EL PROCEDIMIENTO SE APROVECHA MEDIANTE UN DISPOSITIVO QUE UTILIZA FOTOTRANSISTORES PARA LA DETECCION DE LA INTENSIDAD DE LA LUZ AMBIENTAL Y DE LA REFLEJADA POR EL OJO. NO EXISTE CONTACTO FISICO DIRECTO ENTRE NINGUNA PARTE DEL DISPOSITIVO Y EL OJO. EL DISPOSITIVO ES UTILIZADO PARA QUE UN ENFERMO CON UNA DISCAPACIDAD MOTORA SEVERA, POR EJEMPLO UN AFECTADO DE ESCLEROSIS LATERAL AMIOTROFICA, PUEDA COMUNICARSE CON UN ORDENADOR. EL DISPOSITIVO SUSTITUYE A LOS INTERRUPTORES MECANICOS UTILIZADOS EN CASOS DE DISCAPACIDAD MENOS SEVERA.
