Abstract

A pincer device for the removal of engines from scrap vehicles comprises a support frame (3), which is attachable to and operated by the jib of a crane or other lifting equipment, a pair of pincer jaws (1) hingedly mounted on the frame (3) and a pair of struts (8) displaceably mounted on the frame (3). In use, the device is manoeuvred into position so that the jaws (1) can seize the engine, the device is raised to lift the front end of the vehicle, and then the struts (8) are displaced downwardly to push the vehicle down and thereby remove the engine, held by the pincer jaws (1), from the vehicle. The jaws (1) and struts (8) are respectively operated by hydraulic or pneumatic rams (6) and (9).
