EN UN CONMUTADOR DIGITAL OPTICO QUE ESTA BASADO EN EL PRINCIPIO DE SELECTIVIDAD DE MODO, HECHO DE UNA SECCION PASIVA (A) CONTENIENDO UNA PRIMERA GUIA DE ONDA OPTICA (1) Y UNA SEGUNDA GUIA DE ONDA OPTICA (2) Y UNA SECCION DE CONMUTACION (B) CONTENIENDO UNA TERCERA GUIA DE ONDA OPTICA (3) Y UNA CUARTA GUIA DE ONDA OPTICA (4), SE CONSIGUEN LA ASIMETRIA REQUERIDA Y LA CONDUCCION DE LAS GUIAS DE ONDA OPTICA DENTRO O FUERA DE LA ZONA DE INTERACCION DE CADA UNA, CON LA AYUDA DE CURVAS (K SUB 1, K SUB 2) EN DICHAS GUIAS DE ONDA OPTICA. DICHA ASIMETRIA ES CONMUTABLE EN LA SECCION DE CONMUTACION (B). SE HACE USO DEL EFECTO EN QUE RESULTA UNA CURVA, EN GENERAL, EN UNA REDUCCION DE LA CONSTANTE DE PROPAGACION EN LA GUIA DE ONDA OPTICA. LAS CURVAS APROPIADAS SON DE FORMA DE ARCO CIRCULAR Y SINUSOIDALES. LA SECCION DE CONMUTACION (B) PUEDE INCORPORAR ADEMAS UNA SECCION INTERMEDIA CORTA (S-U) EN LA CUAL LAS GUIAS DE ONDA OPTICA (12, 13) CIRCULAN RECTAS EN UN ANGULO PEQUEÑO MUTUO ((FI)) EN EL CASO DE QUE LA ASIMETRIA CONMUTABLE SEA EN PRINCIPIO DEMASIADO PEQUEÑA CON UNA ELECCION PARTICULAR DE MATERIAL.
