and below around the at least one container transport device for receiving the web blank and for wrapping the container with the web blank, and for transporting the web material and the web blank, a material transport device is provided with a first transport section which extends from a dispenser for the web material to a designated contact area of the folding and/or wrapping element with a material blank and is provided with a subsequent second transport section which connects to the first transport section and extends to the end of the container transport device, and a cutting station designed for cutting a web material to form the web blank with a transport device arranged upstream thereto for transporting and feeding web blanks onto the transport level on and above a transport plane formed by the container transport device, wherein in the In the transport section, an adhesive application device is arranged, designed to apply adhesive to the inside of the web blank and along the longitudinal edges of the
- the core of the device is an adhesive application unit that can be easily integrated into an existing folding and/or folding machine. Surprisingly, this is achieved by an adhesive application unit that applies the adhesive to the web material or web blank, rather than to the container. This allows for an arrangement of the adhesive application unit that utilizes the installation space of the folding and/or folding machine particularly effectively.
- the adhesive is applied by the adhesive device in such a way that the web blank is bonded to the end faces of the container being wrapped, particularly the corner containers.
- This fixes the web blank before the shrinking process largely preventing distortion of the web blank and thus also, for example, distortion of a design printed on the web blank.
- the film of the web blank is designed as shrink film. After wrapping, the container is conveyed by the container transport device to a discharge conveyor and transported to a device for shrinking the web blank.
- the discharge transport device, the container transport device and also a transport device that feeds a container onto the container transport device are designed, for example, as standard conveyor belts from the beverage industry, whereas the film transport device can include, for example, vacuum tables.
- Containers within the meaning of the invention are, for example, bottles, cans, and tubes, each made of metal, glass, and/or plastic, in particular PET bottles, but also other packaging materials, especially those suitable for filling liquid or viscous products.
- Beverage containers in particular, can be understood as containers.
- a package is formed by a group of interconnected containers. The containers of the package are arranged in a nesting or non-nesting position.
- the term "pack" can refer not only to a group of containers in which the containers are already connected to one another, but also to a group of containers whose containers are assembled but not yet connected and which are to be connected to one another only by wrapping them in film.
- the folding and/or wrapping device comprises a wrapping element that receives the film blank coming from the first transport section, slides along the outside of the film blank, and overtakes the container during transport on the container transport device, thereby aligning the film blank with its inner side against the container.
- the film blank coming from the transport device can be placed with one leading edge on the container transport device, and the container can be positioned on the inside of the film blank in the area of the leading edge.
- the wrapping element emerges from below the container transport device after the container group has been set up on its front edge. It then adheres to the outside of the film blank, guides the film blank around the container, and re-enters the transport device at the end. Once the wrapping is complete, the container can be set up on the rear edge of the film blank, opposite its front edge. After wrapping, the container is transported to a shrinking device, such as a shrink tunnel.
- a shrinking device such as a shrink tunnel.
- the container is therefore transported on the container transport device with its front facing forward, while the wrapping of the container occurs from the rear, wrapping around the container.
- the wrapping element can, for example, be designed as a surrounding rod element.
- Cutting stations are also common. On these stations, shrink film, supplied as roll material, is unwound and cut into film blanks. The film blanks are then transported on the conveyor device, which – as already mentioned – can include, for example, a vacuum table, to the transport level of the container transport device. There, one leading edge of the film blank is picked up by the wrapping element.
- the leading edge is the edge positioned at the front of the film transport device during transport in the conveying direction, while the trailing edge is the edge of the film blank opposite the leading edge. Both the leading and trailing edges are oriented transversely in the conveying direction.
- the longitudinal side edges are the lateral longitudinal edges oriented in the conveying direction, i.e., the side edges extending from the leading edge to the trailing edge.
- the longitudinal side edges are understood to be, in particular, a region of the film blank that extends inwards from the actual outer edge of the film (the film blank) by, for example, several centimeters to the opposite side edge and, when wrapped, rests against the end face of the container.
- the end face of the container is understood to be the lateral surface of the container where the shrink hole is created.
- the adhesion of the film blank to the containers of the package takes place in the region of the end faces of the container, i.e., in the region of the open longitudinal side edges of the folded-over film blank.
- the bonding is achieved particularly with the corner containers of the package.
- Folded-in longitudinal edges of the film preferably neither butt against each other nor overlap, so that the front of the containers is at least partially film-free, and the shrink hole is formed.
- the track material is a paper or cardboard blank
- the above applies analogously, but in particular no shrink tunnel is required.
- the folding and folding device can include suitable tensioning and/or clamping elements to tighten or clamp a paper or cardboard blank placed over, around or on a container group, at least in one spatial direction, ideally in two spatial directions, once or several times.
