EL COMPUESTO POLIMERICO ESTERIFICADO SE FORMA HACIENDO REACCIONAR DICHO POLIMERO POLIHIDROXILICO CON UN COMPUESTO DE ALQUENO SUSTITUIDO EN POSICIONES 1,2, EL CUAL TIENE AL MENOS UN GRUPO DE ACIDO CARBOXILICO.
