Abstract
It includes (i) oily carrier excipients between 50 and 70%, (ii) gelling agents of between 1 and 4%, and (iii) iron methionate of between 30 and 80%, in such a way that the composition has between 50 and 100 mg of Fe/ml and a viscosity of between 500 and 1,500 cps. It also includes (iv) preservatives of between 0.2 and 0.6%, and (v) aromas between of 0.3 and 0.5%. The procedure involves adding oily excipients (i) into a suitable reactor adding gelling agents (ii) while stirring heating until the above mixture melts completely, stirring slowly leaving to cool until a transparent gel forms at ambient temperature, adding iron methionate with vigorous stirring until the product is homogenized and passing through a refiner until a suitable texture is obtained. Use of the composition by the oral route to prevent the appearance of iron deficiency anaemia.
