Abstract
Process for obtaining N-carboxymethylglycine and its salts of formula I. Comprises subjecting the compound of formula II to acid or basic hydrolysis followed by corresponding alkalinisation or acidification. The compound of formula I has application as a sequestering agent and as a starting material for the synthesis of glyfosate herbicide.
