Abstract

To detect feeding of a document at any point across the paper transfer passage in a printer, spaced optical means 2, 3 e.g. prisms or fibre loops (see fig. 3), are provided on opposite surfaces of the paper transfer passage to reflect light from emitter U1 several times across the paper transfer passage before it impinges detector Q1. Two multiply-reflected parallel beams may be arranged to detect skewly inserted documents at any point across the paper transfer passage.
