Abstract

Automatic system for reverse engineering in CAD environments and the objective evaluation of the colour. The system which is the subject of the present invention makes it possible (i) to measure the geometric and chromatic information of parts, (ii) to construct a geometric representation thereof suitable for being input and handled efficiently in computer-aided design (CAD) environments and, in the case of homogeneous parts, (iii) to quantify their chromatic behaviour objectively. The functioning of the invention is entirely automatic the operator's role is reduced to locating the parts on the measurements platform, to defining the sequence of positions to be investigated and to running the various processes in the desired order (either directly or via a master process). Basically, the system comprises one or more image- acquisition devices 8, 9, the appropriate image digitising and storage equipment 2, 3, a positioning system 11, 12, 13, 14 with the corresponding control equipment 5 for controlled movement of the parts 10, a structured light projector 6, a projector of light which does not need to be structured 7, and computing equipment 1 equipped with the software necessary for the operation of the system 4. The physical location of all these components is arbitrary.