- Adhesives or bonding agents within the meaning of the invention can be any materials or masses with which an adhesive bond can be created between the film and the containers of the packaging or between two sections of the film.
- the adhesives or bonding agents are from the group of hot melt or melt adhesives.
- the conveying direction is the transport direction of the web material or web blank, starting from the dispenser unit to the container completely enclosed in a web blank.
- the transport level can be understood as the plane formed by the container transport device, on which the containers are transported by the container transport device.
- the containers may stand upright on the container transport device, e.g., a container transport table, a conveyor belt, or similar.
- the contact area is the area along the conveyor path where the folding and/or wrapping element comes into contact with the web blank.
- the first transport section comprises a partial section which extends in the conveying direction from the cutting station to the end of the transport section, wherein the adhesive application device is arranged in the area of the partial section, in particular below the transport level of the containers.
- the first section of the route therefore also includes, in particular, the first transport device for feeding the film blanks onto the transport level on and above the transport level formed by the container transport device.
- the adhesive application device is particularly preferably arranged in the area of the first transport device.
- This device can, in particular, be located within part of the first transport section and thus vertically below the transport plane of the containers. This makes it particularly easy to apply the adhesive to the inside and the longitudinal edges of the web blank.
- the adhesive may also be applied to the inside of the (not yet cut) web material (film, paper, cardboard, etc.) if, for example, the web material has already been unwound from a dispenser roll with a first section, but the cutting to produce the web blank has not yet taken place. Therefore, the application of the adhesive to the web section can also be understood to mean application to the web material that has not yet been cut but will be cut shortly thereafter.
- the adhesive is applied to the web blank in the area of the material transport device.
- the device for applying the adhesive is designed in the end region of the first transport device and before the web blank is fed onto the container transport device.
- the end region of the first transport device is specifically defined as the last third of the first transport device.
- transport device refers to, for example, a vacuum table, or the transition area between the end of the first transport device and the container transport device. This ensures that the adhesive is applied to the web material or web blank only shortly before the container is wrapped, thus preventing, for example, adhesive failures.
- the adhesive application device is suitable for applying adhesives belonging to the group of hot melt or melt adhesives.
- Application is contactless, using application nozzles or spray heads.
- one application nozzle or spray head is provided per application point, so that these do not need to be moved or swiveled during operation of the system.
- An application nozzle or spray head can apply adhesive to the conveyed web material or a web blank, either in a series of spots or in a line.
- the application nozzles or spray heads are connected to and supplied by known, associated storage containers, heating devices, pumps, etc.
- At least one adhesive application head of the adhesive applicator is movable transversely to the conveying direction of the web blank.
- the adhesive application head is thus movable between the longitudinal edges of the web blank, so that adhesive can be applied to both longitudinal edge regions using a single adhesive application head.
- Adhesive can also be applied to areas of the web blank between the longitudinal edges using the movable adhesive application head, so that, for example, additional bonding of the web blanks to each other or of the web blanks to the containers of the packaging can be achieved.
- the adhesive application device preferably has at least two adhesive heads arranged on opposite sides of the first transport device. This allows the adhesive to be applied to both longitudinal edges of the web blank without the need for time-consuming movement of the adhesive head. The time required to move the adhesive heads back and forth is eliminated.
- both adhesive heads can be mounted to move transversely to the transport direction, allowing for particularly fast application of adhesive even to areas of the web blank located outside the longitudinal side edges.
- further adhesive heads such as a third or fourth, can also be arranged.
- the cutting station can be arranged vertically below the transport level of the container (container transport device, feed transport device), so that the web blank for wrapping the container is guided onto the container transport device from below.
- the adhesive application device can be arranged vertically below the container transport device, as already described.
- the adhesive application device can also be offset horizontally to the container transport device and, for example, arranged directly below a feed transport device that transfers the container to the container transport device.
- a further development of the invention provides for a pressure element (stripping element) that moves any excess material along its longitudinal edges against the end faces of the container after wrapping.
- the pressure element exerts pressure against the excess material present in the end face area, and thus also against the adhesive-coated longitudinal edges of the web blank, thereby moving the excess material around the corner containers of the container and pressing the protruding material of the web blank against the end face of the container. Because the adhesive on the longitudinal edges comes into contact with the containers of the container, especially the corner containers, the web blank, e.g., the film blank, bonds to the containers.
- the pressure element can also be designed as a stripping element.
- rollers or brushes are used as pressure or rubbing elements, over which the container is guided.
- Guide can refer to both passive movement and active movement of the container towards the pressure element, or vice versa.
- multiple pressure elements, or pressure elements on both sides of the container can be used.
