Solvent for agents or neutralising agents known per se for the environmentally acceptable, efficient mass deacidification of books and other paper articles in the form of methylsiloxanes having at least two and at most four silicon atoms as a replacement for hitherto used solvents, polluting the environment, such as fluorochlorocarbons, these special organosiloxanes being equally suitable as solvents and also for use in proposed efficient processes and preserving the paper articles unchanged as far as possible.
