SE DESCRIBE UN METODO PARA LA PRODUCCION DE TITANIA DIGERIBLE EN ACIDO. EL METODO COMPRENDE LOS PASOS DE: (1) ADICION DE MAGNESIO O UN COMPUESTO DE MAGNESIO A UN MINERAL DE TITANIO SI EL CONTENIDO DE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO EN EL MINERAL ES INSUFICIENTE; (2) CALENTAMIENTO DEL MINERAL EN PRESENCIA DE UN REDUCTOR, DURANTE EL TIEMPO SUFICIENTE Y A TEMPERATURA SUFICIENTE, PARA PERMITIR LA REDUCCION DE LOS COMPUESTOS QUE CONTIENEN HIERRO A HIERRO METALICO Y PERMITIR A LA TITANIA PRESENTE CONVERTIRSE EN UNA FORMA DIGERIBLE POR UN ACIDO; (3) ENFRIAMIENTO DEL MINERAL; Y (4) SEPARACION DEL HIERRO DEL MINERAL POR MEDIO DE UNA AIREACION ACUOSA. EL MINERAL DE TITANIO CONTIENE INSUFICIENTE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO SI NO SE SATISFACE LA SIGUIENTE EXPRESION: 1.98A + 1.14/D > 0.08, DONDE A REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE MGO CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL, (B) REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE MNO CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL Y (D) REPRESENTA EL PORCENTAJE EN PESO DE TIO SUB 2 CONTENIDO EN EL MINERAL. EL COMPUESTO DE MAGNESIO O MANGANESO ES BIEN UN OXIDO O UN COMPUESTO QUE ES CAPAZ DE CONVERTIRSE A UN OXIDO BAJO LAS CONDICIONES DE LA REACCION. UNA TECNICA DE AIREACION ACUOSA DESCRITA EN LA ESPECIFICACION IMPLICA EL USO DE UN INHIBIDOR QUE ES CAPAZ DE INHIBIR EL HIERRO DEL MINERAL SIN BAJAR SIGNIFICATIVAMENTE EL PH LOCAL MIENTRAS QUE AL MISMO TIEMPO PERMITE LA FORMACION DE UN OXIDO DE HIERRO EN UN PUNTO FUERA DEL MINERAL.
