UN METODO PARA LA PRODUCCION DE XILITOL A PARTIR DE D-GLUCOSA, DFRUCTOSA, D-GALACTOSA O DE MEZCLAS DE LAS MISMAS, QUE SE CARACTERIZA PORQUE CONSISTE EN LOS PASOS SIGUIENTES: A) OXIDAR EL MATERIAL INICIAL PARA FORMAR UN INTERMEDIO QUE CONSISTA PRINCIPALMENTE EN ACIDO L-XILONICO, ACIDO D-ARABINONICO, ACIDO D-LIXONICO O UNA MEZCLA DE AL MENOS DOS DE DICHOS ACIDOS, CON LO QUE DICHOS ACIDOS SON LIBRES O SE PRESENTAN COMO SUS SALES, LACTONAS O DERIVADOS DE O-FORMILO; B) TRATAR DICHO INTERMEDIO CON UN CATALIZADOR DE HIDROGENACION Y UN GAS DE HIDROGENO EN UNO O VARIOS PASOS PARA OBTENER UN PRODUCTO QUE CONSISTA PRINCIPALMENTE EN XILITOL O UNA MEZCLA DE XILITOL, ARABINITOL O RIBITOL; C) Y, EN CASO NECESARIO, SEPARAR EL XILITOL DE DICHO PRODUCTO Y, SI DICHO PRODUCTO CONSISTE PRINCIPALMENTE EN DICHA MEZCLA DE PENTITOLES, REALIMENTAR LAS FRACCIONES DE ARABINITOL Y RIBITOL AL PASO DE REACCION PRECEDENTE B).