- a method for producing a container wrapped with a web blank comprising the following steps: transporting the web blank on a first transport device of a film transport device from a cutting station to a transport level formed on and above the container transport device; wrapping a container transported on the container transport device, wherein the web blank is captured by a wrapping element and moved around the container during transport; wherein, during transport of the web blank in the area of the first transport device, an adhesive is applied to the web blank in the area of the inner surface and in the area of the longitudinal side edges of the web blank; and the The long side edges of the web blank are glued to the end faces of the package after wrapping.
- Applying the adhesive to the web blank instead of the containers allows for a particularly space-saving arrangement of the adhesive application device.
- This allows the adhesive application device to be integrated into the existing installation space of the folding and/or wrapping device.
- the adhesive bonding secures the open ends of the web blank to the end faces of the container before the shrinking process, preventing distortion of the web blank on the front and back due to shrinkage. This is especially important for web blanks printed with a design, as it prevents distortion of the design. Additionally, the bonding results in the formation of a largely closed shrink eye with the smallest possible amount of film, thus largely preventing wrinkling.
- a further development of the invention provides that a pressure element moves the film overhang of the wrapped container with its longitudinal edges against the end faces of the container. This causes the film overhang to be applied around the corner containers of the container against the end faces of the container, and the adhesive applied to the longitudinal edges is bonded to the containers, especially the corner containers of the container.
- the web blank used is preferably printed, for example with a manufacturer's design. Due to the improved shrinkage pattern resulting from the bonding of the web blank before shrinking, the packages can be produced as band-free packages, which is particularly advantageous. This means that no band with a corresponding design needs to be placed under the film, as it is printed directly onto the web blank.
- the adhesive to be applied as adhesive dots. This means that the web blank is bonded to the containers only at these dots and not, for example, in the form of adhesive strips or large-area bonds. This allows for particularly precise control of the shrinkage behavior of the web blank during the shrinking process.
- At least two adhesive points are applied to each longitudinal edge of the web blank, spaced apart from one another on both the front and back sides. That is, the adhesive points are applied spaced apart from each other in the direction of the longitudinal edges.
- the distance between two adhesive points on a longitudinal edge can, for example, correspond at least to the height (in the vertical direction) of the printed motif, thereby achieving particularly good pre-fixation of the printed area of the web blank.
- further sections of the web blank can be provided with an adhesive to bond it to the end faces of the container.
- an adhesive is applied to the front edge and/or the rear edge of the web blank to bond the web blank to the container bottoms or to bond the front and rear edges of the web blank together.
- the adhesive is preferably applied as a spot adhesive.
- a sprayable and/or flowable adhesive is used, in particular an adhesive from the group of hot melt or melt adhesives. Besides bonding the web blank, this further simplifies opening the container, i.e., removing the web blank from the container by the consumer.
- a device as described above is especially preferred.
- Figure 1 schematically shows a device 1 for encasing a container 2 made of containers 3 (see Figure 2 ) with a foil cutout 15, here a shrink film, on which motifs 28 are printed.
- the device comprises a folding and/or wrapping device 5 with a container transport device 6 and a covering element 7 designed as a rod element, which moves on a track 8 around the container transport device 6 and the containers 2 transported on it.
- container 2 also refers to a group of containers that are only to be combined into a single container 2 with the film blank 15.
- the device 1 further comprises a feed transport device 9 for feeding a container 2 onto the container transport device 6 and a discharge transport device 11 for receiving the container 2, which is wrapped in the film blank 15, and for further transport in a shrink-wrapping device (not shown here).
- the direction of travel LR of the container 2 is indicated by an arrow. The container 2 is transported with the front 22 facing forward.
- Part of the device 1 is also a film transport device with a first transport section T1, which leads from a film dispenser unit (not shown here) to a transport level TE formed by the container transport device 6.
- a second transport section T2 connects to the first transport section T1 and extends to the end of the container transport device 6.
- a cutting station 12 is arranged, into which the film 4 coming from the dispenser unit enters and where it is cut into film blanks 15, as well as a first section T1.1 of the first transport section TE.
- the first section T1.1 extends from the film cutting device 12 in the conveying direction LRF of the film blank 15 towards the transport level TE.
- Part of section T1.1 is a first transport device 13, which accordingly connects upstream, i.e., in the conveying direction of the film blank, to the cutting station 12 and leads to the transport level TE.
- the cutting station 12 with the first transport device 13 and the adhesive application device 14 is offset in the horizontal direction H (shown by an arrow) to the container transport device 6, directly below the feed transport device 9.
- the application of the adhesive 17 to the longitudinal side edges 29 (see Figure 4
- the application of the adhesive to the film blank 15 is carried out by means of the adhesive application device 14.
