Abstract
A combined set that includes an intrauterine contraceptive device and an inserter therefor, comprising: a) an intrauterine contraceptive device that includes an elongated central stem and a pair of elastic wings extending outward at each end thereof, collapsible or crushing to alignment with the shank; b) an elongate tube positioned in a uterine cervix and having an internal passage at one end thereof to receive the folded contraceptive device; c) an elongate rod movable back and forth in the tube, having one end intended to be applied to the contraceptive device in a folded linear fashion to eject the device and an opposite end projecting from the tube for manual access; d) a pair of opposed openings on opposite sides of the tube, adjacent said first end thereof to receive a pair of elastic wings at one end of said rod, which extend outwards in a loose or loose state, while the elastic wings from the opposite end of the stem extend outward from said first end of the tube, so that the contraceptive device can be stored in the loosened state; e) a cord that connects the contraceptive device and said first end of the rod, said tube being elastic material and having an opening therein separated from said rod, positionable in said opening to maintain the rod in a position in which the rope prevents complete removal of the contraceptive device from the tube, whereby said device can be pulled out towards said first end of the tube, to align the first mentioned pair of elastic wings, the device being rotated 90º to misalign the cited pair of wings with respect to the openings, after which said rod can be moved out of the tube to drive said device into the tube in order to align all the wings and position the device for insertion into the uterus.
