SI LA ROTURA SE PRODUCE DENTRO DE UN CILINDRO HERMETICAMENTE CERRADO, LA EMISION DE VAPORES DE MERCURIO ESTA CONTROLADA Y PUEDE IMPEDIRSE MEDIANTE LA ADSORCION DE ESTOS VAPORES EN UNA TORRE DE ADSORCION RELLENA DE PLATA METALICA QUE AMALGAMA EL MERCURIO. UNA VEZ SATURADA, ESTA PLATA SE TRATA EN UN DESTILADOR DE MERCURIO CON LO QUE SE RECUPERA EL MERCURIO CON UNA PUREZA DEL 99% Y LA PLATA PUEDE SER REUTILIZADA INDEFINIDAMENTE. UNOS FILTROS DE CARBON ACTIVO A LA SALIDA DE LA TORRE DE ADSORCION EVITAN LA POSIBLE EMISION DE MERCURIO EN EL CASO QUE EL ADSORBENTE DEJE DE CUMPLIR SU FUNCION POR SATURACION. EL PROCESO CONSIGUE RECICLAR TODOS LOS COMPONENTES DE ESTOS TUBOS Y LAMPARAS SIN GENERAR OTROS SUBPRODUCTOS QUE PUDIERAN CONSIDERARSE COMO RESIDUOS.PROCEDURE FOR THE RECYCLING OF TUBES AND FLUORESCENT LAMPS WITH RECOVERY AND INERTIZATION OF ALL ITS COMPONENTS. THE ELIMINATION OF FLUORESCENT TUBES AND LAMPS CONSTITUTES AN EVER MORE IMPORTANT PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN MERCURY VAPORS INSIDE THEM THAT MAY BE EMITTED TO THE ATMOSPHERE JUST FOR BREAKING THESE TUBES. IF THE BREAKAGE OCCURS WITHIN A HERMETICALLY CLOSED CYLINDER, THE EMISSION OF MERCURY VAPORS IS CONTROLLED AND CAN BE PREVENTED BY THE ADSORPTION OF THESE VAPORS IN A METALLIC SILVER FILLED ADSORPTION TOWER WHICH AMALGAMATES MERCURY. ONCE SATURATED, THIS SILVER IS TREATED IN A MERCURY DISTILLER WITH WHICH THE MERCURY IS RECOVERED WITH A PURITY OF 99% AND THE SILVER CAN BE INDEPENDENTLY REUSED. ACTIVE CARBON FILTERS AT THE EXIT OF THE ADSORPTION TOWER AVOID THE POSSIBLE EMISSION OF MERCURY IN THE EVENT THAT THE ADSORBENT FAILS TO FULFILL ITS FUNCTION DUE TO SATURATION. THE METALLIC REMAINS, FLUORESCENT POWDERS AND THE GLASS THAT COMPOSE THE FLUORESCENT TUBES MAY BE RECOVERED BY SIMULTANEOUS CRUSHING AND SCREENING OPERATIONS. THE PROCESS IS ABLE TO RECYCLE ALL THE COMPONENTS OF THESE TUBES AND LAMPS WITHOUT GENERATING OTHER BY-PRODUCTS WHICH MAY BE CONSIDERED AS WASTE.
