Una disposición para evitar pérdidas de petróleo de un petrolero o buque cisterna en el caso de que se origine un orificio en el fondo por medio del cual el espacio de carga del petrolero está dividido en cierto número de depósitos, en dirección horizontal, con ayuda de mamparos verticales, caracterizado porque al menos parte de los depósitos están divididos, en dirección vertical, en grupos separados por medio de al menos un fondo intermedio que está situado de manera que la presión estática del petróleo, al menos en el grupo más inferior de depósitos, permanece menor que la presión estática originada por el agua del mar exterior del barco, en el mismo nivel.
