EL NIVEL DE LA SUPERFICIE DE UN BAÑO DE METAL FUNDIDO DEBAJO DE UNA CAPA DE ESCORIA FLUIDA EN UN RECIPIENTE METALURGICO SE MIDE MEDIANTE UN DETECTOR QUE SE MUEVE A TRAVES DE LA CAPA DE ESCORIA EN EL BAÑO METALICO Y LUEGO SE EXTRAE. PARA MEJORAR LA EXACTITUD Y PARA EVITAR LA NECESIDAD DE UNA MEDIDA SEPARADA, EL DETECTOR USADO CONTIENE UN SENSOR DE CONCENTRACION DE OXIGENO, QUE EMITE SEÑALES QUE INDICAN EL LIMITE ENTRE EL METAL FUNDIDO Y LA ESCORIA, CON LO QUE SE DETERMINA LA ALTURA DE DICHO LIMITE.
