COMO CONSECUENCIA DE LA SENSIBILIDAD TRANSVERSAL OBSERVADA A OTROS GASES DE REDUCCION, LA SELECTIVIDAD DE ESTE TIPO DE SENSOR NO ES PARTICULARMENTE ALTA PARA EL METANO. EL OBJETIVO DE LA INVENCION ES AMPLIAR EL CAMPO DE APLICACIONES DE LOS SENSORES DE GAS DE OXIDO METALICO DE ESTE TIPO HASTA AHORA CONOCIDO. EL OBJETIVO SE CONSIGUE EN VIRTUD DEL HECHO DE QUE A TEMPERATURAS DENTRO DEL RANGO DESDE 700 HASTA 850 EMICONDUCTOR, SENSITIVOS DE OXIGENO, TALES COMO GA2O3 SON EXTREMADAMENTE SENSITIVOS AL METANO, Y NO SE OBSERVA SENSIBILIDAD TRANSVERSAL SIGNIFICANTE A OTROS GASES DE REDUCCION TALES COMO HIDROGENO O MONOXIDO DE CARBONO. ADICIONALMENTE UNA ALTA CONCENTRACION DE VAPOR DE AGUA EN EL AIRE NO TIENE EFECTO SOBRE LA CONDUCTIVIDAD DE ESTOS OXIDOS METALICOS. DENTRO DEL CAMPO DE TEMPERATURAS ESTABLECIDO, LOS SENSORES GA2O3, TIO2, FEO3, CEO3, SRTIO3, NB2O3 O HFO2 PUEDEN SER UTILIZADOS POR TANTO COMO DETECTORES DE METANO ALTAMENTE SELECTIVOS.
