Abstract

The invention relates to the use of lactoferrin for preserving the mechanical properties of hair, and in particular its tensile strength and its elasticity, from degradation by atmospheric aggression, and in particular by light. The lactoferrin is used for this purpose in an amount of between 0.05 and 5% by weight, in a cosmetically acceptable carrier, and preferably in the form of a combination with 8-hydroxyxanthine and 2-thioxanthine, in proportions of 0.2 to 2% of lactoferrin, 0.01 to 0.1% of 8-hydroxyxanthine and 0.01 to 0.3% of 2-thioxanthine, optionally combined with 0.01 to 5% of an enzyme superoxide dismutase.
