Abstract
A process for the preparation of quaternary ammonium salts of organosilicon derivatives. Comprises one or a number of the following operations: (a) causing 3-(trimethoxyxylyl)propylchloride to react with N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylene diamine to yield Quat 1 (b) reacting Quat 1 with chloromethyl acetate or with benzyl chloride to yield Quat 2 and Quat 3 respectively (c) reacting a diamine of formula 15 with (i) methyl chloroacetate to yield Quat 4, or with (ii) benzyl chloride to yield Quat 5, which is optionally caused to react with more benzyl chloride to yield Quat 6, or with (iii) isopropyl 6-chlorohexanoate to yield Quat 7, or with (iv) n-pentyl chloride to yield Quat 8 (d) causing a compound 11 to react with (i) isopropyl 6- chlorohexanoate to yield Quat 9 or with (ii) n-pentyl chloride to yield Quat 10. These compounds are useful as agents against micro- organisms.
