The propelling device consists of a power driven continuous belt (15) mounted on pulleys (12,13,14) carried on a framework (11). The outer surface of the belt has a number of transverse fins (20) fastened to it and driven by a motor (19). - The device is fixed to the vessel so that the lower portion of the belt is immersed at it's forward end and the intermediate pulley (13) acts to hold the belt submerged. The rear pulley (14) is mounted substantially clear of the water and various fin types could be used.
