SE DESCRIBE UN METODO PARA LA PRODUCCION DE TITANIA DIGERIBLE EN ACIDO. EL METODO COMPRENDE LOS PASOS DE: (1) ADICION DE MAGNESIO O UN COMPUESTO DE MAGNESIO A UN MINERAL DE TITANIO SI EL CONTENIDO DE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO EN EL MINERAL ES INSUFICIENTE; (2) CALENTAMIENTO DEL MINERAL EN PRESENCIA DE UN REDUCTOR, DURANTE EL TIEMPO SUFICIENTE Y A TEMPERATURA SUFICIENTE, PARA PERMITIR LA REDUCCION DE LOS COMPUESTOS QUE CONTIENEN HIERRO A HIERRO METALICO Y PERMITIR A LA TITANIA PRESENTE CONVERTIRSE EN UNA FORMA DIGERIBLE POR UN ACIDO; (3) ENFRIAMIENTO DEL MINERAL; Y (4) SEPARACION DEL HIERRO DEL MINERAL POR MEDIO DE UNA AIREACION ACUOSA. EL MINERAL DE TITANIO CONTIENE INSUFICIENTE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO SI NO SE SATISFACE LA SIGUIENTE EXPRESION: 1.98A + 1.14/D > 0.08, DONDE A REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE MGO CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL, (B) REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE MNO CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL Y (D) REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE TIO SUB 2 CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL. EL COMPUESTO DE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO ES BIEN UN OXIDO O UN COMPUESTO QUE ES CAPAZ DE CONVERTIRSE A UN OXIDO BAJO LAS CONDICIONES DE LA REACCION.
