- Electrostimulation also termed electrostimulation or ES
- electrotherapy is a well-known technology, which has been used in treatment of a large number of pathologies - when used for medical treatment, ES is often termed electrotherapy.
- ES involves the transfer of electric current through an applied surface electrode pad that is in electrolytic contact with the external skin surface and the area to receive the effect.
- at least two electrodes (a lead and a discharge electrode) are required to complete the electric circuit.
- ES has been used as a therapeutic means in a number of conditions, notably in the treatment of various types of wounds, such as acute wounds, burns, chronic wounds including pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, and arterial ulcers.
- microcurrent can deliver an electrical current to muscles and skin cells.
- This microcurrent builds up muscles in the face and/or lifts and tightens the skin tissue.
- the establishment of a microcurrent also facilitates delivery of active compounds commonly used for beauty treatments into the lower layers of the skin, whereby their beneficial effects are enhanced.
- the present invention relates to a method for cosmetic treatment of a surface area of the skin of a human subject, the method comprising projection of ionized gas molecules onto the area of the skin so as to establish an electric current, which is driven by the projection of the ionized gas molecules, in or over the area of the skin, wherein the human subject optionally has at least one discharge electrode attached to an area of the body remote from the surface area of the skin so as to sustain the electric current.
- the present invention relates to ionized gas molecules for use in a method of treatment of an area of the skin of a human, the method being selected from redness relief, sensitivity relief, acne reduction, sun damage and/or photo damage prevention or repair, anti-inflammatory treatment of skin, treatment to ameliorate effects of laser treatment, treatment to ameliorate effects of cryolipolysis, and reduction in scar and pigmentation post-surgery, wherein the method comprises that ionized gas molecules are projected onto the area of the skin so as to establish an electric current, which is driven by the projection of the ionized gas molecules, in or over the area of the skin, wherein the human subject optionally has at least one discharge electrode attached to an area of the body remote from the surface area of the skin so as to sustain the electric current.
- the present invention relates to a method for therapeutic treatment of a surface area of the skin of a human subject by topic application on the skin of an active drug substance or composition comprising said substance, the method comprising projection of ionized gas molecules onto the area of the skin so as to establish an electric current, which is driven by the projection of the ionized gas molecules, in or over the area of the skin, wherein the human subject optionally has at least one discharge electrode attached to an area of the body remote from the surface area of the skin so as to sustain the electric current, and wherein the projection of the ionized gas molecules enhances the uptake and/or the therapeutic effect of the administered active drug substance or composition.

- Projection of ionized gas molecules means that a sufficient amount of electrical charge in the form of electrically charged gas molecules is provided a surface area on the skin, so as to allow an electric current to be established between the surface area to surrounding tissue. It should be emphasized that the electric current, which passes from the surface area to the surrounding tissue cannot be established precisely - when discussing this electrical current in quantitative terms in the present application, the quantity (measured in Ampere or micro Ampere) is the one which may be measured in discharge electrode(s), which return(s) current from the treated human to the device that delivers the ionized gas molecules.
- Ionized gas molecules broadly refers to gas molecules which carry a net electrical charge. Typical examples are negatively charged oxygen molecules and positively charged Nitrogen molecules because of the abundancy of oxygen and nitrogen in atmospheric air, but any gas molecule capable of carrying a net charge is useful in the practice of the present invention, as long as such ionized ga molecules do not provide unacceptable adverse or toxic effects on the human subjects treated.
- a “discharge electrode” is an electrode attached to a treated subject which ensures that the ionized gas molecules do not simply build up a static charge in the subject but instead establishes an electrical current which passes through the subject to the discharge electrode.
- Such an electrode will be in the form of a strap, but any convenient physical form may be useful.
- a special example of a discharge electrode is a "return electrode", which is connected (optionally via a control unit) to the device which supplies the ionized gas ions - this enables that a return current may be measured (cf. above) and this in turn enables full control over the current sent through the treated subject as a consequence of the delivery of the ionized gas molecules.
- a "gas ion transmitting device” is a device or apparatus, which is capable of generating a stream, jet or flux of ionized gas molecules having a net electrical positive or negative charge and where the direction of the stream, jet or flux may optionally may be controlled with respect to dosage, intensity and direction.