- This device has two adhesive heads (not shown here), each arranged such that it applies spaced-apart adhesive dots 19 to the inside 18 of the film blank 15, specifically to the longitudinal side edges 29.
- the application of the adhesive dots 19 takes place in the end region 20 of the first transport device 13.
- only one adhesive head (not shown here) can be arranged, which, for instance, can be moved transversely to the conveying direction LRF.
- both adhesive heads can also be arranged to be movable transversely to the conveying direction.
- a film blank 15 is produced by the cutting station 12 and picked up by the first transport device 13, which here is designed as a vacuum table, and transported to the container transport device 6, i.e., here onto the transport level TE formed by the container transport device. During transport, the film blank 15 is guided past the adhesive application device 14.
- the adhesive heads in the end region 20 of the first transport device 13 apply adhesive, here as adhesive points 19, to the longitudinal side edges 29 of the film blank 15.
- a sprayable and/or flowable material can be used as the adhesive, in particular a hot melt or heat-activated adhesive.
- a container 2, brought in by the feed transport device 9, is positioned on a leading edge 16 of the film blank 15.
- the encasement element 7, designed as a rod element emerges from below (in the vertical direction) of the container transport device 6, between the container transport device 6 and the feed transport device 9, and carries the film blank 15 with it. It rests against an outer surface 21.
- the encasement element 7 has a significantly higher speed than the container transport device 6, so that it slides along the outer surface 21 of the film blank 15 and wraps it around the container 2.
- the encasement element 7 re-enters the vertically downwards, i.e., also below the transport plane TE, between the container transport device 6 and the discharge transport device 11.
- Container 2 then moves onto the trailing edge 30 of the film blank 15.
- the front 22, back 23, and top and bottom 24, 25 of container 2 are thus covered by the foil cutout 15.
- Container 2 is therefore wrapped on all four sides and has a lateral foil overhang (not shown here) extending beyond the end faces 26, on which the adhesive centers 19 are located.
- the excess film is then pressed against the end faces 26 of the container 2 by a pressure element (not shown here) or a coating element (not shown here), so that the adhesive centers 19 are adhered to the end faces 26 of the container 2, i.e., to the corner containers 3a of the container 2.
- the film 4 is then shrunk in a shrinking device.
- Figure 2a and Figure 2b Figure 1 shows a container 2 with individual containers 3, which, according to the prior art, is wrapped or encased in a foil blank 15.
- the foil blank 15 has already shrunk, resulting in a shrinkage eye 27 on the front face 26.
- a motif 28 applied to the front face 22 is distorted due to the shrinkage of the foil material.
- Figure 3a Figure 1 schematically shows a first embodiment of a container 2 produced according to the method and on the device, with a glued shrink film blank 15, in an end-face view.
- the adhesive points 19 were applied spaced apart from each other, so that two spaced-apart adhesive points 19 are arranged on each longitudinal side edge 29 facing the front and the rear, fixing the shrink film blank 15 to the end face 26.
- Figure 3b shows in a front view the container 2 from Figure 3a
- the adhesive points 19 are also shown. However, these are located on the end face 26 of the container 2. Due to the foil cutout 15 being glued to the end faces 26, the motif 28 no longer exhibits any distortion.
- Figure 3c Figure 1 also schematically shows an alternative embodiment of the container 2 in a front view, in which the foil blank 15 is bonded to each longitudinal side edge 29 on both the front 22 and the back 23 with only one adhesive point 19 on the end face 26. Again, the adhesive points 19 are shown in the front view for clarity only; they are actually located on the end face 26.
- Figure 4 Figure 1 schematically shows in a view an unwound foil cutout 15 of a shrink film for wrapping a container 2 with marked areas for the adhesive centers 19, motifs 28 and the later position of the containers 3 in the foil cutout 15.
- the foil cutout 15 has two motifs 28, which, when wrapped, are positioned on the front 22 and back 23 of the container 2. Adhesive center points 19 are placed on both long side edges 29. Two adhesive center points 19 are provided for each motif 28 on each long side edge 29.
- the four adhesive centers 19 around a motif 28 are arranged at an equal distance from the motif 28, thus preventing even slight distortions of the motif 28.
- two adhesive points 19 are provided in the area of the front edge 16.
- adhesive points 19 can also be provided, for example, on the rear edge 30 opposite the front edge 16, in order to bond the rear edge 30 to the front edge 16.
- the adhesive application device 14 is ideally suited for applying adhesives belonging to the group of hot melt or melt adhesives.
- at least two adhesive heads are provided, arranged on opposite sides of the first transport device 13.
- Associated devices for applying a hot melt or melt adhesive such as hoppers, heating elements, pumps, etc., are not shown here.
