Abstract
A magnesium based material as obtd. by dispersing particulate CaO in molten Mg and solidifying the product. Pref. the material is then crushed far injection into molten ferrous metal as a refining agent. The magnesium may be heated above 651dg.C in an enete atm. while up to 55 wt% of CaO is cooled to ppte Mg2Ca. - There is also claimed a particulate material for injection which contains a minor propn of a particulate a metal and a minor propn. of an inorganic particulate reagent. The former may be Mg or Al or alloys of then, and the inorganic material may be CaO, CaCz, MgO, CaAl2O4, AlzO3 or mixt. of these.
