LA BALSA TIENE UNA CUBIERTA DE UN FILME TRANSPARENTE TERMICO E HIDROFILO (3), DE POLIETILENO DE BAJA DENSIDAD, QUE SE MANTIENE EN POSICION MEDIANTE UN SISTEMA DE INFLADO A BAJA PRESION O CON ESTRUCTURAS SIMPLES. LOS BORDES DEL FILME SE UNEN A UNOS CANALES (9), PARA LA RECOGIDA DEL AGUA DESALADA, QUE SE DRENA POR LA TUBERIA (11). EL DESALADOR TIENE UNA ENTRADA DE AGUA DE MAR (4), CON SISTEMA AUTOMATICO DE NIVEL CONSTANTE, SALIDA DE SALMUERA (5) Y TUBO DE REBOSAMIENTO (6). CON LOS FILMES DE POLIETILENO EXISTENTES SE PUEDEN CONSTRUIR DESALADORES SOLARES DE 1.000 M2 O MAS, DE UNA SOLA PIEZA, SIN UNIONES NI EMPALMES. EL AGUA DE LA BALSA SE CALIENTA POR LA ENERGIA SOLAR, SE EVAPORA Y CONDENSA EN LA CARA INTERIOR DE (3), ESCURRIENDO HASTA LOS CANALES (9) QUE LA CONDUCEN A TRAVES DE LA TUBERIA(11) A LOS DEPOSITOS DE ALMACENAMIENTO. EL AGUA DESALADA SE REPONE CON AGUA DE MAR HASTA QUE LA CONCENTRACION DE SALES ALCANCE APROXIMADAMENTE EL 25%. ENTONCES SE VACIA LA SALMUERA DE LA BALSA Y SE INICIA UN NUEVO CICLO.
