Abstract

Very long iron strips (11) supported on top of each other to form a stack (10) in a magazine are removed one at a time from the bottom of the stack and cut into lengths. The mechanism (8) which removes the bottom strip, uses hydraulic piston and cylinder devices supported by a frame (9) behind the stack. In front of the stack are relatively narrow vertical stop plates (13), spaced apart in the direction of advance. Underneath the stack are horizontal supporting bars (18) also spaced apart in the direction of advance, at right angles to the strip material, and having convex top surfaces. Each bar passes through a guiding sleeve (19) attached to a cross member (20) travelling on rollers (21).
