Abstract
Improvements introduced in the subject of the main patent no. 202,872 by a process for the oxidative transformation of p-xylol into terephthalic acid derivatives with elemental oxygen or gases containing oxygen at an increased temperature, possibly under pressure and advantageously in the presence of separation and esterification catalysts. Of the formed acid mixture containing essential amounts of toluyl acid conveniently with methanol further oxidation of the esters with elemental oxygen or oxygen containing gases and separation of the formed terephthalic acid monoester characterized in that the acid mixture formed with the oxidation of xylol and/or respectively the monoester of terephthalic acid formed in the oxidation of esters are continuously removed from the oxidation mixture and the composition of the mixture to be oxidized is kept approximately constant by virtue of the return of the separated oxidate portions liberated from the mixture.
