EL PUPILOMETRO CENTRADOR TIENE POR OBJETO FIJAR UN SISTEMA DE REFERENCIA Y DETERMINAR LAS DISTANCIAS EN LAS QUE PODER EMPLAZAR CON LA PRECISION ADECUADA LOS DIFERENTES TIPOS DE LENTES QUE SE PUEDEN AJUSTAR EN UNA MONTURA OPTICA CUALQUIERA. SU EMPLEO ESTA ESPECIALMENTE INDICADO PARA LOS CASOS DE EMPLAZAMIENTO DE LENTES BIFOCALES TRIFOCALES, PROGRESIVAS Y ASFERICAS. EL DISPOSITIVO CONSTA DE UN PLANO HORIZONTAL (H), QUE COINCIDE CON EL DE MIRADA DE LA PERSONA SOBRE LA QUE SE VAN A REALIZAR LAS MEDIDAS (1), QUE A SU VEZ FIJA SU MIRADA SOBRE UN PUNTO LUMINOSO (2). LAS MEDIDAS SE REALIZAN EN EL PLANO DE MEDIDA (F) SITUADO TANGENTE A LA MONTURA MEDIANTE LA VISUALIZACION DESDE EL VISOR (3) DE LOS PUNTOS CARDINALES A MEDIR. ASI MISMO, DESDE DICHO VISOR SE COMPRUEBA LA HORIZONTALIDAD DEL SISTEMA GRACIAS A UN NIVEL (4).
